@@artscraftsgaming7169 Let's take a look at the situation a bit. Growing up under the same roof is not necessarily about being brothers. This is confirmed by the fact that Kaeya in relation to Diluc uses the term elder sworn brother which means best friends and people sworn to protect each other. This already does not mean brothers in the a priori because these are two completely different things, if he considered him a brother he would call him that. Such a favorite thing as “Kaeya is adopted” - there really isn’t much evidence for this, it was all spelled out too vaguely and now I’ll explain why ... buut I can't say 100%.. I tried to deal with this particular thing for a very long time. According to native speakers, Kaeya called Crepus his adoptive father (or just father) only once. When like all other times he again used "sworn", that is, the sworn father (that is, guardian). The Chinese decided to explain this by saying that Kaeya simply understood that this person raised him or something like that, so such a thing slipped through. (in the last Dain`s quest Kaeya called Crepus exactly "sworn" and in Venti's story he did not say "our father" but "your father" in relation to Diluc). Kaeya is still Alberich not Ragnwindr (just a note that if he were Ragnwindr everything would be immediately clear). What else can I say about the "wrong translation" .. it turns out they are not going to fix it because ... this is localization. like..LMAO. Thx very cool localization due to which the fd was divided into two parts. Bruh. In conclusion I can say that the fact that Kaeya considers him to be a "brother" is a hc, and if you see people ship them don't even try to convince them you are unlikely to succeed because they have their own reasons and beliefs. Well, personally, I’ve always judged my kins by how similar my background/personality is to them. So, for example, Kaeya is estranged from his brother, and so am I. He also feels a lot of guilt over the past, and so do I. So, while I can sympathize and understand the way other characters are written, I find that I relate to Kaeya’s character on a different level. That’s how I’ve always judged it, hope this helps.

Varka's inner circle is preparing to investigate Eroch and his henchmen, and it's looking increasingly likely that Eroch is about to get unseated from that high horse of his. You might not be too pleased to see this letter of mine, but I mean to get this news to you as soon as possible. You don't have to reply. Letter 2 To D: Even I was a little surprised to hear that you'd decided to leave on a trip. Jean wanted to write and try to dissuade you, but I advised her against it. As for Varka, I don't think he knows that about this. Otherwise, he'd have probably sat you down for a talk. If you'd like to leave, do it now. The less the people know, the less the goodbyes you'll have to say. Leave at night, too, so things won't be too saddening. Take care. Letter 3 To D: Some slightly bad news. Eroch won't be quite so difficult to bring down after all. The Grand Master's order to investigate has certainly dealt him a major blow, but I wouldn't call the problem "pulled up by the roots" yet. The matter's been handed over to Jean's jurisdiction. She'll take care of this, I believe. Eroch is an obstacle in her path, in any case. Just sit tight and wait for the good news. Letter 4 To D: Recently, a group of businessmen returned to Mondstadt. Word is that the reason for their return is a downturn in business. According to my observations, their employees are regulars at Angel's Share. These people can also be found out in the more dangerous parts of the wilds around the city. Now, a few of them were a little careless and even dropped some pages of their notes on the ground. I took the liberty of returning these sheets to the Angel's Share. You know, out of the goodness of my heart. I think they might have something to do with you, seeing as how they were there. I also noticed that their notes were written in code. Information brokers, perhaps? Or some kind of secret organization?Whatever the case, it took quite a lot of effort to see those blurred words with only one eye, you know? Don't worry, I'll keep this a secret. Letter 5 To D: I didn't try to hide it from you on purpose, you know. But I suppose you found out all the same, huh? I mean, not everyone who wears an eyepatch must be blind, right? Don't people also wear an eyepatch if they have a scar over their right eye? The long-awaited good news is finally here. Now, I'm going to bring a glass of wine when I go to watch Eroch pack his things and leave on his last day (good riddance, by the way). That should be fun, eh? I know you're not the type to do that sort of thing, but I am, so allow me. Letter 6 To D: Oh, my! No sooner did you get back than a mysterious character started popping up. I hear he's called the Darknight Hero. He has repeatedly fought off Treasure Hoarders and monsters in the Mondstadt area - and he's even attacked Abyss Order strongholds. So far, it seems like he is on Mondstadt's side, but the Knights of Favonius could never permit the existence of a vigilante. I get the feeling that the two of you would get along nicely. Why don't you find an opportunity to get to know him and give him some sage advice? You know, just so he doesn't get caught by the Knights?

