In this episode, we connected our two shipping containers! We started this process by welding angle iron onto each container and then connected 2x6's to them. We still have to bridge the lumber but we can finally walk across the containers! Don't forget to like and SUBSCRIBE so you can follow us on our journey:)

You should use those walls you cut out, as a lil skirt for your containers. It'll keep the rats out, and keep your containers cooler. Just cut small louvres at the tops of a couple for ventilation.

I'm a carpenter so I could really pick this apart lol but you guys should have used pressure treated lumber cause the kind you used is going to warp,bend and twist soon. Also make sure to use galvanized screws/nails so they don't rust. Just a few tips,if you have any questions I'll be glad to help
@sfoxall1

It’s not touching the ground. It doesn’t need pressure treated lumber for that use. Also the nails/screws aren’t in the elements they are under the floor. They did fine with this.

Floor looks great just a tiny bit of advice for you put the insulation in now before you put down the subfloor cause the less amount of time under the house is so much better for you I know that advice sucks but I'm a general contractor and I built probably close to 200 homes and 15 high rise buildings believe me being under there with tools suuuuuuuccckkkssssss

Is it me or does it seem like the notches in the wood should be on the top side versus the bottom because the pressure is coming from the top. Also does notching the wood on the ends make it weaker?
@JMCichlids
@JMCichlids 5 років тому
I can see it being a problem with a lot of weight on top of the floor but most likely will not even be an issue. The amount of weight wood can hold horizontally would surprise you.
@SuperDave44Mag

Guys the span is nothing for a notched 2x6 to handle. The notch is no different than putting a 2x2 on a beam and running ceiling joists in your house. It’s basically a support ridge, and is no problem for a 2x6 with such a short span.
@noworriesmate8287
@noworriesmate8287 5 років тому
Putting the notch at the top would cut down the amount of floor build up to make it level. Then install underlayment then wood flooring.

I'm a carpenter and I would have personally notched out the top instead of bottom as well but it really depends on the measurements of how thick the sub floor and how thick the flooring is that they're gonna be using. That small notch would maybe weaken the lumber very slightly but it would still definitely pass in my book
