Statistically, these incidents or would've been incidents won't translate into any significant changes. There are so many flights in a day nationally nevermind globally, that a minor event like this is so statistically insignificant that it feels as casual as an incident with your local city bus. Social media highlights the recent major incidents with planes but I wager if you analyzed the "big data" coming out of the airline industry lately, you'll see nothing has changed. And if you need some anecdotal evidence that nothing will/has changed after these events, I just bought plane tickets earlier this week even after having seen these airline/plane incidents in recent news/social media lol.

The FAA in 2012 went to using biographical information to hire candidates rather than training and talent assessment testing (the test that was released in court documents showed things like: You would get 1 point on your score for every high school sport you played, several points if you were unemployed, and surprisingly if you have a pilot's license or previous experience you get 0 points) The FAA is still paying for this blunder and during this time thousands of students paying for their own training gave up trying to get in and moved on with their lives. They probably are not "understaffed", they just don't have enough qualified controllers. Reply

I remember when I was flying out of DCA, they had cleared us for take off on a runway that intersected another...just as a plane was landing on that runway. Fortunately, I saw the plane and cut power before we got to far. DCA especially is a hyper congested airport that is seeing far too much traffic. They should have never opened up runway 4, and in my opinion, they should ether slash traffic and send it to BWI or IAD, or close the airport in its entirety. I loved flying in and out of it, but most pilots would agree its not really that safe of an airfield. As for staffing issues at ATC, that's the FAA's fault.

It's obvious what went wrong. ATC work too many hours and they're tired. They work a thankless job. They need to increase wages and hire more ATC workers. There, I did the investigation for them!

I'm still amazed by how all this is still handled through voice commands. You'd think computerized messages on a display with verbals as a backup would be far safer. Computers are simply way better at processing these types of logistics.
