Just going to say it, this kid is going to be a HOF’r. You can just see and hear the professionalism, the work ethic, the DNA/pedigree, the athleticism, the on/off field IQ, etc… the tone in his answers, he has that serious but laid back, “FAAFO” type of confidence that I like from a young big and tough lineman… just like his buddy on the other end, Slater… or even across the line in Mack. And the fact he’s a first round OL draft pick from God’s team, Notre Dame, well it just seals the deal in my mind that he’s going to have a legendary career. I do understand the beef fans have with this choice. I agree that we should not be rolling into the season with Josh Palmer (whom I think is a total stud with the potential to become a real league weapon) as our #1 WR and Quinten Johnston (2023 1st Rd Draft Pick) who’s rookie season was extremely worrisome. Herbert deserves and needs to have elite protection, and I think the last 3/4 drafts have now delivered to him amazing protection because we saw last season what a beat up and not protected Herbert looks like. We shouldn’t be risking the kids health whatsoever. But, we also deserves to have some weapons to catch the darts he chucks and so my opinion is that we do need to make some moves either through FA or by wheelin’ n’ dealin’… drafting a WR in round 1 of the NFL draft these days provide pretty good odds for having drafted your team an impact player that can / will start in the first game of the season…. Unless of course, you take QJ… that’s just chargers luck lol but I am confident his hard work this offseason is going to get him dialed in and performing. All that said, drafting a WR beyond the 2nd round (IMO) is like playing Black Jack drunk at a Native American casino that’s on the verge of bankruptcy and the tribes chief is your dealer. I love the Ladd McHonkey pick in rd2. That was a fantastic pick. BUT… Palmer, Guyton, QJ, or McCarkey… even molded together.. are not capable of providing Justin and this team a comparable replacement in terms of production that we received out of Mike Dub, Keenan, or even Austin Ekeler. This is why I think we now need to go to FA or get Jerry Maguire on the horn and start making some deals.
