Chinese giant “Big Bang” Zhilei Zhang (26-2-1, 21 KOs) has been chosen to represent Queensberry in the second heavyweight encounter. Interesting development. You can see why it has happened. The heavyweight division has struggled in the USA for a long time, likely due to the draw of the NFL. The US boxing establishment needed a HW champion so they protected Wilder. The illusion played out for a while but ultimately he was illegitimate. Now the HW big bucks are elsewhere and Wilder has no one to look after him at home. Personally, I would love it if he beats Zhang. It would give his career some substance and set up some great potential fights. Good luck to him

That’s American exceptionalism nonsense. The NFL and NBA have existed for decades but American dominance at HW started to slip when Lennox Lewis took over and since the former Soviet countries have been allowed to fight pro America hasn’t been dominant in any weight classes outside of 147 and 154. The US doesn’t have a single world champion above 160lbs. It’s a global sport now where as pre 1991 is was the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and Japan.

@@boxtradums0073 I really do think the NFL has an impact now. If you're a big athletic guy in the states you're better off pursuing the NFL where there are literally 1000s of mega paying positions. In boxing you have to be one of a very small elite to earn comparable money. It's no coincidence that Wilder played football in college. Breazeale came from football as well. I'm not American by the way, so I'm not making excuses.

@@chrisbirch4150 it’s just not true because the NFL and NBA have always been there. You then have to ask why are the no American champions from 160-200 because NFL and NBA players are a lot bigger than someone who is 175lbs. The former Soviet fighters changed the game for ever.

@@boxtradums0073 if you disagree, you disagree 🤷 but I just think it's a major factor. The NFL has been around a long time but it is a commercial monster now. I look at someone like Riddick Bowe and I think if he had been born twenty years later, there's no way he wouldn't have been a linebacker or something. Regarding the lower weights. It's not an exact science. Once you go below HW they trim down to make weight. If a light heavy guy or even a super middle was in the NFL they would have a totally little different build. Most of the defensive players in the NFL are chunky because they can be. They're not all natural HWs. But once you get down to the real MW(and lower) area, USA still churns out superstars. Crawford, Spence, Haney, Boots, Charlos, Tank, Shakur and that's just right now.

@@chrisbirch4150 look at the dimensions of the players in the NFL they are all over 6ft tall. 135-154 is stacked with Americans but nowhere else is and none of them are real superstars. The biggest draw in American boxing is a Mexican. The 3 biggest stars globally are 2 Brits in Joshua and Fury and then a Mexican in Canelo. You could probably put Inoue just behind them too. Also when you factor in that most of the athletes of equivalent size are the size of football players (soccer). Football has a much higher participation level than NFL or NBA. While it mate be a slight factor it isn’t massive. The U.S. dominated when it was one of a handful of countries that boxed but now it’s clear as day it’s a global sport. Andre Ward was the last American to win a gold medal ffs Team GB has won more golds in the same amount of time. It’s a great thing the sport is now global but let’s not act like America is inherently the best at boxing.

In the USA your promoters have held back boxers and have not been able to deliver the big fights to make generational wealth, you guys are still using the slave master model of promoting fighters. @@hawkermustang Nah! It is all down to which comments are displayed to 'YOU'. BTW I've witnessed this myself, when discussing comments with my son. What he saw, was different to what I saw. Similarly, I've watched (live) views suddenly being stopped from recording, even though views were actually taking place. Whether that was due to human intervention, I don't know, but I strongly suspect that it was. However, the comment display will be driven by our own specific algorithm identity (ie. How you are categorised). Everything is modifiable. A channel can be doing well, then suddenly it's videos no longer make the 'push list'. A channel can suddenly find it's videos demonetised, for no apparent reason. Sadly, we are powerless :(
