An idea for you for another video would be how to distribute objects on particular faces using Geo Nodes, i was looking for it and actually there is no certain video about this in the internet, only found it in Andrew's tutorial, but it's not the topic of his whole tutorial, so you won't find his tut with those keywords. Thank you for this lovely tutorial. I haven't gotten around to exploring geometry nodes yet, so this will make a nice entry into learning how they work. A couple of questions: Will geometry nodes (GN) eventually replace particle systems for instancing/scattering? Aside from the obvious benefit of using a nodes based system for scattering, are there other benefits to using GN over the particle system? It looks like maybe it is easier to get expected results. Does it provide any performance benefits? Thanks.

Can you prioritize which of the object from the collection to pick from when placing items on the plane? In other words, can you let the node editor pick more grass clumps than rocks, for istance every 4 clumps picking one of the rock? Or the easiest way to achieve that is to duplicate the nodes and make one controlling only grass and the other cotrolling only rocks?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 роки тому
Good question. As far as I know you can't do that. So I would just add more grass objects in the collection, to get that effect. The other thing you could do, is add multiple instances on the same plane. So add one instance for the grass, and another one for the rocks. Then just change the amounts to whatever you want.

Subdivision surface could be a reason? like you are adding way too much of that. Other thing that you can do is decrease the size of the object you are trying to spread before zooming in. Main thing is before zooming in or spreading the trees lower their counts.

how to import this plane with grass in unity as a terrain?
@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt 2 роки тому
You will need to apply the geometry nodes data into actual mesh data. Do to that, I found a post on Blender artists where they say how to do it: blenderartists.org/t/geometry-nodes-convert-scattered-geometries-to-mesh/1287642 From the post: Select the object that has the GN modifier on it and do a Object → Apply → Make Instances Real. As usual with that operator, the newly created objects will be linked duplicates, so if you need them to be fully unique, you’ll then need to do Object → Relations → Make Single User → Object & Data.
