The front left of the van started to sound like an airplane going down the road. Or like a lifted truck with huge mud tires. I could feel the vibration from the failed bearing. While it seems straightforward, I've heard horror stories of axles getting stubbornly stuck to the hub, requiring things like a 20-ton shop press and acetylene torches. With a high-mileage Vermont minivan on my hands, I'm praying for a smooth removal process. Follow along to see if this repair turns out to be a breeze or a battle!

Good to see your text Paul! God is good! He carried me through these latest challenges with my neck pain, and there were times man... whew... on my knees looking for patience. And He gave it to me. Over and over again. Pain shapes character. I've aged more in the last 8 months than I have in 10 years. But my soul is alive and well. So thankful to be using my hands again. Praying that you find the kind of joy that lasts forever in Christ, my friend! God bless you.

Been thinking about doing this next, so thank you so much for the guide! My 04 Grand Caravan is at 160k and still rolling thanks to upgrades with the helpful skills of UKposts teachers like yourself. Where to find a hub puller that fits? 😂 Glad your alternative worked. Love your videos ❤

What an amazing library of knowledge-access we have on youtube. And thank you so much for the on-going encouragement. Us minivan folk need to stick together! 😎

I tried the bolt first but I didn't have grade 8's. Mine were rusted. They must use the cheapest Chinese steel they can find because they did not want to budge. I've now done all 4 wheels and I was trying to save somebody the crap I went through-just like you're doing
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 13 днів тому
I read some guys story about how he ended up buying a 20 ton press just to remove the axle from the hub. Seems extreme but sometimes you refuse to lose lol I’m glad this went well. The bolt has saved me many times (often not grade 8) and works well for me 👍

Just out of curiosity, did you ever have to replace the other rocker arms and lifters? I know you only had 1 bad one.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 13 днів тому
So far so good!! But later I did have to pull the intake off again to replace the oil cooler.

@@05fordvan Sadly no.... I spent the last year (almost) with a serious injury to my neck. I fixed the van but I was incapable of making videos. Too much pain. I was in a rough place.

Great video. I have a 2016. Did you ever change the spark plugs? I looked on your channel and couldn't find any videos about it.

Thank you 🙏 I did change plugs when I had to fix a knocking rocker arm. Hope it helps :) ukposts.info/have/v-deo/f2R3qXdneX5104E.htmlsi=4kaUcVs3B-FP8FUo

Don't pound on it. Knock out a wheel stud and use a steering wheel puller through the hole
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 13 днів тому
I understand that method works. But the bolt method is so much easier! No stud removal. Turning the nut adds a little force then a few hammer impacts and it comes right off. The end result speaks for itself.
@bobsnyder166
@bobsnyder166 13 днів тому
@@sstressfl #1 You don't need to reuse the studs so knocking them out is a no brainer #2 you don't need to find the correct size nut and bolt (finding the right combination was a chore) #3 You have the benefit of fine threads and a bearing of sorts on the end of the puller to make your life easier
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 13 днів тому
@@bobsnyder166 I can see that! I happen to have a new grade 8 the right size sitting on my work shelf. But I did not have a proper puller to use. The bolt has been a good cheap convenient tool.
