The new rule didn't actually factor in here since the 9ers only got a field goal in the first drive in OT. If the 9ers would have got a TD, then the new rule would have made a difference. This is basically the same rules they've been playing with for years. Instead of sudden death in OT, of the other team only gets a field goal, the other tweak gets a chance to win with a TD or Tie with a field goal. The old rule was if the first that receives the kickoff in OT scores a TD the game is over. Since that didn't happen, it basically reverted to the old rule; the next team to outscore the other wins.
