I was at the Avs game in Denver a couple weeks back when they got shut out vs the Jets, I was not expecting this playoff turn out. First game live in Denver, drove all the way from Canada, and was thoroughly disappointed at the 0-7 result.

Oof, me too. I've probably been to 100 Avs games in my life including several awful games in 2016 and that 0-7 game a few weeks ago was the first time I've ever left a game early because they were playing poorly and I was very worried the Jets would wreck the Avs. On the upside, leaving early meant I got to watch the full DU game, so that's a silver lining.

I don't understand why these certain people keep hyper focusing on what everyone thinks of Georgiev, while seemingly not even caring to talk about the games, and winning. What is the fixation on defending him about? I have nothing personal against him, but there is no way to defend the way he was playing before. There's no reason to defend it. And you don't get to retroactively refute someone's opinion, by what a player does in the present, as opposed to the past. He's playing well now, and I'm super happy about it. Why would anyone feel anything but happy about it, unless they just thought he was a terrible person and wanted him gone? People keep saying "the defense is playing better now". Yeah, I guess it's better, but it also only gave up 23 shots in game 1. "Oh, but there were high danger chances!" Yeah... There always are, and you'd prefer it if they didn't nearly all end up in the back of your net. That's the whole point. Right now, he's doing his job exactly the way you'd hope he would. I'm proud of the mental fortitude he has shown in getting off the deck from game 1 and getting the job done. On the other end you have a guy who's giving up 5 goals every game, and that's not good, but he's also facing WAY more shots, and a team that has a far greater number of skilled players than the Jets do. Who worries you on that team outside of Connor and Scheifele? That's a fanbase that can blame their defense if they want to.

AJ,& Eric are right.Hellunbuck hasn't been himself but that game could've been 3-0 after 10 minutes. Some of it is him of course but most of it is his team is giving him no help...they've been significantly outplayed in every game-maybe most in game 1 actually.But even if you think he's been awful-you just can't do that.Same if say Jokic or Jamal Murray...or Makar,Mckinnon or Rantanen have 2 or 3 bad games-you dont scratch them or put em on the 3rd pair or 4th line. I get it's different with forward,& dmen skaters -they all play.And basketball isn't an exact comparison either. But ya don't bench Mahomes if he has a lousy playoff game but ya still win.Thats the height of desperation,unfair to the best goalie on earth,& you could lose the team. Some of us have been saying all year that WPGs blueline isn't great beyond Morrisey,& think that's the biggest thing we are seeing. They are being exposed,& Hellunbuck helped them overachieve this season. Morrisey is ALMOST on Makars level but they don't remotely have a Toewes,& Girard,Manson,& Walker are significantly better 3-5. Even JJ is a pretty good #6 with Cup experience. WPG has Pionk at #3 or #4...nuff said. Also the lack of elite superstar forwards on WPG.They have great depth in theory-though you'd never know it as the Avs depth is dominating.But WPG has a lot of good to very good forwards but nobody on McKinnon, Rantanen or maybe even Nukes level,& Lehkonen has probably been the best all around forward in the series. And at the end of the regular season I was looking dumb saying since the deadline that Middlestadt is a better play than Monahan at this stage of their careers. Not in the future or past but right now.That foolish looking take is starting to look smarter,& smarter all the time.Middlestadt has been great,& Monahan looks like an old,& slow ghost so far. For full disclosure I picked WPG in 7-not cuz I thought they were better-I didn't.But home ice,Drouins injury,& most of all-I didn't trust Giorgiev or our rookie goalie who's played like 10 NHL games vs Hellunbuck. It is not over-but I did see major advantages for the Avs going in,& that's why I knew the Avs wouldn't get smoked-like so many predicted they would-unless the goaltending was just beyond awful.

The people who were worried about getting smoked, forget that this team goes through stretches of just looking disinterested. This is the same Avs team that went a combined 8-2 against Dallas, Vancouver and Edmonton. Did people really not think the Avs could beat the Jets? It seemed like every time the Avs played the Jets, they were right in the middle of a slump. The first two times they played and lost to the Jets, that was a stretch where they lost 7 of 11 games, including losses to Arizona and Anaheim. Pretty rough. The final time they played the Jets in the regular season, that was in a stretch of losing 7 of 10, including losses to Montreal and Columbus, where they only scored 1 goal in each game. This particular stretch immediately followed a 9 game winning streak. The Avs lost another game 7-0 earlier in the year, to Vegas. The next time they played that team, the Avs won 3-0. What's the pattern? They were a Jekyll and Hyde team all year (though, thankfully, they were Dr. Jekyll more often), and the Jets caught them as Mr. Hyde, every time. It seems like they just got bored at times and lost their focus and created bad habits that they struggled to break. I don't know for sure what it was, but It was frustrating when it would happen... But it's the playoffs now. These guys aren't bored, or distracted, or whatever the problem was. And when this team is healthy, engaged, and especially when it also gets good goaltending, it is the best team in the league, in my opinion. While I wasn't worried about getting smoked like some were, I will absolutely admit that I didn't know if we would actually win the series, and that is because of goaltending. The series is not over yet, but if Georgiev keeps it up, I like our chances of not only winning the series, but winning another cup.

@@eddiestanford7308 i felt very similar,& thought going all in...except at goalie,& not getting a veteran, backup #2 or #3 goalie just in case might bite us-but hasn't yet...knock on wood.
