I can't get out of my head that if Russia wanted to bring down our country from within all they have to do is support people like Trump in particular or the republican party in general, everything the republican party stands for today is anathema to democracy or the constitution while making the most ludicrous claim of being the party of Lincoln. Ukraine is proving your point. When properly provoked (an invasion, for instance), people can and sometimes do take power into their own hands. Oppression wakes people up. If they aren't awake enough by your standards, perhaps they are not as oppressed as you think.

I don't think that would work. I say this based on the fact that, when it happened, it didn't work. The rich people fought a pitched battle, and they won. Some dude named Karl explained the whole thing, like 150 years ago, and for a while, we had all kinds of stuff, like Social Democracy, and Unions, and all kinds of stuff. And then we said "Cool, we got what we wanted!" and we sat back and ignored it for the last 40 years while the rich people kept right on fighting, and now we don't have any of that kind of stuff. The entire world is capitalist, and the rich people have rigged the game to ensure they can't be threatened again. I think they did this by convincing people that they were already awake, so when people actually do wake up, they think they're only dreaming. It was a neat trick, huh?

Collective strike, anyone? I think the problem is not that people are not "oppressed as they think", as @raenelle fisher says, but that they lack power as individuals. There are smaller factions fighting for justice (Rev. Barber's Poor People's Campaign comes to mind) but it is hard to get collective buy-in from larger, uninvolved, or uninformed groups bc people simply HAVE to work in this system. It's a slow moving, scary change.
