I think this has put an end to people saying things like "Medvedev's been figured out". I'm impressed that he won the Finals and even more impressed with who he beat. He made Djokovic look normal, turned the tables on Nadal and made a comeback, then wore down Thiem. I mean, how often do you see a players doing those things to those guys?

Perhaps the best strategist on tour right now. Thiem and Nadal are horrible matchups for Medvedev, but still manage to beat both. Medvedev seems to predict the opponents play much better than anyone on tour

Nadal is not a bad matchup tbh, thiem is. In fact it was a really close match, even tough thiem wasted many important chances on set 2. Then medvedev started playing better while domi dropped his level.

@@michelegavelli2479 nadal can blow Medvedev off the court with his forehand+ volley. Only problem with nadal is weak serve. It’s his serve that let him down against Medvedev. If he had a bigger serve, he would have won. Medvedev is a good returner as well. The worst possible matchup for Medvedev is Federer in my opinion since he has bigger serve than nadal and has too many variation. On the other hand Medvedev loves playing against someone like djokovic. He counters Nole’s game really well

@@nicolaswhitehouse3894 I do not completely agree. Now that nadal is more offensive than ever, he could be a threat, otherwise no imo. Defensive players usually beats other defensive players if they have a better serve. Federer is a terrible matchup tho. Big serve, slice backhand, good volleys and drop shots... too many variations that could hurt medvedev. Same with big hitters like thiem, Stan, opelka, Anderson. They could blew him off the court. I think medvedev just suffers big hitters and players who use a lot of variations. Against all the others, he pretty much has a slight advantage.

@@michelegavelli2479 nadal has still a 3-1 lead. You could say that two other match’s could have gone to Medvedev win. But their last meeting, nadal weak serve let him down. The vast majority of baseline rallies nadal wins against Medvedev in the first two sets, with his offense. But I don’t think nadal is a defense player anymore imo, he is an offensive player, but his weak serve really is a problem against Medvedev

While watching Medvedev's game against our awesome Theim, i thought his incredible anticipation tennis game was unique to his knowledge of Theim's game play but it seems he plays really intelligent tennis normally. He makes often makes the right guesses of where to put the ball more often than not. Amazing.

Tom Van Rijn, it was rather interesting to observe his final win reaction against Thiem, agreed. I would love to have been able to listen to what was going through his mind when he gave his reaction on his last win point against Thiem. No enthusiasm showing significant relief and joy. I like that though. Why? Because it teaches us to accept the different ways players celebrate. I like to think of his reaction as one of respect for Thiem so to not rub it in his face for losing. Med has grown in maturity over the past year and I admire anyone for taking on the challenge for personal growth. Ahhh! Life certainly is interesting isn't it? Of course, Medvedev has his grand slam final, something that Davy couldn't do, but Davydenko's succesful career is undeniable: 21 titles and only 7 finals (his winning record on finals was amazing). So I'd rank Safin, then Davy and Medvedev. Of course, Daniil will surely surpass Nikolay and probably even Safin to become the greatest russian player of all time. I hope so.

Seriously the most awkward looking strokes of any top player I can recall. Every second shot looks like he's either going to mishit or that it is mishit. If it wasn't for him standing with and sometimes defeating Rafa, Djoko, etc that it would be believable that he is as good as he is. Truly unique and enjoyable to watch.

He might win multiple slams... specially in hard courts, if he manages to improve his dropshots I see no way for other players to beat him, he's way too unpredictable, mentally solid and reads the opponent's gameplan like a book. World N° 1 coming soon for this guy

No way he becomes n.1 if he doesn’t improve on clay. He will become top3 for sure, maybe even second, but there’s too much tennis played on clay to become n.1 without earning many points there. But, guys, keep calm. Everyone says the same thing about the player who wins the atp finals, and then he starts playing badly. It happened with dimitrov, zverev and, again, with tsitsipas (who was average before covid).

Мне кажется и Жиль неплох...на одной волне с Даней...как и все ГЕНИИ.. у Дани очень сложный характер... когда Новак поменял тренера...вся его игра развалилась...а когда вернулся, то и результаты пошли....Вайда и Новак хорошая команда...

Nadal should have pulled it off in the 2nd set. But his one error proved costly. Medvedev pulling back after that was really special.

Amazing wins. Congrats to Dan the Man...Not surprised he was low key afterwards - once the adrenaline leaves you are left chilly and in shock. Besides there was no one but the coach there - no wife, no family, no fans, no personal friends. London is horrible right now. Can feel a bit of fool hooting and hollering in front of empty stands. I felt it was appropriate at end of season, thank God this year is over. And also notice the only other person to beat Thiem was another Russian, Rublev. Wishing he and Mrs. M the best holiday ever in Moscow at Christmas with your mom and dad - celebrate then.

And look how "Rafael Claydal" was the only one who could have really beaten Daniil as he was 1 game away from winning, while "the best on the planet, on hard" Djokovic only took 6 games 😂😂

@@12OclockLow yep, there are favorable and unfavorable mafchups, but I don't really think anyone expected Djokovic to win only 6 games against Medvedev, he was the main favorite before the start of the tournament 👌

@@12OclockLow Agree the most difficult matchup for Medvedev is someone with a lot of offense who can hit by him, which Djokovic cannot do right now

I think Djokovic had a hard year and finally it took some emotional toll on him. He will be back to normal next year

I think right now its very close between Nadal, Thiem, Djokovic and Medvedev. This week, Thiem and Medvedev were the best. Very little separates them. Both beat Nadal and Djokovic to reach the final, and their match was ridiculously close as well. Behind them Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev and Sinner. We'll see next year wether the older top layers fall behind the younger ones. I'm also very curious in what form Federer will come back. Still can't count him out.

@@el3xg373 I feel like the time has come for the "next gen" to become the current gen. I'd like to see Medvedev, Thiem, Zverev, Tstitsipas et al dominate the tour next year. I think these guys could be the next Big Three/Four.

@@Anon-nv7bp I have the feeling that in time, Thiem and Medvedev will be seriously dominating. Tsitsipas, and especially Zverev, won't be on that same level.
