A few days ago I posted a video describing my unique experiences with the Audi RS6. Let’s be honest: it created quite a shitstorm. At this point there are some misconceptions, lots of angry and harsh messages out there, which is the reason why I decided to make a follow-up video. This is not an apology or a make-up video, nor anyone from Audi has asked me to make it. And trust me, after reading “that” particular e-mail, while being covered in mud, dirt and shit from cleaning up one of the flooded basements, I was the most frustrated person out there. But I do believe that whoever decides to be frustrated, he or she needs to be frustrated at the right entity or person for the right reason.
In the last few weeks, I have received hundreds of positive messages from “Audi people” all over the world: employees, drivers, fans and customers when they saw what I was doing with the car and even more messages expressing their frustration about “that email”.
Since this whole thing revolves around and RS6, let’s talk about that for a moment: passionate Audi engineers developed a great product, skilled workers have assembled it in their factory, the press fleet department gave me a great car on short notice and everyone else loved it. Finally, “that email” that I have received, was a reaction to my email from one single person. It was not like the executive board of directors decided that in the name of Audi this was a bad operation and they asked someone from PR to reach out to me. Hence I don’t think Audi deserves this much hate as a company as a whole. I don’t think that many employees deserve to read many hateful comments towards the company they are proud to work for just because one person said something to me privately which I then briefly mentioned in one of my videos. And just for the record, there was no intention from my side to hurt the brand either, because then the way that video was constructed including contents, thumbnail and title would have been completely different.
After having said all of the above in Audi’s defence, I am obliged to tell you the full story. Then you must form your own opinion about the story’s players, either for the better or for the worse. You also all know that I am an advocate for transparency and honesty, hence not all the people may disagree with this approach. So here it goes.

BMW donated 1.5million, VW 1 million, Porsche 1 million, Mercedes 1 million (and they are sending many special offroad vehicles to support the german THW and german red cross), and Audi tells their employees to donated by themselfs and we just "top it off" to 6 figures.. well in my opinion the PR team of Audi has some serious problems.

Yeah and they will demand the money back from the german citizens. They´re not giving anything to the people! These are tax write-offs. We have federal elections coming up. ALL the relevant parties want to increase taxes, most of them by a huge amount! Do you think the car companies pay the same taxes as smaller or medium business? They get special treatments ;) It´s not their job to finance the rebuilding, it´s the job of the government. And the government leaves the people alone, but demands to get paid more and more for less and less service. The best the car makers can do is literally to provide cars for transportation, working and even housing (campers). They have enough cars sitting around because the factories need to run at full capacity, regardless of the cars being sold or not.

Ford really won this. This is the picture painted; A big group of capable rugged Fords getting the job done not afraid of getting dirty as opposed to the upper class selfish Audi who really has the ability but doesn’t not want to get dirty as it is beneath him. That is the narrative and it paints Audi in a bad light.

If Audi was smart they coulda used this to their advantage. This could have been PR/Marketing GOLD. They could have sent out a camera crew. And produced a well put together commercial of the RS6 racing the Nurburgring and juxtapose it to being used off-road in a ravished land helping people in need. “AudiTogether” “Quattro” “Born On The Track, Built For The Road” “#TogetherWithAudi” “Best Decisions Never Came This Easy” lol. Fair play to you for coming and explaining a balanced argument. Regardless of this, personally, I still feel this is PR blunder on Audi's part to the highest degree. Understandably, they don't want to have their shiny new RS6 press toy damaged as other outlets may need it - however, these weren't normal times. The Audi team could have shown a little more compassion given the circumstances, but again... it's all down to interpretation.

Email response from Audi was short, unprofessional and rude. That person saw wat Misha douing to help people and still decided to reply that way. Sitting in office is way easier than doing something to make a difference for people around. No matter what excuses they may have, it's still very poorly handled situation and missed PR opportunity for Audi. Not acceptable at all by any means. I don't agree on that. They gave him the car for testing/review purpouse only. They didn't send him a warning, while he used it on the track (forwhat they have to ask permision in advance). They had understanding when he used it in bad conditions (mud, storm, etc.), he even carried ppl etc, you can watch it on his video's. Then he asked an extention to use the car or he asked for another car and gave as reason his own car was broken. If I was the one reading the email, I wouldnt be happy about that. Even how much we all love Mischa, he is using the car like a rental and he had never asked to use the car of those things, I think Mischa was the one being very unprofessional. The last email from Audi conained the word 'flawless' which made him mad, but still they handled it professional, even if that last word was rude. I like Mischa a lot and I love watching his video's, but whenever I see something wrong, I'll say the truth. People all support him and blame the ppl from Audi for this situation, but I'm not going mix my emotions and think one-sided just because I am on his side or want to be on the popular side. This still was a professional agreement, and he asked for too many personal favours. They don't have to agree on that. Sad, but that's the reality.

