6:50 I have this same manual but a b450 aorus pro wifi board. It says maximum 12V, so does that mean it can support 5V? I have a cheap rgb strip (Broadlink LED Strip) that was included free with something I bought and been trying to find a use for it. My idea is to have it be plugged into the motherboard and control it that way but I don't know if it'll work. Box says its 5V and it has 4 pins

@@_BLUU_ usually the connections are a certain voltage. Like only 12volts unless it can auto detect. I never tried the incorrect voltage to find out. Would otherwise could happen is that LEDs get fried with too high of a voltage. You can try if you like, I don't have any RGB strips that are 5 volts left to test. Only 12 and 24 volts. My monster brand 5 volt and my goove USB 5 volt are all in the tray these days

Hello, I know you will know about this but did gigabyte h510mh will work with silentiumpc aurora stripes rgb ? It would also be possible to control the LEDs from the BIOS ? or from software

Looks like it should work. Both 4 Pin RGB. If the spacing is identical it should work like it was meant to work together. Usually the RGB control in controlled using motherboard software that needs to be downloaded.

My ASUS B660-i motherboard has an addressable G2 header (3 pin, 5V) and an AURA RGB header (4 pin, 12V). I tried to plug in an airgoo 3-pin light bar to the addressable header, and it didn't light up. The connection seemed a little loose, a little too easy to remove, but I couldn't get it plugged in any farther. I might not be strong enough to set up rgb...lol. Guess my pretty RAM will have to do.
@sparketech
@sparketech Рік тому
There is also the concern of power draw. Most PC RGB headers max put at 5watts while a lot of strips can be 10 watts or more... Also all 3 leads have to match the header for power and such

I have an asus board. I installed aura and have my Ram and gpu set. I have a deepcool as 500 cooler with a rgb strip on it and a fractal torrent case with an rgb strip on it. How would I connect both if my board only has one header? I am assuming those would be 5 volts? do I need a controller or can I get a splitter?
@sparketech
@sparketech Рік тому
The links in the description of my videos are a great source of information on connectors and how to connect strips together. You will probably find your answer on my video how to cut and connect LED strips. I usually leave links to even purchases the packages of connectors. The connectors list the number of pins and width of the strips which is important to be matching as well.

If you need more help after it would make most sense to write on discord where I can actually see pictures but if the pin count is like 4 pin most of the connectors I review are 4 pin and some govee RGBIC I review are 3 pin and the Geeni Prisma were 6 pin... All this and more are in my playlist of RGB LED strip lights, light bars and RGB stuff. I have monetization off, I am not mentioning to make money cause I make zero $ from views.

@@sparketech I have been building pc's for 20 years, this is the first time even trying to do this. The led strip on the cpu cooler (Deepcool AS500) has a 3 pin argb connector and the led strip on the case (Fractal Torrent) has a 3 pin argb connector. I only have one 3 pin header on the board (Asus Tuf X570 plus) so not sure what I need. I am assuming a y splitter would work but I am not sure if the header can deliver enough power. I have the software installed and ram and gpu are synched already.

@@davidbrennan5 your motherboard has a controller built in. I was called for a computer contract I never applied for back in 1998 cause of word of mouth. Been building computers for 25yrs. Connecting this was not some UKpostsr knowledge... I just did it after I made sure they were voltage compatible. It does help that I have electrical training so I do know what to look for in terms of current output so it does not exceed the built in motherboard controller. I have no clue if your strips are voltage and pin compatible without testing them. If you check your strip specs and check you motherboard header specs to see if they line up than you'd know. That information shouldn't be exclusive and should be known values listed in a manual for the motherboard and for the strips
@davidbrennan5
@davidbrennan5 Рік тому
@@sparketech Thank You for your help, I learned a lot from your video. I think ordering a rgb controller that has multiple argb outputs would be best, the splitters are almost the same price. This case has 2x 180mm fans on the front and 3x 140mm fans on the bottom. I ordered this rbg ram kit only because I could get it very quickly for the build and the gpu had built in rgb. It just looks odd having the middle and top left of the side window dark now. I may just order 2x180mm rgb fans that comes with a controller then to get it all set up and balance the lighting out. I usually do black out builds this is a first for me.

