I wish I had this kind of introduction when I started. Even now there are useful bits (pun intended). Subtractive machining is a lot more difficult than additive one.

Thank you for this explaination. I think I might buy a hobby machine and start making some wooden coasters and placemats. Just to learn the basics. Perhaps stick some artwork on them. Who knows what benefits practicing this occupation as a hobbist might yeild? I wonder if our local college might have a club or adult education evening class I could join?