Letter 7 To D: Per standard procedure, the Knights of Favonius needs to take a statement from all relevant parties. Recently, the Knights of Favonius have received reports from a number of eye-witnesses claiming to have seen the Darknight Hero in the vicinity of the Dawn Winery. The Grand Master has assigned the Cavalry Company to this mission. As such, I will be paying you a visit in three days. He seems to think that our relationship can be improved if we are forced to talk in person. Don't worry, though. My lips are sealed. This will be nothing more than a formality. Anyway, three days' notice should be enough for you, I presume? Letter 8 To D: The appearance of the Darknight Hero has indeed bought the Knights of Favonius some valuable time during the Abyss Order's last attack. This helped Jean convince the Knights of Favonius to stop focusing on trying to stop him. This will decrease the limits on the Darknight Hero's actions, but this doesn't mean that his situation will necessarily improve. Objects with too honed an edge tend to be damaged more easily. You, I'm sure, are aware of the great dangers that come with acting alone. That said, I would advise against such a course of action. Letter 9 To D: I heard that the Dawn Winery did not suffer any damage. Likewise, the Knights of Favonius only sustained minor injuries, and will recover quickly. However, an employee of a local merchant has gone missing, and their last known location just so happens to align with the Abyss Order's area of activity. The Knights have dispatched people to go to the rescue. Do be aware that the Abyss Order has become more dangerous as of late, even going so far as to organize multi-pronged offensives. Perhaps the Darknight Hero and the Knights of Favonius should team up. That might guarantee that things will go off without a hitch, hmm?

And then there's the letters on the brick wall of the knights of Favonius Headquarters rooftop "Hah! To think that all that play-acting as a one-eyed pirate would eventually end with one actual wounded eye. I have never blamed Diluc for that. I suppose I must have been asking for it, telling him the truth the day my adoptive father died without expecting conflict to emerge somehow. He seems to believe that I really was blinded, though that's not the case. Well, I've fooled him for a while, haven't I? Might as well keep going." Two letters lie beneath the bag, all of which have "D" as their sender. The letters are in great condition, and there is a time written on the back. This is most likely the time these letters were received. Letter 1 To K: Messaged received. Thank you. Also, I suggest that you stop mentioning eyes in your letters. Don't think that I don't know that your right eye wasn't blinded. Letter 2 To K: Thanks for the letter. Cooperating with the Knights has objective pros and cons, like two sides of a coin. I'm sure you understand that better than I do. No need to worry about my safety. Self-preservation is easy. Striving towards my goal is hard. Take better care of yourself instead. A small paper bag lies next to these two letters. It contains nothing but a few seashells. They have lost most of their luster. It is unclear how much time has passed since they were picked up.

Don’t be like that.” The Cavalry Captain’s lip juts out, a reflection of the signature little-brother pout he did as a kid. “Where’s that smile I used to know so well?” Diluc ignores him, picking up one of the already-cleaned plates and rubbing it vigorously in an attempt to not make conversation. No, we can’t go back, he tells himself. There is no Luc and Kae. There has never been a Luc and Kae. It’s just a disgraceful mess of a bartender, and a traitor. Kaeya keeps talking. “Now now, Master Diluc, what’s gotten into you?” he seems to be enjoying himself, getting drunk on the Death After Noon clasped in his hand. His eye gleams, with a sharp edge to it, and his crooked smile is reminiscent of a faded memory that Diluc carries with him. Diluc rubs the plate harder, like scrubbing it will erase his memories. “Luc, answer meeeee.” Kaeya pitches his voice. “Don’t be like this.” “Go away.” mumbles Diluc. He can feel a headache coming on. Kaeya annoys him, and he glares. This ritual, nine on the dot, every day. Except today it’s different. Diluc closes up at twelve tonight. He starts shooing the drunken sods out of his tavern. Venti slumps out, still a drunken mess sobbing over his dead friends, while Rosaria chugs another bottle, sober as ever. Eula walks out, swaying a little, and the rest are either vomiting or complaining about their stomachs. Kaeya doesn’t move. “We’re closed.” Diluc snaps. Kaeya’s busy with yet another bottle. So many drinks and so much money gone to waste. He’s a drunken mess yet again. “Ah.” Kaeya murmurs, his eyelid fluttering. “Death After Noon…” The redhead glances at his ex-brother. Bloodshot eyes and a hunched form that seems drunker than ever has been. “Get out.” he grouses, unimpressed. “Or I’ll…I’ll-“ He curses himself silently. He’s not good with threats. “Or you’ll what?” Kaeya replies, taking another swig of his drink. “Kick me out like you did last time?” “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Diluc glares colder. Colder, like maybe if he infused his gaze with ice, he would be able to make himself immune to his devious ex-brother’s harsh truths, truths amongst a sea of lies that he’s told. Kaeya keeps drinking, until he’s mumbling halfheartedly, insults spilling from his mouth, but