😅😅😅 For the sake the show they made Claire a lot more... for the lack of a better word _stupid. And I think that is usually the case for most Tv shows 😅. Claire in the show is always suprised by things she kinda already knows. Acts on something without a plan and always counts on Jamie to clean up her mess. She makes rush, not thought over decisions and her temper always gets her in trouble. Now, I am well aware that Claire is a human ,therefore she has faults. But the show sometimes can be over the top to create DRAMA. In the books( I don't know maybe it's because we can hear her thoughts ) she's stubborn but she almost always keeps her cool when she knows can't allow herself to lose it. While she just like Jamie is very opinonated and prone to defend her rights she is SMARTER about it.

Stupid? To be fair, I highly doubt she expected to ever travel through time to an era where this stuff is the normality, heck she was even initially in Scotland and probably never expected to come across slave owners.

To be fair in this clip Claire wasn't going to say anything, she was going to keep her opinion to herself, trying to be smart about it, she only did after Jocasta directly addressed that she harboured some disapproval and she couldn't hide it.

In book Jamie is more rattled by slavery, in show its Claire who is more upset and doesn’t want to stay in River run !

Jamie has been owned before, the show just doesn’t mention his prison and helwater trauma after season 3

I liked the way book-Claire handled the entire slave-issue much more. I was so relieved when I read the book and Claire just had the common sense that she ought to have after more or less 20 years of experience in this time... and the 1960 weren't that progressive when it comes to racism, either. But I like the way TV-Claire and TV-Jamie treat Jocasta muuuch more. They're so mean and judgemental towards her, I was glad to see that they are a lot warmer and gentle with her in the series. Then again it's probably Maria Doyle Kennedy's charm, you just can't make her unlikable. :D I didn't like the entire "they are MacKenzies and therefore they all have the same personality and no heart"-vibe from the books. An totally off topic but Claire calling it justice after she found out that Jocasta cheated on Duncan - despite the fact that he cheated on her, too - and thinking it's fair that Jocasta has to travel for days with brutal headaches and a probably soon exploding eyeball and losing all her 3 daughters and grandchildren in one day and having Hector forbidding her to ever speak of it and losing her sight over the years -as a painter- along with headaches and Hector cheating on her for years, too- is just too much for me. Claire and Jamie were bigamists themselves, like what the actual F.

I find Claire difficult to take in episodes like this. Yes slavery is wrong and it never should have happened but mouthing off to people and being judgemental to them doesn’t help the situation. She came into it with a modern perspective if she had been raised during those times she may have felt the same as them so to judge them for it isn’t fair. She could have taken over river run and changed the way it was run she could have petitioned for those slaves to get freedom and helped them but instead she refused to live there because of how they did things rather than putting the effort into changing how things were done.

You're forgetting that she knew how long slavery lasted! And how they dealt with people that tried to educate and free slaves!!!!!!!!!!!

Ho poor little white people of this time getting judged by Claire because they own human being poor them huh ??? Claire was too soft actually I would have been extremely more severe towards Jamie's aunt and no matter what are their reason the fact they own slave and consider black people inferior deserve a lot more than just sodt judgment. Im a white boy and I'm extremely ashamed of what I just read here.

I've never watched outlander and probably never will but did they just brush slavery aside after acknowledging it and still refuse to engage the woman on the floor or how the lady still benefited from the service even tho she didn't 'approve' of slavery?

Well, if you watch the series it will become clear that disapprovement on certain matters as slavery are more complicated than we think. Back in the 18 hundreds it was almost impossible to change the slavery due to the laws that were made. These laws made it almost impossible to ban slavery, and if you did or tried, it could be very dangerous. Not only for the slave, but also you could hang just for the fact that you're not loyal to the crown.

It's... a lot more complicated then that. She's a 1960's woman who fell through time to the late 1700's. She stayed because she fell in love with a man who can't come to her time... She doesn't agree with a lot of stuff going on and has paid for speaking up many times. Including just a few episodes ago when she was furious about the slave market in Jamaica. And she's also had her fair share of terrible stuff as a woman in the time. She tries a tonne to fix things, but ultimately she doesn't have a say in a lot of it. These are times when if you spoke out about issues like slavery or female rights, you would end up dead. Or, like she experienced, in a witch trial. That's a big part of the show... dealing with the time and not being able to change some things. Whether it be watching someone die of diabetes, of typhoid, of a senseless war or from a corrupt military figure. They try to do their bit. But when they try to change big events they ultimately fail. A few episodes before she'd never had to deal with slavery because she was living with Highlander Clans in Scotland.

It is a show with almost all a white cast and while I think it does tackle a lot of social issues head on in - regards to racism and slavery it's still kind of white feminist at the end of the day. I love the show but the criticisms are very valid.

It's a story from Claire's perspective at the end of the day. Shes a modern woman. Most of the story is about coming to grips with the inhumanity of the 1800s. Her best friend was black do you exepct her to not care when she sees black people used as property or brutalised. The slaves have no voice at this time. Liberation from it came from "white saviours".

Claire, please go back to the stone and be back to your real time. But there are still racism etc in her time and even in 2020. Ugh This was such a tough episode and Claire did not help at all. Then again, without these effed up drama, there will be no Outlander show. LOL 😆
