They are not trying to make it seem as realistic as possible, they are representing the harsh reality of their hypothetical situation.

Or just don't cut yourself? Sorry. I understand or understood why they demonstrated this. It's been a survival technique used for a long time, and it works even though it's extremely painful, both during and after. For Dave to demonstrate this, it showed that he has some incredibly strong will and well he said that he has a high tolerance for pain. I'd have to say he has an unbelievably high tolerance for pain, wow!

Again I'm sorry that happened to you. Dehydration is brutal. With what happened to me I can somewhat understand what you went through. Dave and Cody always gave little bits of advice about how to combat Dehydration. Those little survival tips made this show so much better.
