Hi Colin, did you make sure you downloaded the correct version? It is DJI assistant 2 for consumer drones otherwise it won't work

THANK YOU! This video fixed my problem - I didn't know about the DJI assistant 2 software which I installed and used to correctly update the firmware on my DJI Mini 2. I had the red blinking status light and solid battery LED's #1 and 4. I followed the normal firmware process in that program and luckily didn't need to do the hack mentioned in this video. But I didn't even know about the assistant software until watching this video, so thank you again!

Regardless of whether people are having issues, its a really useful tip on how to downgrade / update firmware using the DJI assistant. I'd updated and not noticed any issues however I've not done anything more than a few hundred metres since updating - so out of interest I've tried to downgrade just to see how simple it was. Thanks for the video - very informative.

Really useful info. Much appreciated. Haven't flown much at all with latest firmware, and when I did, it wasn't more than some 300' distance from home spot, plus it was out in countryside away from any possible transmission reception interference.

I can tell the community, I've NEVER had any issues with loss of connection, before and after updating, although when flying distances of 4 to 5 km with my MINI2 ! And that in a 'not easy' surrounding in Switzerlands difficult and mountaineous countryside. So I wish you the same: easy droning with this really capable little monster 👌

As a newby flier, 70 plus, I've always updated as per the dji fly app instructions. So far so good. Haven't yet had any issues but haven't yet flown it a great distance, too scared to lose it at the moment. Great videos like this aid the likes of me in understanding this great little drone. Would appreciate a video how to have the flight details recorded on the video so I can learn better from my flights. I'm on Android and a PC. Thanks again Gavin, glad I subscribed.

Thanks very much for posting this. Having suffered severe connection issues since upgrading to V01.03.0000 my next step in trying to fix it was to wind back the firmware, but I didn't know how. I got excited once I saw your video and followed your advice straight away, confident that I would be back to flying successfully. However, the connection issues remain, aaarrrggghhh! Back to the drawing board for me, but thanks again for this very useful info.

Thanks again for this video. I noticed my drone seemed to be playing up , with more glitches since the latest update, so have just rolled back to previous version. I just got to 100% transmitted when my laptop crashed for some unknown, so lucky it all worked when restarted my drone. A few second earlier, it may have been a different story, so next time i do something like this , i will use my desktop which hopefully wont crash on me .

Great video... what a life saver. I use Linux so I tried the Assistant app using wine🍷 but I couldn't connect to the drone. I ended up using a Virtual Box with Win 10. Enabling usb on vbox can be tricky too. But it worked!

@@GAVINHR Hi Gavin, haven't been on PC much but been watching videos on smart TV, sadly can't comment or "Like", made up for it now. I did a test flight this morning and all seems well except when the gimbal is pointing down there was a few times when it "kicked" and it was quite noticeable. Hopefully DJI will get another update sorted to fix the previous one. Then we will need another to fix that one, and so on and so on.............................. Just a quick question, do you format the card in your PC or the drone?

Just tried the hack on a MacBook and it worked there too, maybe even simpler to do as I used the text editor Emacs to change the ini and no fiddling with permissions was required, (I think) though a terminal text window did appear needed a password authorisation but I am not sure if that was in connection with installing the Assistant or the change to the ini, Either way I now see updates etc. etc..

Nice find. It will be interesting to see if the downgrade works better for those having issues. I've not had any, so far, myself. Just a fiy, you can run notepad as admin to edit that .ini file, to save having to change the file permissions.

Hi Gavin, I found the same in distance and video feed. My distance dropped by half with the new F/W version. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought that DJI had reduced its RF Power capability. I took your lead and figured how to do the mod for DJI Assistant 2 on Mac IOS. All good now. Right Click DJI Assist 2 to 'Show Package Contents' Contents\MocOS\defaultsettings.ini = change 'upgrade_enable=0' to '1'. Enjoy.

Good info and we'll done on finding/working out the workaround.👍 The only fly in the ointment (there's always one) is, this doesn't downgrade the firmware in the remote. So, if they have altered anything ocusync wise within the RC you can't roll that back. 😢

You can actually downgrade firmware on the controller also using this software it was only the mini 2 firmware they didn't allow for some strange reason

Great stuff, thanks! The rollback is only for the drone so just wondering about potential compatibility issues with the transmitter and Fly app? I guess it won’t be possible to rollback to being able to switch charging on phones/tablets on/off to rule out interference from always on charging. Also great to rollback firmware while the files remain on DJI’s server :)

From my knowledge there was no firmware update to the controller so no problems expected and can be left on the current version. Also the DJI fly app came after the firmware update so again should be no issues with 1.4.4. :) if you could find an older APK for that app version you could of course bring it back

Good points ;) I wonder if anyone has measured the effective radiated power from the antennas before and after the recent upgrade. This would show if power has actually been reduced. If it hasn’t interference from the phone charging circuit could be the issue. I expect there will be zero db gain from the antennas so should be around DJI’s specified output power, whatever that is.

