The 2023 US Open main draw runs from August 28 - September 10 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 143rd time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Last year, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Poland's Iga Swiatek claimed the men's and women's singles titles. It was both players' first US Open title, with Alcaraz winning his first Grand Slam title and Swiatek winning her third Grand Slam title. This year, at the US Open, we’re set for another historic tournament as the world’s best tennis players head to New York. Well. Medvedev is already 27 on his way to 28 and he has only won one slam in his career and has a losing h2h against Alcaraz, Nadal, Djokovic, etc. He has been world number 1 for just 16 weeks while Carlos has been for 36 already. So in essence he hasn’t accomplished half of what Alcaraz has and Carlos is just 20. We’ll see if he wins a second slam and defeats Djoko like he once did in 2021 but this time might be tougher.

This notion that whenever a player wins that they've put the other player in their place or that they taught the other player a lesson, is getting pretty old and tiresome. Nobody put anybody in their place nor did they teach any lessons. The better player won on that given day and that's the end of it. It is quite disrespectful to say such things of the pro players. All of them put a lot of effort and work their tails off to be in these late stages of grand slams. Just respect all players for showing up and being there.

I am a fan of medvedev but I wish the better for both of them. The better player on that day will win the trophy.

I was afraid of Novak and Danil meeting because Danil is hard to beat when he is in his game mode, but on the other hand he is also my second favorite player after Novak, I like his modesty, originality and most of all his sharp intelligence.

@@allyc1919Medvedev is one of the best Hard court players by far. Probably the best one right now after Djokovic. Unfortunately for him, his game doesn’t really translate to clay or grass as much as it does for Alcaraz for instance.

@@vitogirardi7477 i’ve always been a fan of medvedev, but this is just not right. i wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that people dislike him because he’s russian, at least in the us. he isn’t a people-pleaser and has admitted he’s playing for his friends/family over anyone else. he can be blunt and harsh a lot of the time. i agree that people would probably be more content with him if they listened to him off the court where he’s surprisingly articulate, but a lot of people don’t watch interviews. they watch matches and matches only.

I think Novak's strategy will be to play a lot to the backhand side, to use a variety of shots, to play aggressively and to attack the second serve at every opportunity.

Daniil’s ability to turn defense into offense, his disciplined tennis, his commitment to every ball showed in this match against Carlos. What an amazing display of grit and determination. He just needs to get better with his serve, he had 10 double faults to Carlos’s none. Congrats and wish you the best for the finals.

That's Medvedev style. Any kind of adjustments concerning that second serve makes him worse. He hits his second serve most times as hard as the first. He does it occasionally. If u check his second serve statistics, all below 100km, he lost almost all of the points cos they r weak as ****. So right from time he usually gets more double faults than the big opponents cos he attempts a big 2nd serve unlike others...

@ParekhitB Medvedev only relied on his serves and errors by Alcaraz to win. His second serve was aggressively returned by Alcaraz in the first two sets to lose. If he had played Medvedev second serve return as he did in 3rd set, it would have been a better contest.

@@user-os1sh4xo3g Come on now. Don't start talking like Nolecult. MOST players do their winning when they're 'at top form & younger'. Federer, Djokovic and Meddy are ALL alike in that way. Meddy's young, at his peak physically, & was in top form yesterday. As he himself said, he played 12 out of 10. Let's hope he can summon that same level for the match on Sunday. But he's not the second coming, & he's not the greatest to ever play tennis. Let him be who he is: a smart, hardworking, exceptionally talented & still-improving tennis player who is also funny & a deep thinker.

@@milenkoivanisevic5879 You can certainly accuse OP of being carried away by the moment, but in 5 seasons since 2019 Medvedev has reached 3 US Open finals, 2 Australian Open finals, and 2 ATP Finals. That’s a pretty remarkable record in such a short span, and off the top of my head very few players can match that record across 5 seasons

Both displayed a top 1 level tennis this match, but Meddy was just something else on this one. If he can keep this level into the final, I think he is gonna get his second Grand Slam this sunday.

A lesson learned for Carlos and hopefully for those who were already put him with the greatests of all time, even glorifying him as the prophet of the sport. Alcaraz is tremendously strong but he still has to prove himself for the years to come before deserving certain "titles". Great Medved, most of people took him for granted but he showed what a champion he is!

Well Alcaraz certainly has the tools to beat anyone in todays tennis. However, pushers like Medvedev, Djokovic become favorites if one goes all in on attack mode, to beat them have to be very patient and have versatile game plan, and a lot of stamina. Anyhow, joy to watch over any pusher.

Medvedev outplayed Alcaraz on the back line..All Carlos could do was dropshots and play at the net.But this is not enough..Protection.serve, Medvedev's backhand is better..In terms of physical fitness, they are the same.Daniel's mentality is top!

True. Alcaraz wasn't comfortable trading blows behind the baseline so he came to the net often specially in the 4th and it didn't work out on some very crucial moments.

Carlos lost his momentum purely because of his repeated unsuccessful drop shots. Drop shot was his weapon at Indian wells to beat Medvedev. But this time Medvedev came well prepared to deffend that. I fact overall, Medvedev played a wonderful game. He is very disciplined and gentle player.

Medvedev is having arguably his best year in 2023 with 5 titles already (includes 2 Masters) even though he has had some hiccups . Back in 2021 he won his only Grand Slam here at USO by beating Djokovic in straight sets! 2021 was the year when Djokovic won 3 of the 4 Grand Slams.
