A "Contract" is a binding legal document, put a lien against his home for amount unpaid, plus 20% for legal fees. Being a so called "contractor" himself, he knows what's coming. Don't allow him to get away with anything.

I'm a drywall contractor, and I've been doing drywall for over 40 years. My brother asked me to look at a patch job with him. Water damage on a ceiling. Someone tried fixing it before. When I walked into the house, the elderly woman said that she could see it in her sleep. I turned around and walked back outside. I told my brother that I didn't want anything to do with that job. He asked why? I told him if she could see it in her sleep, we could never satisfy her. He didn't listen to me. He went and fixed anyway. He never got paid for his work and was also stuck with material bill. You and your men did an awesome job on the slab! We have to watch out for the so-called religious ones and the rich ones.

very true i was in the music scene and got a bit popular underground, about 17 yrs ago a guy in california was basically trying to online bully me and threaten me. he did this for 5 yr straight and i just kept blocking him. eventually after 17 yrs he finally got as popular as i was 17 yrs ago and toured to one of my local clubs where i knew the entire staff, and my friend was the person who booked him. although such a long time had passed i confronted him and tried to ask to put everything behind us, the guy got a attitude and before he finished even yelling at me i pushed him really hardto get enough distance to swing at him and busted his nose wide open. he had to go in theback room and walk past the crowd and sit with the other musicians trying to get his nose to stop bleeding. it humbled him pretty quick. i realize its petty at the age of 43, but hey, whatever lol

40% is nuts. Please hold that abuser accountable - he owes 100% plus every change order (rebar, rebar chairs, the upcharge on the 4500psi concrete, the oiling the forms, the extra labor for the 4500 psi concrete (and mark up the labor even more for “last minute” change where you had to scramble to find them)). File and perfect your mechanics lien. Take him to court - preferably small claims, if your jurisdiction permits that. Hey, sorry to hear about this situation. As construction workers we all have to deal with these kind of people. Know it all you tube do it yourselvers, that have someone they know that has done this their whole life but is to busy to do their job. The kind of people that say," if you give me a good deal I have more work". The kind of people who title drop. Like " I'm an engineer, architect, doctor, or yes even a construction worker in whatever format. When people title drop I add 20%. No matter what. By them telling you that it is like a " I'm going to be an a-hole card". I love what I do. Our job is a difficult career, it never gets easier, every time you do the same task it's pretty much the same. The environment we work in isn't a controlled environment say like an office. Everything we touch, we have to make work for us, everything. I don't cast shade on others work. I've often had to tell homeowners " there's plenty of ways to skin a cat, that's their way, this is mine." Hey man, from what I can see you and your crew did a knock out job. But what do I know. I'm not a concrete guy, I leave that to the pros...you. continue doing your work with pride and integrity no matter what hiccups may arise, and that guy and people like him will be a fading glimpse. Good luck with everything.

I worked in the construction industry for almost 30 years and I agree with you , the was done properly . This is also the reason why I left the industry , because of customers like this guy .I had reached the point where I was debating wether I should bury people like this guy in the concrete , but I decided not to go to prison and leave the field instead . You do good work and the team you have seem very qualified ; chuck it off as a bad experience and let other contractors know not to deal with this piece of work .

Man it’s a dangerous feeling when you reach that point. I’m a draftsmen with 23 years experience and when I would have to do job site visits (one in particular where they didn’t follow the plans at all but blamed it on us and wanted chargebacks). They didn’t count on us driving 3.5 hours to the job site the same day. We got there and they the erector company, decided to start cutting rafters. Well if they looked at the plan they would have seen they were just putting the ridged Frames together wrong. Thankfully we didn’t have to pay them anything. But I sure did think about making The foreman on that crew disappear when I kept telling me I was wrong. Then I show him and his crew that they were putting it together wrong…. Complete silence.

As a contractor myself, I have to admit that you did an amazing job. I find that sometimes, when I get a bad vibe from a customer, I will "over" quote, because I know it will be a difficult job. If I am wrong, and the customer turns out to be a good guy, I will give him a discount at the end of the job. 90% percent of time, I guess right.

I have never done concrete work but as a home owner I always watch the jobs closely and over the last few years I have learned many trades. Your company did amazing job and should be paid 110%. When I hire a company I request a written bidden agreement. Most company's here it's 30% upfront depending on job 30 half way threw 30 at end and 10 at inspection, any changes requested by owner should be an added charge and paid immediately. I agree when you get a bad vibe it's best to pull out. I have always tipped my workers and guess what I always get outstanding work. You don't need the home owner standing over you. Your work clearly shows your talent. I wish you locally to me I want a nice sidewalk to my swing in front yard.

Reputation is everything in business and you guys obviously go about everything in the best possible way without cutting corners to deliver the best job for a fair price. The guy knew beforehand that whoever got this contract was going to be given the hardest time possible no matter what. Unfortunately there are many people like him whom instead of looking at life with a positive and happy attitude they just focus on negativity and making as many people as miserable as possible in the process. Keep up the awesome work and more importantly keep smiling guys, even though smiles don't pay the bills. This content will bring you much more to be happy about in the future. 👌

There are people who will do whatever they can to not pay, or at least not pay the whole amount. You'll see the most experienced contractors understand that being more professional is more important than being friendly and nice. I've seen where they're friendly and nice while selling the job. Once the contract is signed, then they become more businessmanlike. Some clients take the initial friendliness as weakness. If the clients start trying to change terms, then you should also. Start asking for money upfront. If you're getting the feeling that they're going to try and stiff you -- tell them that you're getting that feeling. Get everything in writing, etc.
