I make 14 an hour but I only have one bill. House is paid for, water is free, no tv or internet, no phone, no subscriptions, no car, no debt whatsoever. I only spend about 3 dollars a day on food, I grow a lot of my food and have 5 pecan trees and 12 chickens. It's nice being able to spend 500 a week on whatever. I'm definitely fortunate, I know not everyone has the ability to live with such little overhead. But I do believe that the average person can definitely save on a lot, but they choose not to.

I think a lot of people are caught up in the rat race, They gotta have a nice car, a nice house, the new iPhone, name brand food, etc. Most people are $60k in debt before they have a stable income. It's sad that people are conditioned to handle their money this way. This is how they make you a financial slave.

Hello from Australia. I have been watching your videos before bedtime for a while. They are very soothing, very grounding. You are a lovely girl who understands that growing as a human being is not about making money, having many things and being 'successful'. You understand that life is all about inner growth, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically. A 'small' life is precious, it does not make the ego grow and it not based on craving and greed. Good for you. I am 78 years of and have travelled much, lived in other cultures but it is now that I am living a small and quiet life that I feel the love for the small precious things around me and inside me. Thank you for sharing your pure heart with us : )

I grew up with a frugal mom, so I also track my expenses in a household book to make sure I do not overspend and can maintain an emergency fund. When I buy produce that is damaged, like the avocado, it makes me sad since produce here in the US is also quite expensive and something like an avocado is a rare treat for me. On another note, nice of you to wear the hoodie that you got gifted. Looks nice!

This is my favorite episode. It was very interesting to get financial figures (such a personal topic) from someone in a different country. I think it's a topic many people wonder about but never ask about. Thank you for sharing! The second reason I love this episode is because of Lou C.'s commentary on why she donates to charity. It really touched me. I teach elementary school children (primary grades) to many impoverished children in the United States. Her story about poverty, determination, and studying hard to achieve one's dreams is something I will definitely share with future students. Very inspirational - Thank you!

@@mac9954 It is entirely up to her. How come you assume everyone´s dream is being married with children? The world has come a long way since 1950.

@@mac9954why don’t you get married and have kids and be miserable? You men need to stop telling women what to do, you control freaks.

Very interesting video, I liked seeing the comparisons on food prices between Japan and UK. You are very organised and your apartment was spotlessly clean!👍

Wow, as an American my whole life, I would have never ever imagined I would see an ear of corn thrown into a soup and eaten off a spoon. That is a culinary culture shock to me! ☮ from Kentucky.

Well,as a South East Asian it was a cultural and gastronomical shock to watch Americans eating raw beans or cauliflower florets, or eating canned food! And when I see kids with their parents wasting food… my eyes get 😢

Hi, Lou C. Thank you for sharing your life in Japan with us here. I saw the orange sweat shirt with "Cape Cod Mass", and it made me smile. I grew up on Cape Cod, and my 3 daughters all live there still. I wish you well and I look forward to seeing more videos from you. Best regards, Michael

JUst came across your channel. My wife is from Cebu btw. 51 and we've been married about 10 years. You are leading a very simple life in Japan. Very simple. At 61 I sold my company and retired and it's been hard for me to slow down: even after unplanned triple bypass surgery. Envy your ability to be happy with a simple life.

Thanks for you interesting insight onto Japanese food and shopping. I love to see what people cook in other countries. We traveled to Japan in 2019 and we found the food to be of the highest quality. And as I love see food, i was very happy to find fresh Sashimi 🍣 everywhere. We also loved the food in your 7-Eleven shops. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 🦘
