I had the exact opposite experience, it's my least liked one. I liked the actual jokes, just didn't like Alan being drunk and overextending each joke forever.

It was great at the start but it got a little tried at the end when all the jokes took 3 minutes because of his antics.

They're not unconnected. When you tell a corny joke and the other person laughs, it makes you feel satisfied. But Abby's good at keeping a straight face, which makes Alan more desperate and say increasingly-ridiculous things... which causes him to break. He would never get to that point against Andrew or Matt because they would probably laugh at the first joke.