Can i use 7m long led stripe with that port.
@sparketech
@sparketech Рік тому
Not likely due to power limitations of the port. There should be a spec for your port of volts and amps

hi i want to buy a sk6812 and the problem is its 5v while my b550m msi pro vdh has 12v connector how do i connect the led strip to my pc
@sparketech
@sparketech 9 місяців тому
You don't... you'll need 12 volts and everything powered correctly. The only reasonable option is an adapter or hub or some sort that would happen to be compatible. Connect any if you have the matching voltages. The PCI-E connector is 12 volts btw... but the pin out of the strips matters to find the compatibly hub to make it all work.
@sparketech
@sparketech 9 місяців тому
It is FAR easier when the ports are matching voltages, like I specify in this video. When you have to use a HUB you have to hope you can find software control for the strips for that hub and other issue is the matching pin voltages. I'm an electrician by trade but I don't have those strips to test.
@joshuajohn74
@joshuajohn74 9 місяців тому
@@sparketech what adapters wiuld you recommend
@sparketech
@sparketech 9 місяців тому
@@joshuajohn74 I wouldn't recommend any. I would never personally change voltages and next part is the 3 pin connection and next issue is finding a hub that allows use of any form of RGBW control. To make something work without being a fire hazard would likely cost much more than your strips... You'd be best off to research options "12 volt RGBW hub" to see if there are any. Cheap hubs are splitters only that might work is to purchase a 3 pack RGB fan with correct voltage and RGB pin put. I Reviewed 4 recently but do not remember the pin outs.... 2 we're ARGB... RGBW is not common. I can't recommend any sort of hack job, and then you have to deal with software that might now allow these to work. there is a reason I say in this video "matching" voltages.

My mobo header says 12v 3 ampere but also says don't put more than 2 m, why? If I use 30 led 5050 rgb stripe which takes 7.3 watts approx. I could use 4 m easily then why mobo manual said 2 m. To tell us not to use the header at full potential and keep it to 2/3rd only
@sparketech
@sparketech Рік тому
If I were a manufacturer I would also write 2 meters because some people would run higher power strips. Saying 2 meters max is a great way to cover your butt and avoid warranty claims if something could use more than 3 amps. 3 amps is likely a strict hard limit and on power on a 7.5 watt strip might pull 12 watts momentarily at power on.

Is it possible to connect the rrb light strip to a ch_1 header on the motherboard
@sparketech

4 pin RGB is power to Red Green and Blue. the 4 pin fan header has a power on, ground (no power) a signal line to measure speed (not power) and DC Pulses to the fan (off on flashing power). Totally different power leads.

I don't see any specs that allow for RGB, brand names unless being a high end system usually cut out all the extras to save money. I build all my own computer systems to avoid limitations. almost all custom computers builds have RGB headers other than entry level. You'd be best off to get a controller for RGB that connects to the a power supply header or simply something external that is USB connection. I have a playlist of the many RGB light strips, bars and RGB products I've reviewed. I don't actually have any strips running off my headers but I currently as can be seen in new videos have 2 USB light bars, a USB lamp and Govee Flow light bars connected behind my monitor.

Bro you have to turn off your pc before you touch it 💀
@sparketech
@sparketech Рік тому
Nope, but it is safe. It is 5 volts and if you short nothing together it is 100% fine. Most likely hazard is shorting the motherboard if playing with metal, the connectors are covered in plastic. You do know electricians deal with live voltage all the time... I am an electrician, 5 volts is completely safe. Bet you touched both terminals on a 9 volt battery before or licked it to check charge? 9 volts is far more dangerous than 5volts and 12 volts is a low hazard as well especially due to the amp limit. The computer power supply is a real hazard, and I did get a really good shock back in my younger years.
