We are used to snow. It snows in texas. It just doesn't get negative temps for 5 days and we don't usually loose power and water and have people die of hypothermia in thier own houses.

Here it was very mild temperatures for over a month and then it was really cold for over a week and below freezing for several days when the ice and snow came it settled and only slightly melted on the darker areas when the sun came out before being buried in another foot of snow that night this stuff barely melts with the sun and we haven't been above freezing yet. I think more southern areas were significantly warmer tho.

Perfect for breaking limbs and necks.

The ground is not frozen. I doubt there is even a frost line in Texas

@@jamesw9933 I’m well aware that it is about preparing which they should have done more of considering the last time Texas saw this weather wasn’t even that long ago. Also as a Canadian -15c which is what that storm was, is pretty easy to prepare for, not to mention regardless of that it’s not actually that cold to begin with. A snow storm causes more problems than tornadoes and hurricanes than you are missing basic common sense as a state they should have been smart enough to realize that this happened only 30 years ago and they should have insured and prepared for 5degrees lower than they have had in the past. It’s called thinking of the future and using your head enough to know that if they would have prepared properly years ago this would not have happened

All good solutions, but wiping it off doesn't get everything. Heated seats just melts it faster And wiping the snow off your roof does nothing when it's the wind carrying it. Only one who got it right is the one who has obviously sat in snow.

Only a Temporary solution in temperate regions with no water restrictions. If it is going to be very cold for a long period of time it will freeze Anyway. The real solution is heat tape - temperature controlled electric heat wire that wraps around the pipes

@@m1t2a1 YES the lake effect over here is crazy. At the beginning of winter it was freezing but snow wouldn’t stick and now we’re hitting feet at a time. And usually the end of winter tapers off with snow late into April and is just cold for a while. Yay upstate New York.

They don’t have snow plows and ice trucks (or at least not a lot of them), their pipes aren’t insulated, and a lot of peoples cars don’t have the right tires. So when it snows a lot, and sometimes even just a little bit, everything can go nuts.

Get used to it. This is what happens due to climate change. Extreme weather isn’t just extreme heat, fires, flooding and hurricanes.

Within that, there's a couple of theories with Atlantic & Pacific ocean 'oscillations' resulting in 30 or 60yr cycles impacting weather/local climates. Or longer term, there was the 'Little Ice Age(LIA)' that correlated with a grand solar minima. But correlation doesn't equal causation, and current solar minima might not mean another LIA.. But time will tell. Texas has had this kind of weather before, and probably will again, so doing some simple winterisation makes sense.
