Actually the ony coyote attacked one so he ran. The other racoon chased after him. Our trash panda decided to hold down the food spot. This is when the others came out of hiding.

Fun fact: Raccoons are cannibals

They weren't targeting the raccoon. They wanted the food the raccoon had. If those coyotes were thirsty for some raccoon meat, it would've been finished pretty quick.

That's interesting. My dog ripped one apart in about 30 seconds 4 nights ago.

If they were hungry and the racoon was the only prey/food available they would have killed him.

Of course your dog is probably 3 times bigger than a raccoon. Let him try that with a fisher cat or a American badger and you would probably be lookin for another dog.

@@dwanrobinson Well, he has been used to hunt Fisher cats as well. I recognize that coons and fishers are determined fighters, but they are not a match for dogs that have been bred for the specific purpose of hunting. He's still around, doing fine though, thank you.

Nope. They're thinking, we can kill him alright but he has claws and really mean teeth and one or more of us are really going to get really hurt. It's not worth it, we'll just harass him a little bit and then find something better to kill. You see, when you get bit in the wild as a coyote, there is no disinfecting and bandaging the wound. Assuming that no important blood vessel was hit. So wounds get infected and more often than not that animal dies or comes away too crippled to survive. So predators do give it thought whether the risk is worth it.

It was definitely territorial. Notice that one Coyote marked the area before they left. Could be coincidental, but I doubt it. Especially if the pack thinks that area has potential for food.

More like competitors for food. Two things will happen the competitor is run off or killed.

I lived in Calgary for 7 years. Never saw a homeless guy and a coyote in the same place. We appear to have had differing Calgarian experiences.

I use to have a German Shepard mix that killed a raccoon bigger than the ones in this video and she was bout the size of these coyotes… a raccoon doesn’t stand a chance 1v1… these coyotes probably weren’t hungry enough but who knows how it ended it was literally two other raccoons in the area

@@Twongz_does_anything a coyote would murder a raccoon 1 vs 1. however, a coyote would also get injured in the fight. so the coyote would very rarely agree to fight a raccoon to the death, 1 vs 1. its just not worth it for the coyote. why would the coyote risk injury against a coon when it can get free meals elsewhere
