You don't get as far as Carlos Ghosn has come without thinking outside the box, or inside the box for that matter, which is how the former Nissan executive - facing trial in Japan for financial wrongdoing - managed to skip bail and flee the country. He spoke (somewhat evasively) with correspondent Charlie D'Agata about his improbable journey.

George K ... Similar to China. If something happens involving a "foreigner" then they don't look at "right or wrong", they just look at whether you are "Chinese or foreigner" ...... If you are a "foreigner", then you are guilty by default. If a Chinese guy starts a fight with you and keeps punching you, it's foolish to punch back (even though it's in self defence), because you'll be the one rotting in custody. The Chinese guy will get a quick warning from the cops and go on his merry way, even if he started the fight and threw 28 punches at you. Meanwhile, you as the "foreigner" will be in police custody even though you didn't start the fight and only threw one punch in self defence. In those kind of situations, it's always best to just leave if possible. Leave the angry local thugs to handle their own xenophobia and anger management issues by themselves! ... I expect it's the same in Japan. If anyone tries to assault you, then don't retaliate. Pretty sure the cops will side with the Japanese guy ... Just something to bear in mind when living in any Asian country. The justice system isn't the same as in the west, so avoid trouble AT ALL COSTS!!
@goggygogg

@@realdeal7530 Thanks for the reply. Japan is better than what you described about China, but it still is generally a xenophobic country. Japanese people are generally very polite and considerate, but no matter how long you live there, you're always seen as an "outsider". About China and Chinese, I've heard very similar stories to what you wrote in your reply. Chinese people in China can be very racist, and one of my friends told me that he spent time in jail there for something very minor. If a Chinese had committed the same offense, he told me nothing would have happened. Japan, China, and Korea have problems with xenophobia - I say this based on personal experience and stories from friends.

To all viewers questioning the conviction rate. He are some numbers. You'll be surprised to learn that the conviction rates are pretty high for other countries as well. "In Canada, the national conviction rate is about 97%. This does not include cases in which the charges are dropped, which comprise about one-third of criminal cases. Absent Quebec, the province with the lowest conviction rate, the figure is 99% In England and Wales show at Crown Court the conviction rate was 80.0% and at Magistrates Court the conviction rate was 84.8% The US Department of Justice reported a 93% conviction rate. " "In Japan, the criminal justice system has a conviction rate that exceeds 99%, including guilty plea cases. This has been attributed to low prosecutorial budgets impelling understaffed prosecutors to bring only the most obviously guilty defendants to trial." Hence, victims are often discouraged from pursuing their cases by the local authorities and forced to "naki neiri" (literally means go to sleep in tears). It is true however, that most Japanese admit to and even fear the flawed judiciary system that relies on hostage tactics and confession as Ghosn has experienced. Ghosn has it right, in Japan, you are guilty until proven innocent, and most Japanese have learned to accept this and simply stay far away from trouble.

Your comment is accurate to the dot!! Impressive indeed No doubt Mr. Carlos Ghosn is a brilliant businessman. He has been an extraordinary CEO, in fact he is a legend. However, he seems forgotten that he is simply a highly paid employee, getting salaries from French and Japanese owned companies! His recent flamboyant and luxurious lifestyle is the actual cause of his downfall !! It is wise to be humble and being normal when we are at a leadership position in this sort of giant multicultural organization. We need to earn the respect and loyalty of our colleagues. We can't control hundreds of operational units worldwide ourselves, . . After so many years of respect he earned in Japan and French, he has distance himself from his colleagues who slowly became unhappy and plotting to kick him out in an embarrassing manner, even the Renault's biggest shareholder who once hailed him as a national hero, doesn't care about him anymore, ironic. The trust has been broken!! Look at Mr. Donald Trump, he is a Notorious businessman with almost zero integrity, but he owns all the shares in his privately held companies, he is a Real Boss. Hence, he can do whatever he wants with the company's money to support his flamboyant and playfull lifestyle, and obviously nothing happens to him!! . . in fact, he has step up and become the president of the most powerful country in the world!! Lesson learned!!

Japan has literally lost everything they had on the back of an absurd and fairly criminal-archaic behaviour and they have initiated the situation themselves. No human beings will look at Japanese citizens in the same way as before any longer. Their authorities have ruined their own people and culture ´s reputation. Are their leaders going to commit suicide / hara-kiri? The real question is why on earth they have done something so stupid and suicidal? Unless that this was just the historical occasion where they simply showed their true face to the world without being even self conscious of who they were. The guy has a fair skin- not the European type of course- but no one can say that he has a dark skin.. but the way they depicted him in the japanese media with all of those dark patches covering his face and neck tells you alot about their attitude towards certain nations! and for cbs to replay that in this video tells you alot about the channel!

Carlos Ghosn & his daring escape from Japan are two different stories altogether . . . wonder which is more overwhelming, his escape from an inescapable country or his achievements as an entrepreneur in the automobile industry . . . the guy saved Nissan from the brink of bankruptcy & dissolution . . . if Carlos Ghosn is actually guilty, the Japanese accusing Carlos Ghosn of financial fraud are no less corrupted . . . guilty or not, if struggling bankrupted automakers like Fiat & Saab had people like Carlos Ghosn working for them, Ford & GM would be something else . . . that's how good he is at his job . . .

The rate of case which go on trial is 63% in Japan. If police doesn't have enough evidence, persecutor won't bring the case to trial. 99% of conviction rate is due to this fact. Act of pardon is done before the trial. You people should be aware that Ghosn and this media selects information beneficial on his case and ignore un-convenient facts.

He didn't smuggle himself out in a box. The plan was created and operated by Mike Taylor. A bit difficult to run such an operation while you are put into a box. It was a brilliant plan by Mike Taylor the American Green Beret.

Japan has the worst justice system in the developed world. I'm glad his case is shedding light on this fact. I pray my cousin's case in Japan will result positively for him due to the media interest in this case. I pray for him everyday. Japan is sadistic with anyone who is charged with a crime.

Make the trial public: show the world the one-sided Japanese justice system, expose the corruption of the Japanese police. The Japanese will refuse because they know damn well how UNfair their system, one designed to expedite the process and find all persons accused GUILTY.

"I'm rich beyond belief, I have my own army and intelligence, I can escape any predicament". Is that awesome, or messed up? Japan is an insular, xenophobic country, and that could be part of the story here. Carlos should have know what he was getting into though, he is not squeaky clean.