Thank you for the more detailed explaination about this whole situation. I still believe that it was poorly handled on their part, even with what you were asking, a better answer from them, even negative, would've been preferable. Even with a really bad day, saying "I sincerely hope the car will be in flawless condition" is way out of line. Having worked in the automotive industry, I know that most (if not all) test vehicles are prototypes (and therefore can't be sold), and that some prototypes that are very close to production spec are used as press cars. A simple "This is a test vehicle, it can't be sold nor donated, even for charity" would've been understandable. Also, I understand how things like this (sometimes) work at large companies. Once a ball is rolling, it's like a train: hard to stop and very difficult to change course without planning ahead. Maybe this person was already over the edge earlier with the extension previously granted. Either way, huge screw up for Ford to be able to immediately swoop in and eat their lunch while this is happening in their home country.

Dear Misha, You sre always a most excelleng brand ambassador for Audi. And we all appreciate you for your great good will. I wanted to say before that the car is essentially a utility vehicle . . . to be used on the "estate"? And being with friends and helping friends, too. To which it has aquitted itself remarkably well. But you have said it so much better. I hope you will continue to work with Audi, so strongly and well.

AUDI has definitely missed an opportunity here, to show unity with the people. On top of that, the way the e-mail is written, they truly opened the channel for a shit storm and it does also leave some bad feelings associated to the Audi Brand with me. Misha, great video. Respect for leaving out personal feelings and bad emotions while providing transparency about this situation.

Misha..a very good and sensitive video. It is good to hear that Audi have reacted positively and supportively but I still get the impression that it is more a reaction than a proactive response which Ford had..here are 50 vans…bring them back as they are in about three months. Audi now are trying to rebuild their words but I still say that the person who wrote that email was totally out of touch with the situation and displayed an unacceptable lack pf understanding. People will move on..but my next car will not be an Audi. Keep up the good work…we are all impressed by what everybody is doing to help those who have lost so much in your area…it will be good to see the Ring reopen and to have update films on the rebuilding work that is to come.Richard in U.K.🙂🙂🙂🙂

Now that I’ve watched your video here Misha this is exactly how my thought process was in my condemnation of Audi at their PR email! Before I became an airline pilot I was in Biz in Germany w Toys R Us in Köln and Cracker Barrel restaurants here in US. So I understand biz and PR. Some of the points, especially the auction, is what Audi should have immediately thought about. Not this email. “Flawless condition” was unnecessary! You’re always finding the best in others is one of the reasons we love you Misha! Thanks for this video! @@theunheardprophet4315 great question. No you don’t! I was 43 when I got hired by my airline! I did buy my jets type rating that I wanted to fly. My Chief Pilot told me the only reason I got the job interview was because I had the type rating, so they knew they could train me. So buying the type rating paid for itself. It cost back then, 2004, $18,000. It’s more expensive now.

Misha, you delivered the message clearly and concisely. The RS6 has gotten very honest validation from you over the time you have used it. You have not abused it and would agree you used the car as an average Audi owner would under the circumstances. The RS6 was and is a trouper, a car you have really enjoyed. Overall, I agree that your latest communication with that specific person hopefully is a overreaction due to a bad day. Overall, you are doing for your community what you can with all the tools you have. Many persons have answered your call for help and that can be seen as nothing more than a great thing. I'm a fan of the channel in general, and kudos for your work helping others lately. With this being said, this is only an issue because you listened to it and feed it with replies. Nothing bad happened to the car, Audi didn't complain, they didn't raise any issue, and you said that you got tenths or hundreds of supportive messages. So why choose to pay atention to haters, frustrated comments and uninformed people.. You will have lots to reply to if you choose to pay atention to haters and the likes. Nice of you to make the video explaining in details the whole story. In my opinion this does not excuse by far the e-Mail, respectively the content that was sent. First and foremost we are all humans and this should be the one and only thing that matters. This type of „Person“ that wrote the e-Mail is probably trying to get the attention of his/her supervisor at any cost (by beiing aggressive and trying to put pressure when its not needed nor does the case imposes it). The stuff with the meeting, the coffe what you said is not an excuse.

