Was honestly worried for Thiem leading up to this. Medvedev THRIVES on long rallies, he has excellent shot tolerance and wonky af strokes that are very awkward to deal with.
@azazello17842 роки тому

Thiem was quite genius with incredible finesse in this match. The way he was varying between the extremely precise slices and surprising forehands was wonderful, helped him change the whole pace of the game abruptly and therefore dominating the match. This was one of his best forms EVER.

Are you kidding? This match was a one-sided beatdown in which only one player turned up. The final had much more drama although only one player turned up at a time
@DeepSeas..3 роки тому
I’ll take a one-sided beat down over a garbage final where NEITHER player showed up. The only part of the final I enjoyed was watching Zverev’s pathetic serves barely drop in. Pure comedy
@viksinha54103 роки тому
@@DeepSeas.. Do yourself a favor and watch the fourth and fifth set again. Only the first two sets were awful.
@DeepSeas..3 роки тому
@@viksinha5410 What’s funny is that I’m specifically referring to the last couple sets. The entire match was pure garbage, including the last two sets where both of them seemed determined to not win the match with ridiculous errors, standing 500 feet behind the baseline (even on pathetic second serves), and serving below the level of junior girl (and I’m not even kidding, the serves were seriously that awful).
@viksinha54103 роки тому
@@DeepSeas.. The fifth set tiebreak, you mean? Yes, because the players were tired asf. Anyone would be after playing that long!

Dear US Open Tennis! Thank you for releasing these excellent highlights! To make them even better I would like to suggest to include all the big points, regardless of beauty/ugliness of the point's play. Eg. in this video, second set rebreak by Thiem is missing. As a great Tennis fan and mediocre Tennis player, I'm also interested in how the players deal with such situations. Thank you!

This was already hard to win for Thiem. Medvedev is smart, patient and has the safest ground strokes - not too short and almost always in. You can only beat Medvedev with offense weapons that work. Thiems backhand was in this match unexpectedly a killer.

Federer would give up his left nut for that backhand.

Underrated match because it was straight sets. I don't know how many great matches get overlooked that way - Fedovic 2011 AO, Rafole 2011 Madrid-Rome, Rafole 2012 Rome, Chung-Djokovic 2018 AO. The level from both players was more consistent than the final, and was higher too. Fearhand being the major difference. Casual fans need to know this about Thiem & Wawrinka-their forehands are their best shots, not their backhands. Thiem arguably has the best forehand in the sport right now. (His deep return positions really matched up well with Medvedev's big first serve. I didn't think he'd break Medvedev so often, but I overlooked that peculiarity of his; it's better than Medvedev's deep return cos of superior racquet head speed)
@notsohandytim50903 роки тому
Caleb: Underrated by who? Anyone watching could clearly see this match was brutal from every angle.

Taking nothing away from Thiem, but Medvedev will look back at this and be upset with himself and should have been up 2 sets to 1. Can't get broken serving for the set, not once, but twice! And then when you have 5 break points to re-break you don't convert. That's brutal.
