In the 1840’s, Irish immigrants who joined the US army eventually joined Mexico in the war against the US. Mexican Holiday - Patrick’s Battalion. They are known as The San Patricios (St.Patrick’s) and are considered heroes. Some Irish soldiers ended up staying in Mexico after the war.. It’s why we have red heads in Mexico. Canelo is not the first.….. just like we have blacks because some slaves also escaped and joined Mexico to fight in that same war… If anything, those soldiers became Mexicans by association.
