The air tag does work in India. Because air tags need nearby apple devices for sending signals. But in India there aren't sufficient apple devices for the air tag network. And Android devices can track nearby air tag too. There is an apple app in the Play Store for air tag.

You hav half or incomplete knowledge. Samsung has already launched airtag much before Apple did but never hyped the way Apple did. They have released even 2nd gen devices. There is nothing that android users can't enjoy.
