This month I have switch back to my perferd paints, scale 75, to get this level of colour with citadel, especially on the armour, replace
Brown leather: Mournfang brown/Rhinox hide 60:40
Walnut: baneblade brown.
Birtch: Ushabti Bone or wraith bone
dark forest green: Caliban Green
Sherwood green: Elysian Green
Deep Red: Kohrne red or mephiston red
Aldebaran Red: Wild Rider Red
White Sand: Screaming Skull+ white 50:50

Give it a try, you can use the exact same method just be careful with the opacity of the pure black layer you'll likely need to dilute more then this. Then just choose a colour to highlight up with, a blue would be traditional, but you could also mix in more Brown to get a warmer black 😁

I'm not a big fan of this messy style of painting. The result generally looks overly busy. I know Richard Grey pulls it off with his insane painting skill but for most people it just doesn't work IMO. I put this trend of scratch painting into the same category as the UKposts painter trend a little while back of making black armour look blue in every paint job. It will go away. It's hard to compete with a beautiful smooth airbrush paint scheme with edge highlights and a bit of volumetric shading. Saying that, edge highlighting is absolute cancer so I understand why people are trying to get a decent paint job without doing it.

You'd be supprised at the amount of people who start off with a lot of the bush movements and sketchy style painting in here but take it in a different direction of smoothness instead. Unfortunately thats not the most beginner friendly. I feel there is a lot you can learn, especially on a free model in terms of brush control and thinning paint by painting in a sketchy style like this. It won't win you any competitions for painting that's for sure leaving it at just this stage, but you'll gain a lot in your skills as an artist. Edge highlighting is indeed hell! Appreciate the feedback, and don't worry the next MotM will be a different style but it'll depend what the mini is 😁
