I must say...Smith played this exactly right. He knew he didn't catch it, even though the ref called it good. And he knew if challenged it could get reversed. So hurry and snap the ball. But SF missed a huge chance. As soon as a receiver is calling to hurry up and get the ball snapped, you should know something is afoot. They should have thrown that challenge flag right away. Even your safety was signaling incomplete. Now I know they do that all the time to try and sway close calls, but that coupled with the receiver calling for a quick snap should have signaled a red flag. But that is just my opinion.

Honestly it looked like had Smitty kept going, he would have been able to catch it and run it in. I know as a reciever sometimes judging how the ball is gonna fall and if a defender can make a play on the ball or not is hard in real time. But if he kept facing the end endzone and let the ball hit em in the bread basket I don't think the defenders would have got there in time to break it up.

I forgot about it at the time but NFL's replay assist should've been able to overturn this. A challenge wasn't even necessary. So someone from league office screwed up. The 49er people can only see the broadcast replays and the FOX replay showing incomplete was after commercial. Why was Fox so slow not showing that camera angle? So the NFL and then Fox were bigger screwups than Shanahan.
