Never knew female circumcisions too existed. It's so shameful that such practices are allowed to be carried out. Clitoris being a part with a very rich nerve supply, the pain induced is beyond imaginable. Such horrid acts must be condemned.

I am a female who have read about the act of female circumcision, I knew it has existed and that is downright stupid and inhumane. But never in my life have i seen or heard a person sharing an account of their experience, the moment she said the word clinic, my stomach churned and as she was talking about the pain i could feel it emotionally and my legs felt like jelly. My hands started to tremble, the female voice in grew softer and was helpless. What progress has a country made or what has education taught us when such rotten to core acts still exist??

I came to know about this through my daily newspaper when I was in highschool. I remember I was so shocked back then when I read the stories of the women who had to go through this. There was this one story of a woman, when she was a kid her grandma took her to a lady and she did it on her with a hot knife.Some of them stated that it sometimes even affects their sexual life later on. I literally got goosebumps and felt so uncomfortable thinking about it when I was reading the page. I even discussed about it with my classmates and they were shocked too. I'm glad that these women are standing up against it so this horrible practice could be abolished. I respect other ppl's culture and traditions but this practice is just inhumane and a crime against children.

How can an educated mother do this to her own child? Doing this means a woman's body is only suppose to bear children. It's a shame!!!!

I have been married for more than a decade and myself and my wife came to know about this few years back. Its mostly practiced in Indonesia, Malaysia and very rampant in parts of Africa too. Its an old tribal ritual what I have understood and nothing to do with any religion.

Most of us are hearing this for the first time and it is happening in our country for years. I am devastated knowing that how can this is never considered as a big issue to bring into light and stoped immediately? Cannot even comprehend how many other evil practices must be going around us and nobody knows and cares. Before government take action, everyone in that community who understand the seriousness of this, like her, should try to make people realize the need to stop this so that some girls might get saved.

It's really surprising for me that these are happening in India. As a NE I grew up seeing girls having rights equal to men in my state. I never really thought practices such as cutting a girl's clitoris is going on in our country. I was even saddened after hearing the harthras case which happened a few months ago. I consider women and men equal and I want to see this in the whole country. A question to the people who still practise such culture Do you cut of men's testes as well? Plus I wanna know is there any more difference between circumcision and getting the labia majora chopped?
