I regret I never appreciated how magnificent this song was back when it was new, so entralled I was with Enjoy the Silence and Personal Jesus. But 30 years on I think this may be the best of the whole album. There is nothing else like it. It is four and a half minutes of whatever ten levels above sublime is.

Martin's vocals in the background give me chills every time. And those strings.

Dave Gahan doesn't need muscles to be the strongest man in the universe. He just needs words. That's the message here.

As a promotional single, this track should have gotten a lot more exposure. Unfortunately, it failed to chart. This is one of Depeche Mode's best tracks to come out of their 1990's music catalog.

Didn't appreciate Depeche mode in the 80s and 90s. Now 20 some years later I lived them. Can't get enough of this sound.

That bass synth in the intro is a killer

This song literally saved my life back in high school, especially the chorus. In your darkest moment, when even the world itself is falling apart around you, even when it's your own damn fault ("though we may deserve it...") just hold on and know IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

I know a lot of Depeche Mode's music videos were filmed in California. This song was filmed at Griffith Park, in 1990. A few days before their two day concerts at the Dodger Stadium. I remember my friend at the time, told me she saw them in concert there. Also, it was hot because it was in August.

I thought it was cute seeing Martin together with this girl and her liking him in the end, I also felt Fletch and Alan weren't given much to do and seem to be the side characters while Martin and Dave were the main characters.

In my humble opinion, one of the best songs ever, not only by DM. So happy to see them again on the tour next year, yet so sad that without Sir Andrew Fletcher.

Dave gahan was very brave to take part in this clip, it's somewhat comforting and refreshing to see that even men with worldwide fame and millions in their bank account can still be skinny, it feels that men who aren't ripped lack representation in social media and Hollywood, and it's taking it's toll on young men.
