@@dhairyashah982 no problem; I''m just saying that he is a baseline player (excellent at that) and if he were born a couple decades earlier, he might not have had that much success with the old racket technology. It's nice that he's adapting his game to have more options now, but one should wonder what took him so long...
@paragshedbale
@paragshedbale 2 роки тому
@@my8osprive You cant copmare a particular style of play from that era to one in this era of tennis. Technology has changed and so has playing technique. Slower courts, heavier balls, larger racket heads. Heavy top spin. A player relying on net game in today's tennis would stand as much of a chance as a chewing gum against titanium dentures. However, what was commendable in the Paris Masters was, Djoker realised how far back Med was standing to recieve and dashed to the net to pounce on the return a lot often. Even though that is not his natural game. And he did that successfully. Even after knowing that the strategy didnt work particularly well in the USO final. Thats a great combination of willingness to learn, courage, confidence, adaptability and technique and thats what separates players from champions and champions from the GOAT.

Novak's elasticity and flexibility is a huge reason why he's able to return so many balls. I think the younger generations have developed a power tennis game that they're all trying to hit past their opponents all the time. But a great defensive game would always keep you in a match. Not all points have to be winners, an unforced error is worth the same.

totally agree! So often on these comments sections you see people going on about 'pushers' and not aggressive enough etc. Even commentators do it. aside: Recently was conversing with someone over the merits of running down shots that were almost unplayable.....well Novak would not be where he is if he didn't play upwards of 95% of these unplayable returns....yes he has an innate ability to twist/stretch his body, but he sees the possibility in the impossibility, and is why he is arguably the greatest player of his generation. And yes Rublev meet the sheriff.

Djokovic is technically superior in front of the net, the serve is also progressing, the groundstroke is also ok, he just likes to warm up slowly, especially if the first serve doesn't work (this is Djokovic's main problem). If the first serve goes normally, it will be difficult for other players to beat Djokovic, the main challengers will still be Medvedev and Zverev, if you meet these two, it's just that Djokovic is mentally prepared and works hard in a groundstroke match. For Ruud Vs Norrie, Ruud's hard serve saved him from defeat, and he deserves to advance to the semifinals compared to Rublev or Norrie. .

Djokovic's ability to bounce back and win every single match so far to secure the year end No 1 ranking, win the record 37th Masters 1000 event and keep winning at the ATP tour finals after experiencing one of the most heartbreaking losses throughout his career at the US Open, and now to play totally unfazed like nothing ever happened. Rublev, Rublev, Rublev ..... The most one-dimensional player to play tennis. Did you really expect to beat Djokovic with such a flat style of play? No variant, just one way, hitting the ball hard. If with that style they intend to bring Djokovic down from the top, I no longer see so far that the Serbian earns 30 GS or more. This Next Gen tennis very little, except for a few exceptions such as Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas and Berreteni, the others? Puff, pure ATP 250/500 player. Hold on the only representative of the Big 3, Novak who at 34 has better physical and mental condition than most of the deplorable "Next Gen". Vamos Rafa!!!

@@gamingwithglasses4544 Right now it's on point, but let's see him do it longer than two stretches and not disappear through dirt and grass season. It only seems like it because Novak is always in it at any part of the calendar while Medvedev is only after Wimbledon besides making A.O which is pretty much the same as end of season again because it's hard court. He's still not even close to the big 3. At least we have a true new rivalry though and that's awesome because they clearly are the two best by a wide margin right now. While the Thiem/Nadal one fizzled out unfortunately.

Hang in there and become a Djoker fan - he's not only a phenomenal tennis player but a great person. All the players on tour have great respect for him. In all my years of watching tennis, I've never once seen Federer acknowledge an opponent's brilliance on court, but Djoker routinely claps in appreciation for a great shot and always warmly congratulates players at the net when he loses. Which is rare, mind you. Anyhow, just a friendly msg to a fellow tennis fan - not trying to stir things up:)

There is a flip side to this also. Federer and Nadal do look like superheroes even during practice, and one is constantly amazed how powerful and skillful their shots are. Djokovic looks so ordinary in comparison - a good high school player might be tempted into thinking that with a bit of practice Novak could be beaten. But the greatest mystery of all - how is this ordinary looking player so amazing that he is now the GOAT frontrunner? Thats the magic, and the mystery of Novak.
