For people uninformed, Canelo was supposed to fight champ Paul Williams but he was in a motorcycle accident that ended his career, so they lined up Victor Ortiz as a replacement but he suffered an upset loss to Lopez which is why he ended up filling the slot. Canelo would face Trout in a unification in his next fight. He's been fighting top fighters from early on but somehow uniformed haters complain about it.

Whatever you can say about Lopez, he had courage, bravery and a warrior’s heart. He took took on a bigger, much harder puncher and didn’t have the power to gain Canelo’s respect. Lopez absorbed a lot of punishment and kept getting off the canvass and throwing punches. My hat’s off to this guy. The referee made a good stoppage. Sometimes carefree a referee has to save a fighter from his bravery.

yeah, i always thought pacquiao should be at 135 or 140 but he's 5'6 at 147...every fight he's been in since 2009 he's been the naturally smaller man by a weight class or 2, so i always said if he was 5'9 and a natural 147 no on would stand a chance. canelo is the same in he's 5'8/5'9 and fighting at 168! he's fighting 6 foot even guys haha

Poor Lopez, he didnt have any quit in him but you could see the helpless frustration in his eyes. No loss to be ashamed of, Lopez showed what a warrior he is, all respect due 👍

It blows my mind how Canelo has so many haters. That’s something I will never understand. Canelo Alvarez is one of the greatest boxers to ever step foot in the ring, period. He is destroying A+ boxers that are bigger than him! What he has been doing in the last dozen or so bouts is just record shattering stuff.

This fight is memorable to me because Chavez jr fought maravilla the same night every Mexican in the world that I reached out to or even knew that night chose to watch Chavez jr and didn’t even know canelo years later all those Chavez fans claim they are real canelo fans but the truth is they were all haters that were made believers ……
