My mother passed away in September & as I was going through her storage, crying & mourning the loss of such an amazing person, I asked her for a sign that she knew how much I loved & missed her, as I was opening one of the last boxes. Right there on top, was the Rush star man concert t-shirt from the 2112 tour, my very first concert from when I was in junior high school. It was/is in pristine condition, since I must have only worn it a few times. Of course it’s about 3 sizes too small, but I knew right away that it was her way of giving me a hug. I had no idea she had kept that, or why she did. I used to drive her crazy playing their albums loud enough for the neighborhood to hear, (I mean it’s Rush, you gotta crank it!) But that made them even more special to me, than they already were, & that’s saying something because anyone who knows me, knows they’re my all-time favorite band. That t-shirt is now on a shadow box, hanging the wall of our game-room. When my BFF from back them, who went to that concert with me, as well as many more, called me & said “sweetie, I don’t how to tell you this, but Neil....”.... we both cried & tried to comfort each other, as though he were a close friend or family. That’s what it felt like. She & I both get it, while others may think we’re crazy for being so emotional about a rockstar whom we never actually met, but reading these comments, I’m so glad we’re not the only ones.

@Andrea R - listen to the song Afterimage, from Grace Under Pressure. It’s about the loss of a close friend of the boys. It’ll make you cry, and rock, and soothe your soul, all at the same time. It perfectly describes the feeling. I lost one of my closest friends-like a kid brother, really-in 1985, and it was the saddest moment in my life. Remember all of the times you had together, and cherish the random dreams when you will see him again. (Oddly enough, they have been very rare, for me, and it always feels like he was really there.) Also, I just had a thought: write down every memory you have, now, while they’re still fresh in your mind. I wish I had started a journal back then, because I have forgotten so many things over the years! And, talk about him, often, with your mutual friends, and encourage them to share their memories and stories, and write them down, also. Preserve your memories while you can! If you believe that there is more after this life, then maybe your hope will be like mine: some day, when I pass away, I want to see him walk out of the mist to welcome me, saying, “You’re always late...I’ve been waiting for you!” 😜 And, give me the warmest, heartfelt, and tears-of-joy and laughter-laden, bear hug ever! For a while, you will continue to be incredulous at each occasion in which he would’ve been there, and you will always miss him, but it will hurt less and less over time. Just keep listening to Rush-you’ll always have their music to remind you. Hope that helps a little bit. P.S. My buddies and I couldn’t bring ourselves to look closely at his body in the open casket, but we could see-from a distance - that he had on a t-shirt. He was a huge football fan, and my mom said that it was a Raiders shirt! He was, of course, a huge Rush fan, also! If my memory serves me well, we thought that, maybe, it was a Van Halen T-shirt! Rock On always, my brother, Mike O’Hern!! 🤗❤️🤘🏻🎸 🥁 🎹 🎤🎸🤘🏻

As I have aged along with my favorite Rush songs I have felt more and more each year this band's songs transcend our mundane day-to-day existence. Anyone laying down to rest in the Earth and accepting the final fate - with Rush laying across his chest - is a hero to me. I look forward to being one with Kevin somewhere, some day. Perhaps you and Kevin will reminisce together, and perhaps someday I may join the two of you for those fireside talks.

Lerxst could have been a very successful stand up comedian if the band thing never worked out. Neil is laughing at literally everything Geddy & Alex say because you can tell he's just excited to be around his buddies (I think this was filmed in California & they had probably not seen each other for at least a year) Great video, miss these guys.

Usually it is sad to see rockers in their older years ... a shadow of themselves. These men transcend that fate. Here they are travelers on a journey together, they have grown together - as if brothers-in-arms - over the years. They now accept who they are today as well as who they were yesterday. They belong in a Tolkienian story; this scene appears after our heroes endure many years of trials, tribulations, mutual peril, dark terror, and just as often times of pure kindness or beauty. Finally their journey has brought them to this very warm, cozy and lovely dinner to not just relive their glory days, but to share something deeper.

I felt like I was right there with them. This made me love them even more than I already did... Alex's mannerisms are so much like a dear friend of mine that I feel as though I really know him. Without question these three are the most genuine decent people in rock history.

@dgrundman74997 років тому
Seriously folks, have you EVER seen 3 people who have worked & lived together so closely in such a volitile environment for so many hours per day for 40+ years, get along this well, and so clearly, genuinely enjoy the others company so deeply? I never seen the members of any other band be so childishly playful and silly this late in both age & career. Seriously, I've never seen Keith & Mick, Frey & Henley, Queen, etc. display this level of mirth & happiness & mutual respect. What IS their secret? :-P Oh, and to guy that responded to my previous post, you're absolutely right, I really do have far too much time on my hands! :-)
@mcdaniels61887 років тому
it's quite refreshing for sure. They seem naturally at ease around each other. Although it helps when there's only three of you and everyone gets to share in writing royalties : )
@PokemonHaloFan7 років тому
I know what you mean. They are an extreme rarity when it comes to rock bands. Also not to mention they are still mentally and physically sharp. Unlike most their age who's bodies have been totally destroyed by all the drugs they did in their younger years.

I’m 20 years old in 2023 and I’ve been listening to rush as far back as i can remember from my dad playing an old vhs tape of maybe like grace under pressure live I really can’t remember but we were poor and rush kept us sane we got to see them in 2015 on their last tour rip Neil and good living to Alex and geddy definitely the biggest influences of my life
