Trying to decide between the Dead Air Mask and Rugged Oculus? It’s all about the details.
@Keep_It_Loaded wanted to know, so here you go! Give his channel some love too!
I should add that the Oculus baffles are machined to stick together for a better gas seal from the tube, but are tougher to take apart.

4 month & waiting still dead air mask 😷. Huxwrx 762 took 11 months. 👻 boooo. Sig mod x 45 took 10 months. Rugged is definitely 👍 top 3 brands I’d recommend for any caliber suppressor. Rugged warranty & performance 🎭 is a win. 🥇

I feel for you. Seems like the new fast forms must have started around the first of the year. Trusts take a little longer too because an expert has to read through them and make sure they’re valid. Any wait is worth it. I’ve been through so many over the years, some almost taking a year because I bought them during a buying rush like elections, bogo’s, tax returns etc. I could see wait times growing and shrinking following them back on these things because I was buying about one a month. Speaking of BOGO’s, I’ve been waiting since August for SilencerCo to send my Omega 300 to my dealer, then an ATF wait. I know the last time they did one they expected 8000 or so but wound up with 15,000 BOGOs. I’m guessing they doubled that this time.

Thank you! Pew Science has a lot of information, but I don’t think these two suppressors are on there yet. That website is good for decibels and back pressure differences. I look at manufacturer websites for lengths and weights. Reviews are good and I like UKposts videos and peoples comments, but take everything with a grain of salt. I’m being honest with my experiences with everyone and really every 22 LR suppressor is going to be good, it’s the little differences that make the right one for you ;)

Awesome video! Don’t know if there’s much of a difference at all. In fact, they seem to have the same tone. But, if I had guess, maybe the Oculus, by a decibel or two. I have the Mask coming soon, and already own the Sparrow. But, now I think I’m going to have to get the Oculus next

Thanks! My phone recording doesn’t do the best, but your speakers might be right! 22 LR guns are awesome for suppressing and the cost of the ammo is the best compared to other calibers. I can’t wait to pick up another host for my Oculus, probably a binary one :)

@RangeToyz
@RangeToyz 2 місяці тому
These were the very first shots out of the Mask. I got a deal on the Oculus because the person that got it from my dealer sold the gun he bought it for and the shop was good to keep it. I unscrewed the module to look inside and it had a bit of a faint haze with some granules, like micro sand pieces, the type I’ve seen in my 9mm suppressors. Barely used was a surprise, but totally worth it. I know my Octane 9 runs quieter with a couple mags of 22LR through it after a cleaning. However many rounds, they really did sound the same, decibel and tone wise with subsonic ammo. The difference in the supersonic ammo was a good balance because some of the ones that went subsonic happened back to back with both guns and you could hear different levels of bang, sonic crack or pftt.
@DeathByLego
@DeathByLego Місяць тому
Quick question for yall, I know they’re both basically the same quiet rating. My POI shouldn’t be able to change that much as I’m not shooting super super accurately. Now, honestly I dig the look of the Mask waay more. But according to Reddit, their customer service sucks standalone, completely sucks compared to Rugged. Is the Rugged being modular really all that “better”?
@RangeToyz
@RangeToyz Місяць тому
First off I think Dead Air customer service has been great at least for me. I have two GEN 1 Nomads and as you know, those baffles came misaligned because they were designed like that. Talking with the engineer, they thought it would perform better but didn’t so much and sounded better when they were aligned with subsonic rounds. I asked customer service if I could send both in and get my baffles aligned. They let me do this for free and shipped it both ways for free. I’m sure a lot of people did it, and it cost them a lot of money to do. They basically cut off the baffles and gave me a new stack and refinished the cans. I also launched one of my Nomad L’s using an ASR mount, but probably wasn’t paying attention when I transferred it from another gun hot and didn’t attach it properly. They did the same free fix for that and turn around for both was probably less than two weeks. Dead Air has used different manufacturers, let go of some, and they don’t like to badmouth any because that’s not good style. I’m sure transferring the warranty Sierra 5’s from one machine shop to another along with countless other materials has been a logistical nightmare. It’s too bad when something needs to be warranted you can’t just start from scratch and give a new serial number. Gossip spreads easy and is toxic. I’m with you on the looks weight and length of the Mask. The baffles are easier to take apart and clean as well. I’ve bought a few modular cans, and so far, I always kept them in the long configuration. If you ever had a problem like a baffle strike with it, the baffles are easily replaceable. Go with your heart, and what you like.
@DeathByLego
@DeathByLego Місяць тому
@@RangeToyz I like the sleeker/blending look of the Dead Air more but online is filled with issues regarding their customer service and some about their warranty. So I’ll probably “settle” on looks for the Oculus for their CS/CW assurances. I appreciate the input! I’ll probably pop back here if I have any issues down the line
@RangeToyz

Have you shot the Resistance. 22 with the wipe?
@RangeToyz
@RangeToyz 2 місяці тому
I actually have one on my Ruger Precision 17 HMR. The wipe is still new. I bet it’s crazy quiet, especially on a bolt action 22LR. I have a Wolfman and the wipe only lasted about 15 rounds. I’m not really into replacing them so often though. I haven’t used one since. I bet a wipe would deflect a 22LR bullet pretty easy too, but it would be a great experience :)
@de629
@de629 2 місяці тому
@@RangeToyz With the wipe and mounted on a 22/45 you can thumb the bolt close and its extremely quiet and the wipe lasts a long time. On my Wolfman I'm not going to bother with wipes, mine was gone after a few shots. It's a poor design and doesn't allow the material any room to flex.

@@user-rx4yb1db4v omg! I feel for you! You should get a reward like the next stamp for free!!! I recently heard that the FBI was streamlining the NCIS system. They had a backlog of 60,000 at Shot Show. My recent forms also showed “digitally signed by a qualified agent”. The ATF might have streamlined some things as well. The funny thing was when I got my first can it took 60 days to process. But the rugged obsidian i.m.o. was definitely worth the wait it is heavy but with sub sonic ammo it's like Hollywood quiet and I got a reasonably priced sonic cleaner and 1 hour in there with the heat and the baffles are shining like new plus it works on my 9mm as well as my 45acp just change the piston and front cap.

@RangeToyz
@RangeToyz Місяць тому
That’s awesome! I usually have two of my Spectre ii’s on here so they are twins. Bought them years ago like you. The only difference after three shots is the length and weight between the Spectre ii and Oculus when I just tried them. The Oculus is about 1” shorter and 0.1 ounces lighter, but my Spectre ii should be cleaned and might weigh the same. I actually bought three Spectre ii’s years ago because I thought they couldn’t get any quieter and still not have first round pop. Well I guess most still sound the same but they did get shorter and the Oculus is modular. I only tried the Oculus because it wasn’t on another host yet. Guess it might be up to you if you want to change something up. What do you think?
