What size crows foot did you use?

I am in the process of installing one of these. This video has been very helpful. How has your unit been performing?

It’s been great! No leak, low energy consumption and having central air is amazing. No more rattling window units.

I did have my first major failure. One of the 20 amp slow blow fuses tripped which resulted in just the fan blowing air instead of heating. I have seen the amperage rise to the 20 amp level, but typically 16 amps are drawn. so maybe it needs a bigger fuse in 2 ton mode. This happened after I returned home from work and was trying to raise the temperature 10 degrees which operated the unit for hours to get there. It can only heat about 4 degrees every hour. So, it isn't very quick for heating your house if you turn it down during the day.

I was looking at the 3 ton and it needs a 50 Amp breaker +27 Amp for heat kit + 15 Amp Air Handler. With a 100 Amp panels seems impossible with the extreme heat. Was that the case with you.

I do have a 200 amp panel. I'm not sure how all those amps add up since certainly the amps from all the breakers is more than 200. I suppose they count on you not using them all at the same time?

I just installed a 3 ton universal. I noticed it pulls 0.7 amps even when off!! This amounts to $180 a year in wasted energy. Do you know what your current draw is to the outdoor unit when off? Thanks
@franklinthu6 місяців тому
I have an ammeter attached to my circuit and it says idle draw is only .7 - 1.2 watts, not .7 amps. Are you sure you measured correctly with the correct units?
@mtbphil1686 місяців тому
Yes, it was amps. I measured it with a handheld and I also have a split core current sensor that I monitor continuously with the Emporia energy system. One other owner said they measured 0.6 amps. I wish I was getting your reading!
@franklinyoutubehu23495 місяців тому
My mistake, I was measuring when I had a blown fuse. The actual idle draw is .6 amps or about 13 watts.

Using a calculator I found online, at 13w running 24 hrs 365 days = 113.88 kwh and at an average electricity rate of .13/kwh, the cost is only $14.80 and not $180 for the year.

Thanks for checking again. Power = Volts * Amps so 0.6 amps at 240 volts is 144 watts.

your condenser should still be running when below 32F, why do you have it set that way??? thats not right,, unless i missunderstood you stating something..?
@franklinthu4 місяці тому
The 32 degree setting is mostly due to inspection requirements. I really should set it to 10 degrees
@karmendimas52744 місяці тому
you should have it set for 0F,,, since this system is 100% efficient down to -5 F , i had the same system installed, and working excellent, was 28F a few days ago, and i checked the temp of the air coming out of the register and read 142F very impressed, i also do not have a heat strip installed, there is no need for it.. hope yours is working out well..@@franklinthu

Better hope you don’t have to remove the blower motor
