Tiny tags that send & store data, powered by radio waves and small enough to be embedded under the skin - RFID is used all over, but it remains a fascinating technology. Learn more: learn.adafruit.com/collins-la...

Would love to see an expansion on this. Like a guide on how to set up that reader, what to do, what not to do etc. The projects on the website (and all the help you can get from the Discord server) works a treat and has helped me more than enough, but videos have a way of keeping you engrossed in a complex subject.

"Yes, in fact, I can confirm that this... IS a LAMP." Epic. Using local area radio waves to confirm that items are what they are. The world will never be the same. Every grocery store should have this. Every item in my room needs this. THINK OF ALL THE THINGS WE CAN CONFIRM ARE THINGS. (On a serious note though, I want everything I own to have this - you could find your stuff in the couch. How epic would that be?)

Done anyone know where you can buy RFID/NFC tags like the first example he showed in the video at 0:28? I want to make some custom ones but typically all you find are ones embedded in stuff and are too small to solder wire to them.

+Rainbow Hyphen Your feedback is a cause of feedback because of feedback. You might want to consider the loops made with aerials as large a CERN. Then someone could come along and draw your attention to stuff larger than Australia: forums.theregister.co.uk/forum/1/2016/03/19/I_Aproveofitspendingonspecificprojects_BoM/?post_received=1 But that would be shameless behaviour.

NFC requires a distance of 10-50 cm, whereas RFID can have a larger range. NFC is also meant for data transfer; RFID is more useful as an identifier (so you can find your keys instead of making a purchase at a register.)

this looks like Passive RFID technology could be used as a foundation for Wireless Power. I wonder if people are researching this avenue of technology for that purpose??
@BDBK666
@BDBK666 10 років тому
Just about every smart phone on the market has wireless charging, along with some electric cars, powered toothbrushes, and other things. Wireless power is nothing new.
@Mikey-Likes-I.T
@Mikey-Likes-I.T 10 років тому
Kevo F . I know that Tesla invented It long ago, and the devices that you mentioned use wireless power, but I am talking about utilizing wireless power to send and receive power so like a WiFi router, a giant tower can send power wirelessly to your house and everything in your house can be powered by it.
@Mikey-Likes-I.T
@Mikey-Likes-I.T 10 років тому
good point, but you can keep it in the same frequency that they already use to broadcast radio that we listen to in our cars. I'm pretty sure that with some research and time it could be done
@Falcrist
@Falcrist 10 років тому
Using a giant coil to transmit power to everyone in a particular area has a number of problems. Some of the problems are physical limitations (tesla never demonstrated widespread wireless energy distribution), others are social or political. However, it's being worked on.
@Mikey-Likes-I.T
@Mikey-Likes-I.T 10 років тому
I was thinking of broadcasting the RF waves which would then be converted to power like the Ardunio sending the RF waves to the coil and then the coil converts the RF waves to power

Isn't RFID extremely insecure?
@milky1234123
@milky1234123 10 років тому
Yup they can be cloned and used for malicious intent if they said RFID belongs to something important
@Falcrist
@Falcrist 10 років тому
It is only ever meant to be a label for an object. It's about as secure as a bar code... which is to say: Not at all.
@AngusPearson
@AngusPearson 10 років тому
Hence their use as door keys is a convenience and absolutely terrible security... Which is why their increasing presence in bank cards is worrying
@Falcrist
@Falcrist 10 років тому
***** They don't make bad door keys. If someone gets close enough to you with a reader, they could have snapped a pic of your key and duplicated it anyway. You can always keep it in a shielded sleeve.
@AngusPearson
@AngusPearson 10 років тому
Falcrist the good old magnetic strip is much more secure... Need to swipe it to clone. Same with the smart card. My uni has just switched from Magnetic to RFID for doors and there have already been security issues
