Make Monaco a night race, on the extended track "Two Princesses Route" and remove the Nouvelle Chicane so there is one giant DRS zone from Portier into Tabac all whilst making the cars smaller too. Edit: Tabac chicane cannot be removed due to lack of run off, noted thanks! Either way though, smaller cars in 2026 ideally and an extended circuit would be nice. Perhaps the Tabac chicane could just be made less harsh and maintain a little more pace through it.

And a minor change: If F1 want to make Monaco all about the history of the sport: Make it a throwback weekend, old liveries etc. Remember how good the Gulf livery McLarens looked this year?

Just bring awful tyres that degrade after 10 laps to have loads of pit stops and huge pace imbalance between new and old tyres

It would be interesting to see someone make a mod for the Joker/Mega Joker variants of the track for assetto corsa or another game on the sim

The joker lap could also be used as an alternative to time penalties.

Making the cars smaller is the most obvious way to sort this. Makes the most sense, benefits the fans and drivers when it comes to the race

The 'joker route' concept is something i've been thinking of for a long time.... a circuit with alternate routes. It's such a good idea. It adds another tactical battle into it to keep teams guessing and stop predictable strategies worked out before the grand prix... the only thing is the rejoin.... it just needs enough time to run side by side to avoid an accident

I love the joker lap idea! I think it’s brilliant. Fixing the cars might be a better long term idea, but that solution will take time. The joker lap idea could be implemented immediately and you’re right, it will create enough extra strategy and mixup in the procession that it would fix Monico.

the little joker roundabout would be awesome! i went to google maps and measured that going via the roundabout could add 50 to 55 meters on the long straight trough the tunnel, which could help with a bit higher final topspeed and interresting overtaking opportunities

Here is a crazy idea. How about keeping the qualifying on Saturday as is and then on Sunday , instead of f1 cars, the drivers are given formula student cars to race.

I love the (small) joker lap idea, but you could get a similar effect by just increasing the minimum number of pit stops from 1 to 3, which seems way more in the FIA and fans' comfort zones

I was always about F1 has to have structure and consistency. However, I would make an exception for Monaco. Imagine the joker lap, where some cars are on the joker lap with a safety car or take the joker lap and get stuck behind some cars and lose time. There would be a lot more strategy and having to overtake a lot more. I'm all for it.

What about monaco being a “Drivers only track”, where they race with a small historic spec car, so all cars are the same, and only drivers score points, and each team can put their livery on the car

THANK YOU! I've been advocating for a Joker lap at Monaco for years now. So glad to see a voice of reason out there! Another crazy idea I've suggested (similar to your smaller car notion) is for F1 to run a special race at Monaco with no Constructor points, only driver points with smaller, spec open wheel cars built to resemble historic period cars. Let the drivers compete head to head with equal equipment.

1. take the Monte Carlo Rally 2. hold it again as the Grand Prix Weekend so there is no ice 3. use the F1 cars with radio coms and onboard cam so the race engineer can be the "codriver" 4. call it a day 5. wonder why the fatalities in and around Monaco are rising

I actually love the joker lap idea, there needs to be some way to make sure there isnt a crash upon rejoining but apart from that, I think it could actually work

I was wondering if that extension around the roundabout would help the current cars since the turn is faster and the straight is slightly longer. But yeah, the cars are just too chonky.

I think the layout of the Joker lap would already help as it makes the tunnel “straight” longer. At the moment it feels that with DRS they would need and additional 100m or so to actually make a pass at the chicane (as in, the chicane comes too early).

Have 3 ferries lined up right b4 the tunnel (basically where the track starts running along the coast). Twice during the race the cars have to stop and take the slow ferry across to Rascasse. You can't just wait to take the ferry at the end when everyone else already has cuz there are only 3 ferries, you can only use them when one is back from dropping off a previous driver. So you have to plan and anticipate the ferry strategy not only of your direct opponents but the entire field.

Before watching: Let the drivers start in intervals and make the entire thing a time trial race. After watching: I did not mean a super qualifying sunday, I mean an Isle of Man TT style race.

