Just like the riot was a response to Trumps lie of a fraudulent election, BLM protests where response to the real threat of police brutality. This two situations certainly correspond with each other. News media, both lib and conservative spent most of their time showing videos of riots and looting even as they were saying that there were peaceful protests - too bad they hardly ever showed them. The fallout and destruction of riots were far greater and while Democrats sat on their asses and refuse to do something to bring BLM and its supporters to a less violent path, they just sat and watched and although their silence or in verbalizations seemed like support for the riots, in the end it was still a way to look another way. Protests may have succeeded to making legislative changes and holding police officers accountable, who otherwise would not have, but it also gave Trump and many conservative another powerful tool to use to pump up his base. He used the fear and chaos created by BLM protesters to also fuels his base and dictate that he was the president of law and order. Rather than trying to make a national plan on police brutality that would have addressed the pressing issues, he decided he was the law and order president and further agitated the situation by sending in the national guard. Any type of higher ground that Trump and his base could claim went out the window with all of the lies he spewed over the election and the blind faith his base had on those claims. Over 60 cases went to court and they were all laughed out due to lack of evidence - including by Republican judges. He continues to lie that he won the election by a landslide which is laughable and delusional and now his entire base believes that. Honestly, I feel bad for Trump supporters because what I see is people really fighting for something they believe in. I can't actually blame them when they genuinely believe that fraud took place in the election and its actually the dems who are unlawfully trying to take the election from them. Just like I cannot really fault BLM protesters who have years of anger and rage towards and unjust system. However, Trump supporters have been lied to and it is scary because it really does mean that we live in two different realities now. You have half the population who believe the election was unlawfully stolen from them, to the point of storming the capital building to stop the count of the electoral college. How can we reconcile that? That's why America is truly falling apart as a result of Trumps actions, because I think we could have recovered from BLM protests, in fact we were and we have been everytime these types of protests happen, but how do we recover from this? Especially when many trump supporters are threatening civil war, something that I don't think I've ever seen BLM do. I guess you can probably tell which side I lean on based on what I have written thus far, so I do understand that my point of view is biased, afterall the reality I live in is where Trump lied that the election was stolen, many in the GOP spewed the same lies for months, and Trump eventually incited his base to march on the Capitol building which resulted in 5 deaths. From what I have seen the other perspective - at least one that I have seen more than a few times- is that the election was stolen from Trump due to voter fraud (dead people voting, throwing away or ripping up trump votes, etc.), they went to the capital to peacefully protest and it was antifa and blm who hid in the crowds to insight the riots. In my opinion contesting the winner of a presidential election is far more likely to destroy the country by dividing it based on the leader of the nation- I.E. what happened in the first civil war- might actually be a much bigger deal than BLM protests? I mean there are a host of issues that have lead us here, one of course being the advent and toxic implementation of social justice rhetoric/political correctness that made Trump appealing in the first place or Democrats shutting down Bernie Sanders in the 2016 elections and talking about Trump none stop, making him more popular than the popular democratic candidate or Democrats refusal to work with Trump. We can say many things got us here, but certainly I think it was Trump and his supporters who put the needle in the coffin of a shared reality.
