All rights belong to badass journalist @VolodymyrZolkin . As I've said in intro, I want to bring these interviews to much more people and I think dubbing is a good way to do it. This is my first dubbing ever. So I'll be grateful to see your thoughts in comments. Special thanks to my friend Alex for helping me with correction of mistakes and pronunciation.

FYI the channel @istandwithukraine_nataliya5461 used to translate this journalist's interrogation/interviews with Russian POWs until the journalist copystriked? her channel. This happened 7 months ago and he forced her to remove all of the content. You can still find a couple in her video library that were from different sources. All she did was put English subtitles on them. Hopefully your videos will fall under fair use. I used to watch all of them which is why your video got recommended to me. I hope this doesn't happen to you or you have his approval. She never credited him though. Took me awhile before I found out who he was.

Hi Rick, I just wanted to thank you for translating Volodymyr Zolkin's interviews into English. I have tried to watch his channel for many months, but I don't speak Ukrainian or Russian and had very difficult time with the closed caption option. Au contraire Mon Frere - the warmongers need this war to sell their f*cking weapons don’t ya think 🤔🫤 if no hostilities (fake or genuine) then nobody needs to buy weapons systems and ammunition. Follow the money… ask yourself who gains and who loses? And what is lost - lives of people with families of their own who were hoodwinked into “serving” are lost. And society knows this is despicable but most of us listen to the “News” propagandists on every side because most are occupied by caring for their own families in most cases. And there are those who don’t give a damn and are profiting on the dividends their stock portfolios are paying out. And what the f**k did our parents and grandparents fight all those past wars to preserve and protect?? Us, that’s what 🤨! I have a strong sense that we ARE our brothers keepers - or should try to be😣? How can we be the change that we want to see in OUR lives and the lives of OTHER FOLKS ?? The selfish, greedy, lying through their teeth elitist a**holes that are in positions of power and control have us so f**kin focused on which of our neighbors we need to be hating on that we can’t see the bigger picture. We are being played like a fiddle. Be kind to somebody today, huh, and YOU will probably feel better than whoever you are helping , which is a feeling the “elite” a**holes can never feel 😉😂😎.
@all4jet
@all4jet Рік тому
@@patdaddymusic so what do you propose? The Ukrainian people should just say, “fuck it, we’ll just die so the military industrial complex makes less money.” Your argument implies the Ukrainian people have a choice on whether they’re invaded or not, which quite frankly they don’t. And regarding our grandparents, they fought for a world where sovereign nations aren’t violently invaded by their neighbours, now it’s our turn to fight for the same.

I confess that I felt a bit sorry for the poor young chap. It's hard to imagine such a person committing atrocities, or even pointing a rifle at anyone. He didn't seem to have any sense of control over his destiny. He was just doing what he was told to do. A friend told me that while he was sometimes in the USSR in the 1980s he formed the opinion that the citizens were a bit naive. Slava Ukraine!
@lottnio8207
@lottnio8207 Рік тому
It of course doesn’t reduce the responsibility if they commit war crimes but one can pity many or most Russian soldiers. You can say they are in some sense naive. Now even more so than in the Soviet Union even though they in theory have much better changes to follow foreign media etc. They are strongly indoctrinated to think the state is more important than an individual and to believe state propaganda. Their concept of truth is different than in the west. They may accept propaganda as a truth even when they know it is not true if the “fact” is usable or beneficial. It’s difficult to gasp but the way of thinking is different. They accept more easily that the state can control their destiny and do what they are asked to do. Of course people in western armies submit to discipline (and in the end are actually more disciplined) but they generally need to know what they are doing and why. Russians don’t necessarily feel need to ask questions and they accept more easily if answers are changed (in Ukraine they have been told at different times that they are fighting neo-Nazis, gays, NATO or Polish..). Russian soldier is a strange animal. The reality is that they need to be shot in a battle or captured but pitying them is ok nevertheless as they really come from a pretty fucked up country).
@BeeTriggerBee
@BeeTriggerBee Рік тому
He should be glad that hes not rotting in a field somewhere as he should, I have no sympathy for these animals and even tho this dude might never have done something wrong he sure as fuck didint stop his mates, so guilty by association. First mistake you all make is to view these animals as humans.
@lottnio8207
@lottnio8207 Рік тому
@@BeeTriggerBee Demonising the enemy too much doesn’t accomplish anything. Feeling sorry for them doesn’t change the facts they are responsible of their actions. Despite the indoctrination and all every Russian, civilian and soldier, should stand agains Putin and the war. Soldiers are responsible what they do in the war. If they participate in war crimes they are responsible (as you say watching them happen and doing nothing might count too). We have to understand the circumstances in Russia and what the people think but despite the state, society and culture all people are responsible of their actions. If one lives in an autocracy, dictatorship or whatever one has responsibility to find out how things really are and responsibility to resist. But there is no need to inhumanize such people totally. It’s not necessary to fight and judge them. Inhumanazing them might lead to wrongdoings (war crimes) agains them and at that point we’d not be any better than them. Also of we want to change them, we have to understand why they are like they are. First mistake is to see them as not humans but animals. That’d reduce us to the same level with them and that’s not what we want. We’re better. By we I mean everyone who is against them either killing or capturing them or helping Ukrainians some way or an another to do that.