Very informative video, and i do believe that here in germany, part of why these Audi-emails sound so "strict" is because there's ALWAYS insurance involved, in ANY kind of written contract, and since Misha did in our eyes good things with the RS6, there's a high chance of the RS6 getting damaged even so slightly by actions NOT being written in the contract. Which will then result in Misha (or his insurance) having to pay for repairs, which would be also a bad publicity. In the worst case, this would go to court, again bad publicity. To sum up what i have written here, is that i believe alot has to do with insurances and that might also be a reason why replies take so long to form. And it's great to see Misha thinking, "well maybe that guy sending that email had a bad day or moment and things can happen"

Hi Misha- I understand your post completly and think it‘s the right thing to calm down the emotions a bit But I must say from my point of the sight- a person who is working in PR of any company which has to have contact with „humans“ - this person has to use his brain first a then write or answer a email As I told two days ago-I canceld my order for a RS6 Now I had to take a lawyer to get back my money That is already paid for the car. Audi will not accept the canceling- I told them why I did. this That they already canceld the delivery two times doesn‘t interest them at all We will see how this ends Wish you all the best and have a nice weekend

Their lack of foresight and true support demonstrates what I have thought of them as a company for a long time. When I was buying a new car a few years ago I went into my local Audi and the customer service was so bad I didn’t even bother driving any of their cars. I ended up buying a Ford Focus RS instead and couldn’t be happier. Funny how Ford also came to the party in this situation here... Clearly Audi staff need a big lesson in what customer service means. Because it’s things like this that turn people like me off the brand for life.

You are right. When you put all emotions beside, it’s clear, that he didn’t use the Audi according to the contract. And he didn’t ask Audi for permission, to use the car for another reason. If he did ask Audi, maybe they would have sent him another car (or more than one) - who knows. Sometimes the test drive cars are not 100% stock, so obviously they don’t want THIS car been used for another reason

I just need to add this one: When we went abroad with our class back in school our teacher briefed us that we represent our country and people and what it stands for so we better all behave ourselves in a way it doesnt shine a bad light on our nation. A Golden PR-Rule we were taught when we were 10 years old. True words that I kept in me and teach my children as well. This PR guy should have had such a teacher too and he would maybe have understood the wider scope of what he was about to kick loose before hitting the "Send" button in Outlook. Misha, somehow I wished you had a damaged the car slightly, a 500€ bumper damage...Audi's reaction to that would have opened the look into Audi's soul....I mean, look what Ford said.

The message the public gets from the PR department to convey the company slogan: - If Audi's is Forwards With Technology, on the day the email was sent out the thoughts were "I am not currently human just a corporate clot, thinking of legality, not humanitarian aid". @markwright3161 2 роки тому
Length of an email obviously doesn't guarantee professionalism, but the fact Misha has to interpret what the lines mean, especially when talking about what the test car isn't to be used for. Are they saying that their test car is specifically set up for tracks or are they saying it can't be auctioned off? When multiple points are covered in a single email, the reply should address each point separately, in the order that the email they receive covers them or in repeating part of what is said in that email (the one from Misha in this case) to make it clear what you're answering/responding to. It's how I try to reply to things anyway, whether that's deemed as professional or not. It also seems to lack formality in places for a business person to business person (not within the same company) email. I might over reply to stuff but I do so to avoid confusion, like what has happened here. If I was replying to Misha, he'd have an essay to read but at least he wouldn't be guessing what is meant by a sentence. Example email following replying to the second half of Misha's email after the links to I presume the videos; 'Unfortunately we're unable to extend the contract of the RS6 due to ...xxx... ((for example) Given the circumstances we've been tasked with getting any outstanding test cars back on completion of ongoing contracts so that we can focus attention elsewhere). I'm sorry to hear that your personal car was damaged but we cannot start another contract with you for another test vehicle at this time, even for an A6 Allroad or (name other test vehicle they have that would be more suitable for Misha's needs, (effectively 'selling' future possibilities, cars Misha might not know they have available in their fleet) that could be more suitable for your current needs when accessing these villages. I'm glad you've got another option where we weren't able to provide. We hope we can resume sharing test cars with you soon, circumstances permitting. Despite the unique circumstances unfortunately auctioning off this test car isn't a possibility but we appreciate the suggestion. We would prefer the focus to be on the fundraiser you've mentioned. If you have the facilities to clean the RS6 before returning it it would be greatly appreciated. Test cars will be going into storage for the time being and the vehicle being washed before returning would make this process quicker for us.' I don't know if that reads professionally enough but I hope it's good enough to show how I'd try to do it if I was dropped into the position with no experience in PR or these types of communications between businesses.

The passive aggressive nature (I’m being kind) of their communication is just to much of a nail to hang them selves on.