there’s little joy found in annoying Diluc now. He’s just...drunk. “Go home, idiot.” snips Diluc bitterly. “I’m not going to put up with this stupidity today.” Kaeya’s clouded eye stares back up at him. For the Cavalry Captain, his vision is blurred. He can’t see anything apart from the darkened bar lights and a flash of red. “Crepus.” he mutters. Diluc swings his head up. Fury floods his veins. How dare Kaeya say his father’s name like that. How dare he. But for Kaeya, all he sees is a shadow that reminds him of a similar redhead with a gentle smile. Crepus Ragnvindr. “You’re Crepus.” Kaeya slurs. “I’m finally dead.” Diluc frowns. “Wake up, stupid.” he snaps. “Wake up before I really do toss you out.” “Crepus,” Kaeya reaches out to tug on that lock of red hair. He’s so drunk to the point he can’t see or think straight. “I did something horrible.” “Kaeya, you’re drunk.” Diluc snatches away his hair. “Leave the tavern and go disrespect Father somewhere else.” But neither heaven nor earth can shake the knight’s will. And so Kaeya stays. “Can’t call you Dad anymore. You’re going to hate me.” Kaeya laughs sadly. “Luc needs you, though. Hasn’t smiled since the day you left.” “Kaeya, this is ridiculous.” Diluc might as well start fuming now. Kaeya thinks that he’s Crepus. Him, the bad-tempered Darknight Hero who can’t hold himself together most of the time. “I was born wrong.” the blue-haired knight hiccups, and takes another swig. “Thought I could make myself right, but you can’t change a wrong person. Least Luc doesn’t have to see me anymore. Too much alcohol. Didn’t think I-“ he stops and coughs- “didn’t think I could die from that, but here I am.” Diluc wrinkles his forehead. Is this what Kaeya thinks? That he was born wrong? The words that leave Kaeya’s mouth the next are the most horrifying. “I’ve long accepted,” he confesses, “that I have no family left. And rightfully so, too.” Diluc puts on his best Crepus voice and talks to Kaeya. “No brother?” he says. “No,” replies Kaeya, with wine-stained lips. “No, Crepus. He is gone too, I know it.” Diluc falls silent. He calms himself down, picking Kaeya up and elbowing open the tavern door awkwardly. Thank goodness no one’s out at this hour. He’s had Kaeya’s address memorized, for fear that the idiot may run into some sort of trouble. Unceremoniously, he stabs open the window (he doesn’t have a key) with the burning claymore, and crawls into the house in an even more awkward position. There, he sets down Kaeya on the couch, and takes off his jacket, wiping a drop of sweat from his forehead. It’s quite stuffy in there. “Crepus,” he hears Kaeya murmur, “sorry for all the trouble I caused your son.” Not “my brother”. Not “Luc”. But “your son”. Kaeya’s long since dealt with the burning loss that occurred on Diluc’s eighteenth birthday. And what of Diluc? He’s not gotten over it yet. He never will. Can he go back? No, no he can’t. “Tell me a story, Crepus.” Kaeya whispers sleepily. Diluc stares at his drunken red face, and sighs. “Fine.” So he begins. “On a dark and stormy night, in a city far from here, there was a knock on the door of a house.” “Mm, continue.” “The owner of the house found a young boy there, all alone in the cold. He adopted him. Then the boy grew up with the owner’s son in the city, and they were best friends. They did everything together. Collected seashells, celebrated Christmas, went to each other in the night when they felt scared. Then they had an argument the day the father died. And th-they-“ Diluc hesitates. He knows how the story ended. But he doesn’t want that ending. “The owner’s son was selfish and shouted at the adopted boy. But then he apologized. And they reconciled. The end.” Kaeya mumbles, “that’s a stupid story.” “Is it?” says Diluc, wryly. “It’s unrealistic.” “Which bit?” “The reconciliation.” “Oh.” Kaeya yawns. “Crepus, you’re not very good with stories.” “Sorry.” Diluc shifts uncomfortably. They sit in silence. Diluc’s stomach feels hollow. He’s far too late. After the barrage of snippy little insults exchanged, a night in the rain, doors slammed in his little brother’s face, he knows that there’s no way they can go back. He’s done too much. Kaeya had betrayed his trust. But Diluc had ruined everything else. Kaeya had pulled the first nail off the shelf. Diluc had hacked the rest to pieces. Diluc gets up. Runs a hand through his ex-brother’s hair once, almost gently. Then his face hardens, and he leaves the way he came. Walking in the twilight alone to the Winery, sober and stone-cold like he always is. Only when he reaches the Winery does he realize he’s forgotten his jacket at Kaeya’s place. “No,” he decides, and his words seem to have double meaning, “I can’t go back.” - They don’t talk about this. They never do. The ritual at 9 continues. Diluc harbors his guilt and serves drinks. Kaeya keeps the jacket he found at his place, with a vague memory of what happened. Perhaps it was Crepus- Diluc would never have been so nice to him. Diluc would have left him on the steps of the tavern like a homeless person and then let him wake up with a headache. But the jacket is surely Master Diluc’s… He brushes it away. It doesn’t matter. They’re not brothers anymore. He’s dealt with it. He doesn’t mind. And even if he did, well… “We can’t go back.” he thinks to himself with a sigh, before downing yet another glass of Death After Noon. “No use thinking about it anyway.” - thanks for reading a bored ao3 writer’s 3 am headcanons apologies if this is out of character