Hi Gav, thanks again for this video and answering my previous question. I have another question. I am now on version 1.4.8 (1120- official). This version for me is terrible, I have lost range, now average around 400 metres. I have also experienced the app dropping out and closing. I also had a weird thing where my height and range froze even though I had full control so I landed reset everything and then it was fine. As I have these issues I am worried about flying and want to wind my firmware back. My questions are what is the best most stable version to go back to?? Also on my last update it updated all my batteries to the latest firmware so do I need to rewind the firmware on each battery? Is that possible? Any advice appreciated Gav. Thanks Peter.

Great video Gavin...I updated fly app version and firmware recently on my mini 2 and since doing that quick transfer no longer works and there is no exposure lock in video mode, but there is in photo mode, when I tap the screen...Iam using a Samsung A52 phone...Everything worked perfectly before I updated...I have been in touch with DJI and they said I could send it back to them for investigation....Could you offer any advice on these issues...would going back to previous firmware as you explained possibly fix this...or is it likely to be the fly app version...where the problem lies?....Is it possible to go back to an older fly app version as well as firmware update?...Thankyou

The silly thing is, on the video on question Gary at around 3:22 I think it was you can see the video lag clear as day and immediately just after and they switch to camera feed both times to hide it.

As of this writing after experienced a lot of issues with the new update and reading lots of comments that the culprit is the .8 update, I wanted to downgrade to 1.4.4. Thanks for this tutorial/hack. Been looking for this so badly. 🙏

After getting my mini 2 back from Dji (after paying for repairs that didnt need doing when I sent it in for range issues) I paid for the care refresh. I was just wondering if I downgrage firmware will that still be valid? I still cant get past 1000mtr range so will be dowgrading as it appeared to make a difference on the one I sent in, not much but some. I dont want to invalidate care refresh:( or send it back in and have them tell me it has damage again and will cost x-amount to get it back. Thanks Gavin for a great informative site:)

My Mini 2 was showing my firmware as N/A. I contacted DJI support and they explained where I had to change the "0" to a "1" actually in the spot you indicated in your video. However there were two "0"s that I changed to "1"s as per DJI. If it was not for your video I would have been stuck. Problem sorted GREAT VIDEO!! I was so frustrated prior to watching your video I nearly sent my Mini 2 back to DJI for them to deal with it. I have an additional question prior to my firmware going to N/A within the DJI Fly app I could start my motors in low light conditions, now I cant. That is unless I provide a light source using a flashlight in dark conditions and shine it at the drone. I take it one of the sensors is picking up that light. I recall clicking on something in the app to permit the motors to start in low light months ago. Is there a way to reset it to enable the motors to start in low light conditions?

Hi and thanks for this video! I notice today that when I have RTH settings in 56m and flying 88m or in any other height the drone is comming home in this case 88m, not in 56m. Tried several times but not taking the RHT hight command . I tryed with the mavic mini too and same problem. Never before happening this. Take care!

Hi there! That is absolutely correct you maybe will not of noticed it. When you click RTH it will either raise up to the RTH height or if it's already higher it will stay at that altitude. This is to avoid a potential crash if you are flying above the RTH set height. It assumes that you are above the tallest obstacle at your current height say 88m. It's a great safety feature and completely normal 😊

Downgraded today, flew at local beach to just over 1,000m with very little signal loss though did have some slight camera jitter, Upgraded back to most recent and got to just over 500m and lost signal, managed to get back ok but looks to me like newest upgrade needs looking at as some of us ARE getting problems:(. I have had problems since the recent upgrade and some thought it was just something I was doing wrong but your help in up/downgrading has given me something to work with. love the video but I need more help. I have been following what to do step by step but when it ask me to conect the drone nothing happens on the computer just continue to say conect drone. now when I plugged the drone into computer, the computer beeps but the screen continue to say conect drone. is there a software I need so my computer can recognize the drone. need help going on vacation to Greece on the 16th and my quick shot not working from last update 1.6.4 I need 1.5.10 back

