Make your own very powerful saturn v moon model rocket powered by four co2 cartridges. This rocket is model rocket designed to look similar to the Nasa Saturn V moon rocket from 1969. I show you how I built it out of xps foam insulation and some other common materials.

Great concept. A few more tweaks and weight in the nose and it'll fly better. I used to have a space shuttle model that would launch using those Estes rocket engines, had a lot of fun with it till I launched it one day and wind carried it out to the highway where it got hit by a semi-truck and poof it was gone LOL. Something like this would be a good father/son shop time experience for many I think. I have a CO2 bicycle tire inflator, they pack quite the power...enough to fully inflate both tires on my bicycle.

Nice try. As an advice I'd recommend balsa wood for the wings. #3 wings will work fine. Make them a bit taller so their base so they are standing out a bit further. Light weight and thin so it does not have so much resistance and does not make it go in all directions instead of straight up. Also I should make the tube some what longer. Just a straight cilindrical one with pointy head will do fine.

pro tip from airsoft ,Co2 gas blow back airsoft guns lose pressure in winter due to the fact that Co2 loses pressure in colder environments ,do this same test in the dead of summer and the results will be way better.

Hi Drew. I'd like to share why this rocket design tumbles out of control rather than fly in a straight trajectory. It has to do with the center of gravity and center of pressure. The way that this rocket is designed, the CG is behind the CP, which causes the rocket to want to spin around the CG as it is propelled. For a rocket to be stable, the CG should be in front of the CP by a distance larger than the diameter of the body at its largest diameter. The simplest way to move the CG forward is to add weight to the nose cone. The simplest way to move the CP backward is to have fins with larger surface area. Besides these recommendations, I'd suggest using a single CO2 cartridge to start with, and then experiment with clusters of two and three. Best wishes, John.

As everyone is saying - you need some nose weight. Just adding some modelling clay might be enough. You could probably cut quite a bit of weight by only having the engine mount and nose foam, and using cardboard body tubes. But I do get that you were going for the aesthetic look and foam would make it practically indestructible! Nice build!
@criollocustoms

You can improve max. altitude by adding some nose weight. Notice that the center of gravity is too close to the tail fins. You can see it when landing, vehicle touches the ground with it's tail, when its soposed to fall nose diveing. Nice experiment.

Nice build, I made a water rocket launcher with the same amount of fun factor, yet (as suggested before) look into COG and Pont of attack for wind resistance of your build, The COG should be ahead of the wind resistance attack point to fly straight (but then It‘ll land nose first, maybe this isn‘t too much appreciated…)

With conventional model rockets we always attempt to have the center of gravity at least one body diameter in front of the center of pressure. You need nose weight or bigger fins.

trim your fins to be more aerodynamic and give one side of each fin just a bit more girth. You want the rocket to spin to take advantage of centripetal force

I built a similar rocket using an aluminum tube with a "dip tube" held 1/4" away from the inside of the tip cone, 1/2-filled with liquid propane and held against a rubber seal with a yoke, which was attached to a "launch" string. It had 3 aluminum fins heliarced to the base and went up about a mile, but DON'T try this, because radar picks it up as a possible weapon.