@@BeeTriggerBee They have been treated like animals for all their life. The whole point of western society after ww2 is to avoid this kind of association, to avoid using cannon fodder and butchering young men: russian soldiers did commit atrocities, but the correct way is to save and educate as many as them as we can, rather than treating all of them as animals, so that they can start to bring russian society closer to democratic values. If you treat them as they treated Ukraininans, you will only make fuel for their internal propaganda, working for putler in the end. You are doing a great job of dubbing these interviews. I am already a subscriber to Volodmyr Zolkin's English channel but it is just with subtitles, dubbing is much better and easier to understand. I am also glad that we can still hear their actual voices in the background as this will prove to Russian speakers that this is not scripted but is an honest representation of what is being said. Great job! Please keep up the good work. Thank you. 😊

You are doing a wonderful thing by translating this. I simply don't have time to sit and read closed captioning. I'm a single (widowed) mom and work a lot, so I get most of my information through listening while doing boring things (cleaning, cooking, etc). This is also really helpful for Americans who are flooded with misinformation and generally won't watch something with subtitles. The world needs to stay strong with Ukraine- for all our sakes

Yes, the actual information we get from soldiers shows an army that's sort of all over the place. The Battalion Tactical Group (BTG), for instance, is supposed to be sort of a mini-marching army, able to support itself, so you'd think these would have a rigid, established table of organization & equipment (TOE), but we saw some BTG with 500 soldiers, & some with slightly more than 150. There's these huge variations in quantity, quality, tactics, small theater of value strategies. They're a hodge podge of men & machines without much cohesion. This gentleman they mention, Colonel Bikov, who was arrested for stealing their supplies, his position as a political commander is what they call zampolit. Zampolit back in the USSR days were political officers; they were assigned to make sure soldiers, officers in particular, didn't stray from Leninism /Stalinism, that they follow noone but the Community Party. Zampolit left after the fall of the USSR. Sometime in ~2016 Putin brought zampolit back; today they police their soldier's ranks & make sure they follow noone but the Russian Orthodox Church (& maybe Islam, depends on the unit's origins, like if they're Tajik or one of dozens of Muslim minorities).

Rick thanks for posting this video, it was a fascinating interview. I have seen interviews by Mr. Zolkin over the past few months with Russian prisoners. He is very adept at putting each interviewee at ease while extracting information on their background, experiences in Ukraine and treatment as a prisoner. I am always amazed how many prisoners want to get back their homeland via prisoner swap after how their government has treated them. I realize they can be homesick for family and familiar surroundings, however they may end up in prison or get sent back to Ukraine again. They may not be so lucky to get captured a second time.

I'm glad you've enjoyed it, David! Thank you for watching! I'll definitely do more of them. As for your observations... The thing is that most of them are just lying during these interviews when it comes to their beliefs or changes in their perception of reality. They just say what they think Zolkin whants to hear but inside they think that russia is right, that they are fighting NATO here and most importantly they think that Ukraine belongs to russia. So they don't care that russia abused them and will keep abusing them, they've got used to this, they'll cope anything.