Hi there - it is only the mini 2 where you need to "modify" the DJI assistant, the firmware update / rollback function is already there for other drones therefore this is all ok. Thanks for watching

Hi there, I would still use the firmware rollback only if you are having issues, not all people are experiencing this, but yes the battery firmware update comes as a package with the drone firmware therefore upgrading the firmware doing the batteries then rolling back the drone FW will leave the batteries doing as they should. There is no other way to do the batteries I am afraid

Thank you for this very informative video Gavin. Just a random question hoping for some advice. Im using my mini 2 for over a month now with my Redmi Note 5. Then just updated to 1.4.4 and flew a couple of times with no issues. But suddenly after a week my cellphone wont connect to RC. The charging is working but fluctuating. Tried to other moblie device (but not compatible) just to see if it charges and it does and it was stable. Do you think it rules out the cable being defective? Any thoughts on this?

If it's intermittent and stopping and starting I think the easiest option would be to try the cable yes to be honest. If it wasn't working at all then I would suggest a device issue

Yes indeed as far as I was aware personally there was no update to the controller. So it should just be a drone update

Hi Marc, no only the drone fw needs rolling back nothing else 🙂 the issue was primarily with the mini 2 so I've not tried the SE but you shouldn't really have a need to do so on that drone. Hope that helps

What error are you getting ? This is the most basic issue but are you plugging the right cable into your phone? That's a mistake lots make

Gavin, Thank you for the quick response. I am connected with the cable - it just will not link.... I'll try again and send a screen shot. It says aircraft not connected to RC, when I try to re-pair - it goes through the process and than an error saying re-pairiing unsuccessful... The Blue light flashes and goes steady - but no pairing. Additionally I also fail Flight Mode switching process. I removed the DJI Fly app and re-installed couple of times.- I have an OnePlus 6t mobile/ As a result of the above - I did not reach the stage where I can look through the drone's parameters to see software / firmware revisions and all the other parameters. Kind of frustrating.....

Thanks a lot for thew great Tutorial Gavin! I had continuous random disconnections with my Mini 2 (also at 5-10 meters distance), so I've decided to downgrade to previous firmware and I hope this will solve my frustrating problem). I've just finished the procedure with DJI assistant using my mac (I've modified "defaultsettings" file in the Mac app folder, same procedure as Windows). I have just one question: considering that with the latest firmware (01.03.0000) also batteries received an update, what happens with them with a downgrade to firmware version 01.02.0300)? I have Fly more combo version, so 3 batteries with latest firmware with intelligent discharge. Should I have to flash older firmware 3 times (every time with a different battery, or should I forget about this aspect? I've also connected and checked remote controller for a possible downgrade to previous version, but DJI Assistant showed only the latest firmware version (04.11.0016) and no possible to do any downgrade. Any further comment? Should I fly safely now or I risk anything considering the above mentioned procedures performed? Once again thanks for the wonderful job and for your suggestions!!!

Nothing happens Andrea! The batteries stay the same and they still auto discharge. Controller firmware is totally fine, maybe if you are on Android use 1.4.8 ( 1185 )

I'll do a fly test tomorrow (I hope weather will be sunny and without wind) and will see if these disconnections will be finally solved. Fingers crossed as at the moment I'm using my Mini 2 as a paperweight as I'm scared to fly unsafely losing commands randomly (especially in urban scenarios). I'll let you know soon the outcome.

Great info. I am one of the ones who suspect there might be a range issue after the latest update. ( can't get by 250m range at 100m without loss of signal and RTH on the exact flight route as I have used loads of times without any issues on previous firmware ) Will give it another week and if things still look iffy with the latest firmware I will downgrade using you rinstructions

Everyone me included has this issue with Mini and MIni 2 as you say the Mini CE works fine. I reported this issue with DJI on the release of the mini. They never responded or actioned.

good day... my mini 2 has a problem with signal from RC to Aircraft... if my frequency setting is in Dual Mode is always disconnected my RC to Aircraft since the latest update done. how to downgrade my firmware? already done with your TUT but the DJI Assistant 2 only show the CURRENT version of the firmware only... hoping for your advice. Do you know whatever firmware version is needed to keep the cc/fcc hack from Beyond active. Because after the update they dissabled the Fcc mode so you still are able to set distance to unlimited. But the output power is not Fcc.....
