+Goggles Tigerkhan The way I see it, recreational hunting is fine so long as you actually make use of whatever you kill (kill a rabbit or a deer? Don't leave it to rot, make a nice roast out of it). (Red) Foxes are also considered one of the largest invader species in the world, so from my perspective, hunting them is a justifiable action, since there's no possibility of them being driven to extinction at the rate at which they're being hunted.

My aunt and uncle had a cabin (it recently burnt down). But I remember the area had tons of foxes and we'd see them all the time while there. But one particular incident happened where I was out in the back yard (the whole area is pretty much forest) reading a book and I heard a noise. I turned and a fox came from out behind a tree and we both winced at seeing each other. We stared at one another for a while, the fox unmoving as I sat there with my book. Her eyes quickly turned but it seemed like she was fairly calm, without a care in the world...However, within a second she bolted towards our picnic table, jumped on top, and grabbed an entire package of hotdogs that were supposed to be cooked on the fire for dinner. I said "Hey!" and jumped up but she ran quick and bolted down to the front yard where the small cement road was. I just shook my head in disbelief over how she stole an entire package of hotdogs and didn't just take one that was sticking out from the open pack. She had a feast that night.

If foxes are acting nicely towards humans could it be possible to domesticate them and be able to turn them into a new type of companion like a dog?
@Akaryusan10 років тому
actually it has been done with a type of silver fox in Russia. originally it was done as an experiment to see just how humans where able to domesticate wolves and turn them into dogs the scientists separated the foxes into two breeding groups aggressive foxes and friendly foxes. after a few generations the friendly foxes started enjoying and seeking human interaction they even grew floppy ears. the aggressive foxes however had to be approached carefully and with some sort of protection to prevent from being bitten. as for there temperament theyre independent and clever like a cat but friendly and playful like a dog but don't treat them as if theyre completely domesticated they still have a bit of a wild streak to them.
@Anglo-Saxon910 років тому

+pierre morissette As tempting as it is, you really shouldn't feed wild animals. It makes them accustomed to humans, the next time that fox sees a human hunter he'll think "hey that guy might feed me" and will end up becoming a pelt.
@skoda108 років тому
+Janine Henschel actually, when wild animals puts aside their instincts and comes close and acts all friendly they have rabies or some other disease, probably can't hunt food for itself.

they are domesticated silver foxes in Russia. its been happening for 50 years. they have different patterned fur like those of a dog or they can look like wild ones. they are affectionate like dogs and they resemble a bit like dogs. some are shorter with floppy ears or curly tails but most of them still have the pointy ears and stuff. but its not legal in most states to own a fox so. I vote for all states to make owning a DOMESTICATED fox legal!
@letrebuchet60988 років тому
+flamenphoenix1915 You are confusing "trained" with "domesticated," the latter meaning able to live harmoniously in an all-human environment. The modern wolf cannot be domesticated because it has ample food in the wild and needs a large roaming territory. Ancient wolves were never domesticated by humans. The first dog skeletons have been found in the remains of 15,000-year-old settlements after the last ice age, when humans were completely obsessed with survival and animals were either edible or would eat you. The sly wolves saw this as a once-in-an-eon opportunity and began to hang out nearby to feed on the copious leavings humans could not digest. Thus, after many generations, they actually domesticated themselves into dogs when they became sociable enough to live with us. "Dogs That Changed the World" Nature, PBS.

we can tame about anything with enough time and effort,but shouldent we just allow most animals to stay wild? foxes are fine without us bothering them or helping them,dogs chose to rely on us a long time ago,foxes chose to remain independant. The idea of people taming all wild animals is scary to me because of all the animals we drove to extinction for no good reason,they were not taken out by natural selection,just destructive human tendencies. Were not responsible enough to have that much controll over so many animals,were the dominate species and look at whhat we did to our planet and are still doing to it...

right all animals want to be pets :l

true but there are many times where perfectly fine wild animals will be poached to be the pet of some rich douche or something :( animals taking advantage of things were clearly dogs...i dunno how wolfs became dogs who legitly love people want want to be with them its really interesting i mean cats dont need us and if they dont like us will leave while dogs seem to have a inherent want for some human interaction.

By befriending that Fox you're hurting it rather than helping it. It'll get too used to humans. What happens when he goes right up to a person whose not so nice and decides to kill it, or if it goes up to a child. It's hard to resist such a cute animal but it's in their best interest. If you want to feed them, leave the food where they can find it, not hand feed them. That way they don't associate humans with food. You're a good person for wanting to help.
@Bellicguy6 років тому
steph But we are animals as well.
@neponsetriver6 років тому

@jesusislord13876 років тому
Well foxes have extra senses and can sense aggressive people from afar.
@bigwilliearmitage6 років тому
Yes, their "extra senses" will protect them from friendly-looking humans who will then think it's funny to kick it when it comes near. Sure, those good ol' fox "extra senses"..
@statinskill6 років тому
bigwilliearmitage If you're too evil and twisted, animals pick up on that so I'm not worried about that. With your kind of thinking we wouldn't have pets. In fact we would probably still be sitting in huts made from mud, because we wouldn't have had the horse, donkey and the ox either, which are necessary in an expanding agricultural society for telecommunications, transportation and trade and of course in agriculture. We wouldn't have chicken, lamb, beef, pork, goose and duck either, and with that no wool, eggs, milk and cheese. And a diet without amounts of animal fats and proteins results in a weak population of feeble minded retards listlessly milling around with wads of leather tied around their crotches. Just think the British had to feed their malnourished conscripts proper meals with large amounts of beef for weeks before they were strong enough for basic training. Any such people who think like you would eventually have been kicked to the curb by people like me. People who just don't give a fuck.
@parisinthe30sx9 років тому
It's possible to domesticate them but that doesn't mean you should. Wild animals should stay wild. A Fox would not be happy stuck inside a house or fenced in enclosure. Which would you prefer, a cage or the wild? I personally don't agree with owning wild animals, it's just not right. No matter how happy you think they are, I'd wager they aren't.
@staticx769 років тому
peta nazi?
@parisinthe30sx9 років тому
No just person who has studied animal behavior for quite a while.
@staticx769 років тому
so you're a fox expert peta nazi then?........and with that retarded reasoning dogs and cats who were wild back then would'nt domesticated at this time!
@parisinthe30sx9 років тому
Youre an extremely rude person.I actually am not a fan of peta. And cats are one of the only species of animal to domesticate themselves without any human interference. The flaw in your attack is just that, dogs and cats are domesticated, foxes are not. If you're able to replicate a suitable habitat for it , as long as it was not taken from the wild, then i suppose it wouldn't be so bad. However,most people think they are able to live inside their homes happily, and its not true. Common sense is apparently something you lack.
@ardarra9 років тому
staticx76 Dogs who became domesticated (over time) were not subject to being locked inside modern homes and backyards. The domestication process is something that happened gradually as a mutual benefit to both humans and dog. Try 'learning' something before calling other people names for your own ignorance.
