For as long as human beings have braved the mountain passes and rugged trails of the Canadian Rockies, stories have been told of a huge, elusive, man-like creature that haunts the slopes. Though scarcer and more obscure than its famous West Coast counterpart, this mysterious alpine monster has nonetheless found its way into foundational ethnological treatises on Canada’s First Nations, and into seminal works on the Sasquatch phenomenon. In this piece, we will delve into classic legends of and encounters with the wildman of the Canadian Rockies.

I live in North Idaho and found human-like tracks at least my size (13) or bigger in the snow on a remote trail (Harrison Lake, North of Sandpoint) in 2020. It was in June during the summer melt and I didn't think anything of it at the time. Afterall barefoot hiking is a thing, but being as the tracks were going through some thick snow, they'd have to be pretty dedicated. Not only do I wish I took a picture, but that I looked a little closer, because if I remember correctly they were going up the train but not back down. The snow eventually got way too deep to continue without snowshoes and there's no way a human could've hiked through barefoot. . You can choose to believe me or not, but I'll never forget what I saw because it legitimately made me question my beliefs looking back on it

I've lived in the western foothills of the Alberta Rockies all my life and pretty well know every tree on the Eastern slopes. Plenty of stories abound. I have yet to experience anything that could be even remotely considered sasquatch related. If they do exist, they absolutely have avoided me and that kind of makes me sad lol. My father was working as a prison guard at Nordegg when the Bighorn dam incident occurred. It had a lot of bush savvy, take no s**t kind of men spooked for a long time. My dad would re-tell that story every so often. It's neat to hear it told once again.

True story, and this is in the states, but worth sharing. About 40 years ago I was 10 and my younger sister 8, we had a sighting. We grew up in the rural mountains of Western Pennsylvania and was always exploring the forest. We were headed towards an old orchard which had become almost completely encroached upon by the forest but still had maybe 2 or 3 remaining apple trees. About 50 feet away we froze, because there in front of us we seen what I can only say was a bigfoot. It was picking apples with its it's back to us, I swear on this. It never turned to look at us, or appeared to care we were even there. I've thought about this and figure it seen us, knew we were children and wasn't a threat. Surely it heard our approach as we crunched along on forest floor of leaves and sticks, so what else could it be? Anyways, my young instincts told me not to run. Before us was a large oak probably another 5-10 feet further ahead between us and it. We slowly positioned ourselves as to blocked our view then carefully walked until behind it and hid. To be honest our foolish child minds thought, if we couldn't see it, it couldn't see us, but that's what we did. I have no idea how long we hid, but when I finally peeked it was gone. We never heard it leave, or what direction it went. I was only 10, but I know what we seen. I had seen at least 2 bear before and this was no bear. This had fingered hands and was picking apples, but was only around 6 feet tall. I don't remember anything else except how it was reaching for those apples. A few years ago, curious about reported sightings in Pennsylvania I was pleasantly surprised to learn another, a boy of 13, reported a sighting probably 15 miles away maybe a month later. If I can find site again I'll come back and list it.

In 2018 I was hiking in the Rockies of Western Montana. Everything is quiet and normal, when a feeling of being watched started to develop. Being prior military and police, I lean towards listening to your gut about something. I don't scare easily - not claiming to be Rambo, just saying it takes a lot to get me going. Anyway, the feeling of being watched overcame me so much that I stopped walking, with a large tree to my back, pulled my firearm and started scanning. The next 2 events happened simultaneously, a loud guttural growl came from my left and a large pinecone landed at my feet coming from the direction the sound did. It wasn't human and it wasn't anything native to that area. I have seen - and heard (on occasion tracked and charged) by every species that lives there. People can believe me, or not believe me, but it happened - and no animal in the Rockies throws pinecones.

The landscape is completely different to what I’m used to but it seems to have that same soulfulness you find in the Kimberley’s and Pilbara. It’s gods own country. Where do all those sasquatch stories come from? Do they come from the Ontario urbanites or travelling foreign workers from Europe or Australia who make up 90% of the labor force there, which turns over every 6 months, even daily? Do not forget to mention how most of them spend most of their time drinking booze and "cliquing" in tight social groups in their staff accomodations and very few spend any time at all on the trails in the Wilds.

It's cool how most of these sightings were back in the early to mid 1900's, back before the Continent went through massive growth. I imagine that all of these creatures fled further into the wilderness after seeing Human beings in such a large abundance. The legends and beliefs from certain Indian Tribes that talk about these creatures are scary af, and makes you think that at some point in the past there was a "war" against the 2 different beings. I forget the name of the man who was a French Missionary who wrote his recounts about these legends back in the 1700's or 1800's, but there was a belief among this entire tribe whom he was staying with, that were terrified of going away from a campfire at night by themselves or into the forest alone at night, because of the "Hairy Men" who would steal them, especially the women and children. They said that "you can always smell the Hairy Man when it is close", or something along those lines. I tried looking it up and I can't find anything about it for some reason, except for some website that's behind a paywall, screw that noise.

