Kept is the song that reminds me of a more humble and carefree version of myself. The version of me whom I miss deeply. I had just been through experiences with my gf that brought me close to death and shattered my ego. I was fighting all my self inflicted demons hard and it broke me when I lost that fight. I was accepting the heavy losses I had endured after losing friends and watching my suicidal girlfriend become increasingly distant as she lost herself to her own demons. I became disillusioned with myself and for the first time in my life, even though I lost more than I gained, I had finally felt a sense of clarity of who I really was. Life was easier and my parents were still together, and everything made so much more sense back then. But time has passed and relapses to old addictions have taken hold of me faster than I expected. My own mind has grown more aggressive and self criticizing towards me because I hate the person I've become since then. I hate myself for undoing most of the progress I made in that fight three years ago. I still think about her. I miss her.