I do not know what kind of a living you make with your efforts, but you deserve more anyways. Every video is incredible and your 2020 recap was the best piece of content I had seen that whole year, if not more. If I would ever be a fan of anything, I'd be your fanboy every time.

The joker lap we thought would be a good idea a few years ago, its nice to see it. In ours it was 39 laps round the round about and 39 inside but they can choose when they take it. It gives a great run into the tunnel. The other idea was using the round about but splitting the lanes side by side to give the car behind a run at the car in front

Count me in for Super Mega Qualifying Sunday, with the the 3 aggregates during their 3x20 minute time slots. This would be awesome, AND the one at a time baby-qualy on Saturday would still be fun to watch as well. One question - how would the order for Saturday be decided? Best lap from FP3? Current position in the individual Drive’s Standings?

Ditch the race, add an extra qualifying session and award half points for both sessions. Everyone loves Monaco qualifying, it's the races that are a procession.

This was an awesome video! My Papa was from Nice (near Monaco), a chef in Boston, loved to race as a hobby (w/ his Austin Healey, license plate SCARGO 🐌). I never got into racing, but everytime i see bits of the Monaco race, i think "This COULD be amazing if the cars were smaller. I might even become a fan." -- so i did a search and found this video! 🎯🍻 I also love that joker idea!

The joker around the roundabout is a great idea that would make racing so much better around Monaco.

My 2 cents, before watching the video! (so I don't get influenced by it) Quali in Monaco is amazing, so make it longer! Add a Q4 top 5 shootout (1 lap only maybe). And since the race is boring, make it shorter, with 2 mandatory pit stops (most of the overtakes and the action happen there, usually). Also, make it so every one has to use all of the 3 different tyre compounds. Edit: also, award points for quali and decrease the amount of points for the race.

this all makes far too much sense! absolutely love the idea of the joker laps. It works really well in WRX and could add an element of excitement that is really needed. If they’re happy to change qualifying then surely they can’t be too scared of trying something like this out

Joker lap sounds like a properly exciting and viable idea. It works really well in Rallycross. Putting the mega joker in would cause traffic carnage for the locals and would add cost and headaches for the organizers - a tough sell.

These are some great ideas! I had a similar idea to the super pole myself, although I think the best idea is to make the cars smaller and more agile. No idea why they thought making the cars bigger would make better racing

One shot Qualifiying in the F1 cars, then race in one make f3 cars! The teams get to show who has the fastest car and then the drivers have to show what skill they actually have in equal cars.

Coming back to this months down the road--mega joker is brilliant for two reasons: 1) real opportunities for overtakes, and 2) the length of it introduces greater variability in time to complete than the mini joker, so just as with a pit stop, if someone is ~20s (or however long the joker lap generally takes) ahead of another driver and takes the joker, it suddenly produces an exciting moment of "will he stay ahead or not?" where sometimes the driver does stay ahead and sometimes he doesn't. The mini joker, being shorter, would be equally about strategy, but less about risk.

How about stealing the "Domination" mode from DiRT Showdown? You still get some points for position, but a good chunk of your points are based on who set the best time in each sector. That way you can get big shifts in points even without overtaking

I agree with the qualifying staying the same. I want to see the old cars run though, like the small 50s cars. Make it spec, safer cars designed by 3rd party like Dallara (indycar chassis supplier). Keeps heritage

I loved the Formula E race, but I’d add one more difference between it and F1 - Formula E can use attack mode at any point on the track given them more opportunities to close the gap and overtake. Formula 1 only has DRS on the main straight, which is never enough for an overtake. On most tracks, this is fine with me. But it’s a problem here in Monaco

I think the easiest and most feasible way to make Monaco interesting is by making all the teams race in soft only tyres and also make the pit stops mandatory for at least four times on Sunday. Because for Monaco, Saturday solely relies on the drivers while for Sunday it's entirely based on team strategy.

