Cassidy Breaks Down Drake & Kendrick's Rap Styles: Drake's Got A Lot of Styles (Flashback)

Last year, Cassidy highlighted Drake's versatility as a rapper while breaking down Kendrick Lamar and Canadian rapper's rhyme styles. Cassidy pointed out that Drake doesn’t even have to rhyme words to come off smooth before placing himself into the conversation. Cassidy claimed he never rhymes just one syllable as he considers that "cheating." Later in the clip, he gave credit to other rappers, such as Fabolous, the Griselda crew, and Eminem.

As a rapper I love doing songs where I rhyme everything, have a lot of bars, and use multi syllables all the way through, but as a musician I understand using all those techniques don’t make a good song. Rap is still music at the end of the day. People coming here to escape, they ain’t coming here to solve puzzles all day, especially when life itself is a puzzle to them.

As a rapper i 100% get what he means because i remember when i started rapping ... It was hard to rhyme multi syllabically consistently but few years later i got so good at it that i even stopped writing and still rhymed with multi syllables ... Consistency is the key , the mind is like google search algorithms , the more you put a certain information in , you get recommendations quickly , so once you rhyme like " Hocus pocus, comatosed , i overdosed them on facts // loads will choke , they going ghost like they've been smoking on crack " almost every syllable rhyme .... PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

Poetry would help rappers and the hiphop listener understand lyricism. Syllabics, rhyme and near/slant rhyme, as well as assonance and alliteration form the foundation of a lyricist. The top tier excel at strong similes, metaphors, analogies, entendres and lyrical miracle wordplay, storytelling, etc Lupe and Cassidy lyrical 👑 As a Poet/writer to hear Cassidy indicate he doesn’t acknowledge near/slant rhyme is borderline 🤯 . Rhyming every syllable isn’t necessarily syllabics; to me Cassidy is describing his preference for combining syllabics and strict rhyming as a means to knit pick between whose a better lyricist is how you take away the fluidity of the word art form Y’all must remember though about KDOT from Poe Man Dreams: “I know some rappers using big words To make their similes curve My simplest shit be more pivotal I penetrate the hearts of good kids and criminals Worrisome individuals that live life critical So won't you bear witness while I bare feet So you can walk in my shoes and get to know me”

My 8 year old brother can rhyme an entire bar for hours. Bahahahaha. That bs is light work. Cas only mentions a few figurative languages like smiles, metaphors, analogies, and multi entendres,. I wonder if he knows about Pac's usage of alliteration in "If I Die 2nite"???? I wonder if he knows of AZ's usage of all that bs + hyperbole, onomatopoeia, personification, oxymoron, etc??? There is more to lyrics than how many syllables you use in a bs rhyme. He needs to study poetry like Pac. Perhaps he will then be able to finally win a rap battle in 20 years

Yeah lyricism is surely way more than syllabic rhymes, but i think he's saying making most sylables rhyme when telling a story that makes sense and while using metaphors and similes at the same time is way more difficult.. But it's true that most people in rap music have a narrow minded conception of lyricism , there are triple entendre without sylables rhymings, there are pure poetry, creative storytelling in songs like "amongst kings" by Nas or "close encounters" by jay electronica, these are crazy lyrical prowess whitout multisyllabics rhymes needed..andre 3000 is such a lyrical titan i don't know if he used that many multisyllabic rhymes..

Kdot uses multi syllables in most of his songs it should have been very easy to come up with aleast one example. What makes his raps even more interesting is his flows, he's very creative in the way he switches them and still manages to ride the beat insanely. You could never hear him using the same flow over again which ive seen many rappers do which to me seems like they run out of flows even though they would still have more words to say. With drake, most of his flows sound the same, the lyrics might be alright but over all I don't really see an mcee when I'm listening to drake. His music overall give me a good vibe but even if i hear a bar I don't get really excited because I can't tell whether he came up with that line himself knowing that he has Ghostwriters.

Whoever connects the best with the audience is the best rapper. I dont wanna think too hard when I'm vibing to a song. I want the flow to automatically resignate. When your flow too intricate it's hard to build a big fan base & sell records. Drake wins because flow is conversational (sounds like he's rapping to you) , clever, & easily connects. He is uses brevity at its best.

@NoRest4TheWicked1 11 днів тому
@@Loch1210 no sir, you misunderstand. Bars are a part of music. Music is an all the elements put together. Bars are an element of music. Focusing on one element doesn’t make good music. That’s more art, for example. A burger that’s Been made with 10 year old aged beef and Ingredient that’s cost 100 thousand each doesn’t necessarily make for the best Tasten burger. You can appreciate it for the effort and skill but you don’t want to eat it every time u have a meal. Cassidy has bars, his songs are trash. Daylyt can out bar your favorite rapper, his songs are trash. Beethoven is a genius when it comes to instrumentation and composition. Nobody wants those hear that every day.

I agree with Cassidy's analogy and explanation, although I would say if everyone wrote raps and were confined to these parameters, we may not have all these unique styles. There's a lot more that goes into rapping than just syllable patterns. There are Rhyme schemes and Rhyme Patterns too. I PEEL you with PINPOINT PRECISION----------A [2 syllable rhyme] I PICK these PEOPLE aPart -------------B then I PUT them back in POSITION -------------A [2 syllable rhyme] you could make different combinations Focused and preparing for tomorrow ------A. [3 syllables ] I ain't got no cash for you to borrow ---------A [3 syllables ] never tell me lies keep no secrets ----------B [2 syllables ] the way that you be acting know you need this --------B [2 syllables ] you can use different kinds of wordplay and rhyme patterns as well as the number of syllables. RAP is beautiful and dynamic. It's really just Rhythm and Poetry.
