But Martin writes most of the lyrics :P
@winternightmarecrochet
@winternightmarecrochet 4 роки тому
But the songs Martin sings by himself, such as A Question of Lust just sound more personnal and deeper, anyway, in my opinion, because it's true to him, it's felt, and he delivers that so well to the public. Dave Gahan may be an amazing vocalist, one of the best on the planet, even, but it somewhat shows that he doesn't identify with the message as strongly as Martin does. Still very emotional, yes, just not on the same level.
@butternutcrunch
@butternutcrunch 4 роки тому
No, the "message" here is all about Saturn worship which is actually just Satan worship. The image of Saturn with the words Strongest Man in the Universe around it indicate this. Google Saturn worship.
@skimmilkm
@skimmilkm 4 роки тому
I interpret the song as Dave trying and failing to get a married woman to love him, with the Strongest Man In The World title obviously being a lie that he's telling her, as if Dave is only saying "though our worlds my fall apart and the walls start crumbling in though we may deserve it, it will be worth it" to act tough to cover up his loneliness.

I like it but it's got to be one of the goofiest videos I've ever seen. The band isn't even trying to make this serious. The whole thing is silly/dopey in an ironic way. But hey: it's still fun. I'm not expecting Great Art from a 4:29 video.

@@Fapswitch This was one of the most artistic works put out by DM and Anton Corbjin! The whole story was carried out visually, with zero vocal or audio help, other than the lyrics of the song. It's actually a very sweet story about the strongman's girlfriend leaving him and a life of relative luxury to go and be the clown, with whom she fell in love with, regardless of his lack of fame or wealth. Re-watch it now and tell me if you can't see the story played out.

@@alishaallen3745 It's really a look at the whole human condition. Life is a circus we try to perform our best to attract and keep a mate but it doesn't always work out. It doesn't matter how much we have or try to do. We end up losing the one we love. But in the end it just matters if the other person is happy or not. You don't want to keep somebody if they aren't happy.

I know a lot of Depeche Mode's music videos were filmed in California. This song was filmed at Griffith Park, in 1990. A few days before their two day concerts at the Dodger Stadium. I remember my friend at the time, told me she saw them in concert there. Also, it was hot because it was in August.

Dave gahan was very brave to take part in this clip, it's somewhat comforting and refreshing to see that even men with worldwide fame and millions in their bank account can still be skinny, it feels that men who aren't ripped lack representation in social media and Hollywood, and it's taking it's toll on young men.