It is very hard to believe the National Park Rangers, who patrolled the back-country of The Mountain Parks for decades from 1920 -1980, and still do somewhat, do not have reports of these creatures. Same with the thousands of trekkers and hundreds of horseback riders who go out on the trails of this region every summer for the last 50+ years, nearly all who have cameras. Hunters go out in the non-park regions by the hundreds every autumn. Small groups of climbers have ventured to the most remote regions occasionally. Loggers have penetrated most valleys outside the Parks for decades, see the clearcuts and gravel roads on Google Earth. Trappers ply their disgusting trade in many non-park valleys. @@davidmarshall718 thats what i was thinking, of anything no hunters with all their trail cams and hunting gear that can record stuff. and its not like the sasquatch have 1 tiny area they all hide at that hasnt been found. my grandma was born and raised in scotland and she talked about seeing the loch ness monster as does every scot. but as much as i want to believe her i just know its not a thing. the way i think of it is its a myth told to keep kids out of dangerous areas

@@davidmarshall718I am also skeptical of these stories, but I think you're underestimating how insanely vast Canadian forests are. There are many SUPER remote places practically univisted by people, way off any beaten trails. Also, hunting is illegal in Canadian National Parks. I'd imagine that extends to prohibiting trail cams.

Shaking hands with a Sasquatch is like shaking hands with a holy man that is if you know him or her. The grip is firm, strong, and soft. They are protective and have big hearts. I will never forget. I hope one day we can all live in peace with the Sasquatch. If you hear whooping like a chimpanzee or smell skunk you might be near a Skunk-Ape. They are 99 percent Human. The bigger giant size bigfoot are their cousins and some may eat people once in a while. But others won't. Be careful. Cautious.

from northern Saskatchewan and mid October is the time to bull moose hunt so that’s what I was doing, it gets dark around 7:30 in the evening so we are playing the moose caller turning it off and listening for a hour or two than we hear a whoop kinda like a owl but a completely different tone!! so we played the moose caller again to move around to get warm, 10-15 minutes go by listening in the dead silent night and all of a sudden not to far behind our camp we hear that whoop again so we turn our spotlight on and what ever it was went running bc we heard every step it took breaking branches, woke up the next morning and went to look if it could’ve been a moose grunting at us but not a single track!! strange I tell you out of how many years people haven’t caught one on camera but only it’s genuine sound after I came home I was watching this movie called the 411 missing I believe and at the end this guy in California in the 90’s was camping and recorded audio of a supposedly Bigfoot and right when the sound came on I knew instantly it was a Bigfoot I instantly got the chills and goosebumps

Sorry if anyone else has already mentioned this but I don't think the story of the skeletal cannibal giant was about a Sasquatch/Sabeh person. It sounds like it's a Wentigo. Also wanted to request the narrator doesn't say the Dinè word for Skinwalker. That word does not need to be publicly known or repeated out loud. Even just thinking about them is dangerous. Some may say they don't exist. Even if they may not exist I believe Egregores do and that's not something you want to manifest into your reality! And if unfortunately you *have* gotten their attention use cedarwood crosses, cedarwood incense (you can use it's ash to sprinkle in your windows and doorsteps). Additionally you can also use a small fresh branch to asperge or shake holy water or prayer water within your house on anything considered a spiritual "threshold" (doors, windows, fireplaces, mirrors, etc) and at the 4 compass points of your property whilst praying for protection in whatever belief system you follow. Psalm 91 is pretty effective! Be sure once you've first gathered all cedarwood materials you thank the spirit of the cedar tree and ask it to protect you, your family and your property and bring peace to all of those. This is a form of consecration and vitally important to making sure this works. These defensive methods should work for probably all Cryptids and paranormal activity. Hope this is helpful for some folks out there. Generally people who are drawn to videos like this have either had an experience with them or put themselves at risk of having an experience and no one addresses how we can protect ourselves. I hope more content creators in the paranormal niche will address this in the future! PS: If you can't find cedarwood crosses take two twigs (ask the tree before you take them!) and lay one down horizontally and the other on top of it vertically and wrap red yarn or thread around the center in the shape of an X and tie it off once the cross feels stable. I use a hot glue gun to secure the twigs before I start wrapping the yarn. Those in Europe who don't have access to cedarwood may use Rowan wood and berries in just the same way. You can use dried leaves and berries as a smudging incense as well.

Info appreciated. Can confirm some of what was said but did not know about cedar trees. Just as people develop or practice their faith around other humans, there is a long standing faith regarding the outdoors. North America has some very powerful spirits out there, this is why many huddle near cities and can't walk in the deep woods alone. To be clear, a spirit is a form of energy in most cases. Some can be strong with negative or positive polarity. Some spirits did not originate from a human. Some spirits are soo strong they last the ages, these can be the most dangerous as the world of order that they once knew is long gone. Always be respectful of the environment in the woods, they watch constantly. A negative will try to attach to a negative and a positive will be protected as long as its respectful.

Hello, thank you for the video and I find it very interesting. However, I am Siksika (Blackfoot) and I been alway taught that a way to understand your culture and history is through your legends. Legends of the land tells us not only the significance and connectedness to it but also, how long the people have been on the land. So, in my understanding of legends, Blackfoot and Kootenay (Ktunaxa) have been neighbors as long as time and therefore know the land and it's inhabitants. The Shuswap and Stonies are recent newcomers.
