Charlottesville native here, moved out west in '05 and haven't had as many chances to come back as I'd like. I've been in a lot of places and nothing compares to Cville. Not for beauty, or weather, or heritage, or people. I am homesick all the time and videos like yours help a lot when it's been too long since my last visit. I plan to move back home eventually, but it's going to be a bit longer. Two hour daily walks sound fantastic, and I would definitely be doing that if I didn't live in the desert with an hour commute to work each way. Walking around Charlottesville is pure heaven, especially in the fall right when the air starts turning crisp. Thank you for uploading!

Thank you for a walk down memory lane. Grew up on Harmon St. In the 50s had a morning paper route around JPA and Stadium Rd. So much has changed. So much is still there. Also was an usher at the Paramount when child labor laws were very relaxed and 65 cents an hour seemed like a lot!

Charles, the city certainly has changed. Stadium Rd for the most part is untouched. Thanks for watching.

I was born in Charlottesville and lived there for the first 35 years of my life. You have just shown why I will never move back. It is has changed so much that it isn’t home anymore.

Thanks for watching. Yes, UVA and Martha Jefferson have played a big role in the transformation. The city was not engineered for such a large presence.

Many thanks for the video which is very well done. I have seen other videos that suggest the downtown mall has many stores and restaurants that closed due to the pandemic, and that the mall has a growing number of homeless people hanging out and/or even sleeping there. I'd love to get your comments. Thanks!!

Nice video... I lived in Charlottesville for about15years, honestly I was never so happy to move away from anywhere as I was Charlottesville... I really didn't like it at all...moved to the Tampa Bay areas fun and Sun... I can't believe how much Charlottesville has been developed though.

Hey John, thanks for watching. I will agree, Charlottesville has definitely changed over the years from the small town vibe it once was. This is coming from a Florida fan too (Siesta Key is great). Take care!

hey! we're thinking of relocating, so we're origionally from indiana, but we moved to oregon 5 years ago for a change in scenery, so we were wondering what could we expect from moving here. My family definetely has more southern views and we're looking for a place that has really kind people, and a place that is very welcoming, where the small things are celebrated, like holidays, community etc... also we're not super into politics, so my dad is worried, is it close enough to DC where it could be dangerous, politic wise to live for a family? thank you
@pizzamonies793
@pizzamonies793 2 роки тому
It's a wealthy college town, and fairly progressive compared to most southern towns.

Speaking as someone born and raised there, the city folk are pretty liberal and the country folk are pretty conservative. You can strike a nice balance by living on the outskirts. Everyone I grew up with was very tolerant of opposing viewpoints, but folks LOVE to debate. That might have changed since I left, but most of the older crowd are still good people and very friendly and welcoming of new folks.

What city do you recommend for studying phd with my kids Charlottesville or Blacksburg.
@flywithflorin
@flywithflorin 2 роки тому
Thanks for watching! Charlottesville and Blacksburg are very different cities. Both are University-feel in general, but I believe if you are looking for a more slower paced and family friendly area, Charlottesville would be a good choice. Good schools. The Roanoke area (where Virginia Tech resides) is surely more busy and fast paced. Blacksburg and Charlottesville are both home to prestigious schools but it all depends on if you want to live in a busier area or slower paced area. I hope this helps. FN