The last idea is IMO the best one. The F1 cars have a hard time following in dirty air. Make the cars easier to follow in dirty air, and you get better racing...basically everywhere.

Just make the cars narrower to make it like “Who says you cannot overtake” Like the 2000s.

A bracket style tournament on Sunday would be wild. Imagine Saturday you quali for seeding and then a 1V1 bracket style elimination tournament the next day. Total time to do 3 laps on track 1 car at a time. You get one out lap and then you have to do a standing start to start your 3 laps.

Fix the cars, use the joker lap but actually being an actual part of the lap, create an extension at the southern portion of the harbour and make it a night race. Done.

The week before the race, the race organisers throw a dart at a list of numbers from 01 to 99. Every lap of the race, the drivers' lap times are all recorded down and the drivers are awarded 1 point for each lap times that has the number from the dart throwing in it. So if the dart lands on the number 51, the laptimes that have 51 in it will be given 1 point, eg: 1:10:51, 1:51:23, etc

I'll be honest. I have never liked Monaco as an F1 circuit. It's usually the most boring race of the year unless there are some crashes. The only reason they keep going back year after year is that Monaco is a playground for the rich. If this race was in any other city with a cramped circuit like this it would have been dropped years ago. Personally, Monaco is one I can do without. Also, I don't think adding a joker or mega joker lap would work any better because it would still be on the cramped streets of Monaco.

You can do a few minor tweaks to the track as well. First get rid of Anthony Noghes corner and open up Rascasse. 2nd move the Nouvelle Chicane down further to allow a bigger breaking zone. Finally widen Casino Square and Mirabeau just a little bit. This would only require minor structural changes that could be done between seasons.

Crazy idea 4: tear down a couple of buildings and make the track wider for overtake. Crazy idea 5: Don't race in Monaco as its a #Novertake race now.

Instead of extra track being a joker… just add it to the current track!

When people ask why I watch Formula E. I point to races like Valencia and Monaco 2021 and various other races (but Valencia and Monaco being standouts) and Say "Why Do I Watch Formula E? The Racing. The Kind of Racing and Competitiveness that we all secretly wish was part of Formula 1, consistently."

I liked the idea to change the cars, that certainly seems like the most sensible option, but I didn't like any of the other crazy ideas you listed. But here's another crazy alternate idea for you: Keep the race weekend mostly as is, but split the race in two, right down the middle. At that mid point, red flag and re-grid, but invert the field from that point. So if you were first half way through, you're now last. If you were second, you're second to last. Etc. Divide the points that you get for the weekend in two as well, and award those points for positions for both the end of the race, and our mid-way stopping point. You could even split them 60/40 or 70/30 if you wanted to, to incentivize teams to push in the first half and not just wait until the end to hopefully get an easy high finish. This way, you still keep the point of racing, to race with the field on the same track over an extended period of time and be faster than those around you, overtaking when you can, but you also solve the problem of no one being able to overtake. There's also no major safety issues to worry about with joker exits or entries or with some cars on hot laps for qualifying and some not. The field is flipped midway through so everyone essentially has "overtaken" everyone else, and then it really boils down to who is faster and who isn't. And if nobody can actually get through, then the points reflect that at the end. It keeps the challenge of Monaco, and gives more emphasis on overtaking.

F1 already has a "joker lap". It's called "a pit stop".

So, firstly I concur that the "Jewel in the Crown" thing is extremely irritating and for me a major part of why I really dislike Monaco and rail against it constantly. I like the ideas of 1 & 2 (hyper joker is a bit excessive given the state still needs some level of functionality. The best "Monaco Fix" I've seen prior to this (there's been a spate of them) was on Josh Revell's channel, to bridge over the track and take the hairpin in the opposite direction. Search Josh Revell Solving Monaco's overtaking problems (kinda), it's the last suggestion in the video.

We could put some thermite at the bottom of the cars and run the races at night, can you imagine the sparks flying, the risk and the thrill of navigating Monaco lit with only the lights of the harbour on one side and the glittering landscape of the med on the other, procesional or not that's a race I wanna see
