Correction: I'd like to make a small plea for the history of poetry here. "Parody" comes from the Greek "parodia," poems written in epic meter but treating subjects unworthy of epic (i.e., mock-epic). The variety of parody that you appeal to in this segment, in which the words of an original are modified to comedic effect (e.g., Weird Al) was, according to Aristotle, invented by the poet Hegemon of Thasos. So the first parodist was a poet!

As a photographer, I can attest that the blurring seen in the skeleton Volvo shot is not necessarily an indicator of speed. You can get the same blurring with a slow car and a longer exposure, or a fast car and a short exposure. So I assume the Volvo was stuck in traffic and the photographer used a tripod to allow for a very long shutter speed with a tight aperture, possibly a neutral density filter. Since people tend to allow too much room when lining up in traffic it's quite possible that this car was still crawling forward despite no other cars in view. An astute photographer would in fact make a point to wait for the ideal circumstances to isolate the subject. As usual carrections is the highlight of my YT week.

Given that Wally typically uses 14 inch by 22 inch cue cards and if the cue card grew in relation to Wally's size, then as a baby, his cue card would be smaller than what you utilized. To exactly determine the cue card growth, you would have to decide whether to compare surface area or use a weight basis. Either way, the baby cue card should be smaller. Back up calculations available upon request. You have been jackal'd!!
@yrtepgold
@yrtepgold 2 роки тому
Actually the size of the card is determined by the chest size of the person holding it up. Therefore their example was spot on correct.
@adamz8276
@adamz8276 2 роки тому
@@yrtepgold Seth explains that Wally was born with the card. He goes on to refer to the cards as "the same as arms and legs". From this reference that would mean the card is biological in nature and as such should grow in reference to the size of the baby to the size of the adult. Adult cue card: 14in by 22in = 308in^2, Baby cue card: 3in by 5in = 15in^2 a growth rate of 20.53 for surface area and weight basis given the paper thickness and density is the same and constant for both cue cards. An average adult has a surface area of 1.9m^2. A new born baby has a surface area of 0.25m^2. (I found the numbers on the internet. I did not physically measure the surface area.) 0.25m^2 x (308in^2/15in^2) = 5.13m^2 1.9m^2 / 0.25m^2 = 7.6 growth rate 308in^2 / 7.6 growth rate = 40.53in^2 baby cue card or 5.44in by 7.44in I previously said smaller, but that was weight based with some assumptions. Only way to verify the correctness of this hypothetical absurdity is if Wally publicly weighs while displaying his birth weight certificate. The 20.53 growth rate is much closer on weight basis. In conclusion, I see where you are coming from but I am prepared to argue.
@yrtepgold

@DelinahLovesHouseBunnies
@DelinahLovesHouseBunnies 2 роки тому
@@adamz8276 I think the card size can be whatever they want it to be, because each cell type grows at its own rate, and the card comprises an unknown cell type(s). Teeth grow at a different rate from liver, skin, nails, ... In fact, different _areas_ of skin, mucous membrane, bone, etc., grow at different rates, plus they react to stimuli; e.g., bone responds to weight-bearing exercise by growing thicker and denser, and palm and sole skin grows especially fast to compensate for all the friction. Proportions change from infant to child to adult! Since Wally is unique in having this feature, you can't know how the cue card size should (or should _not_ ) have changed in proportion to the rest of Wally's body as he grew up; that's like saying, "How long should his tail grow, infant to adult?" There's a wide range of acceptable answers that fit with what we see in other mammals, from bear or hamster to cheetah, and he could even be an extreme outlier, with a much longer tail than any other known creature. Your reasoning reminds me of those medieval painters who painted babies that looked like adults shrunken down with preserved adult proportions (they did it to represent the idea of Jesus as a homunculus).^ I like that you're trying to work it out scientifically, but you forgot that body proportions change quite a bit from infant to adult, and different cell types/organs grow at different rates. So there's nothing wrong with the cue cards having changed size/volume in proportion to the rest of Wally's body as he grew up. And I'm guessing he sheds them like snake skin in order to show new words on new cards?! Actually, *@Pete Reno* makes a lot of sense. If we assume Wally with his cue card organ is born functional, and a stack of chest-sized cue cards are comfortable for an adult to hold, then newborn Wally should hold a newborn-chest-sized cue card or smaller. Because infant arms are weak, it was just one cue card, not a stack, and it was as thin as typical letter paper instead of cardstock. Newborns have that grip/certain amount of arm strength, so I'm sure newborn Wally could hold up that "It's a boy!" cue card, which would be something like a fingernail (maybe not even requiring grip, since it's part of him, but requiring holding one or both arms up to display); then, he shed it when he had something new to say. (Which reminds me: Parents, teach your babies infant sign language! It cuts down so much on both parental and infant frustration when a 6-month-old can sign what they want.) ////Bunny kisses for all! ^ www.google.com/amp/s/www.thevintagenews.com/2019/02/19/babies-in-medieval-art/amp/ *Why Babies in Medieval Art Look Like Ugly Old Men* See the 2nd picture, "Madonna di Castelfiorentino," 1280s

Seth is just poking at Oregon jackals to get a reaction at this point. The last Blockbuster is here in Bend, and it opens at 10:30 every day. He just instigating now.

Came here to say this. You could go to The Last Blockbuster, confuse them by asking for "Ring 2," rent THE Ring 2, go to mass, hear a priest doing Sloth, drive to Astoria, watch The Ring 2 at the Goonies Jail, and then go to night mass & hear the same priest doing Sloth at the church he was reassigned to for doing Sloth at mass that morning.

Laurel, you are not omitting anything if it doesn’t belong there in the first place.

I once spent a night as a wind-shield wiper: we were on a road trip through Europe in a VW Van with the Sziget festival as end destination. When we drove through Slovakia it started to pour excessively and we figured out another one of the van's many flaws, but we couldn't delay lest we miss the start of the festival. So we tied a piece of rope on the wiper and looped it through the windows and I spent a couple of hours kind of doing that motion you do when drying your back with a towel... Maybe not the safest solution, but man that was a good summer.

Awesome story! Wipers-related... My parents met when they were teenagers (married 47 years). My dad got a new car & the wipers control was a pedal/control on the floor. He told my mom it was controlled by tapping the dash in a really specific way... Every time he tapped it, he also pressed the control with his foot. The wipers worked. Every time she tried, he did not - the rhythm wasn't right, she was too gentle, too harsh, not hitting the right spot, had to 'double tap'... and so on. That part of the story is better acted out, but use your imaginations, I'm sure you'll get there. It's survived almost 50 years & it's still hilarious.

One time my mom was on a trip with her brother and the exact same problem occurred. Luckily, when they pulled over they found a squeegee in the trunk. So my uncle spent hours hanging out the side of the car being the windshield whipper so mom could drive.
