I've seen a bunch of great creators playing "Overrated Underrated", so I thought I'd give it a try but with a medical twist. My producer, Sam, compiled a list of medical terms (and some non medical, just for fun) and challenged me to give my hottest takes right off the cuff. I touched on some really juicy subjects, like condoms, bariatric surgery, GOOP, Gwenyth Paltrow, fevers, vitamin d supplements, Doctor Oz, sunscreen, Liver King, electrolytes, the appendix, ice cream, MrBeast, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor, blue light glasses, bitcoin, TikTok, 5-minute crafts, jaw trainers, impossible burgers and beyond meat, step counters, nurses, stretching, Elden Ring, Elon Musk, Dhar Mann, green tea, tesla, keto diets, cold showers, PCOS, and chest compressions, chest compressions, chest compressions! Where am I wrong? Let me know down below.
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

Same goes for every other hospital worker, too. Lab staff (phlebots and techs), radiology techs, respiratory therapists, paramedics/EMTs, maintenance crew, housekeeping, registration, among so many more positions. When someone thinks of hospital workers, they first think of doctors and nurses because they're in the front line, but there's so many more people who make the whole system run well that are overlooked. That's not to take away from either doctors or nurses, though. Mad respect to them for the stuff they have to deal with.

I was diagnosed at 18y. But no one did anything till I was 26. Had all the classic symptoms: very irregular periods with a lot of bleeding and horrible cramps, overweight, facial hair, cystic acne, ovarian cysts, insulin resistance/pre diabetic. Went to an endocrinologist at 26y and was put on: birth control, Spironolactone, thyroid medicine, and Metformin. Within three months, the cystic acne was gone, started losing weight and had more energy, and my sugars were amazing. Because I started feeling better about myself, I started taking better care of myself: started exercising more and got laser hair removal done. I feel that Spironolactone and birth control should be a go to for women with PCOS esp if their symptoms warrant it: severe acne and irregular/abnormal periods in the presence of PCOS should be treated and not ignored. I have scars from the acne and there were times my hemoglobin was low because of the excessive bleeding on my periods. PCOS is real and it can be treated, but most women don't know that. Go to an endocrinologist, if you can. Having a period twice a month is not normal. There was a time I got off birth control and was doing well for two years and and then it went bad. Ended up having a period every 3 weeks for 3 weeks at a time. I didn't want to go back on oral bc because it was affecting my BP. So I tried the Nexplanon (little rod that has hormones that is inserted in your arm and lasts for 3 years), bc patch, IUD, even the IUD and the patch together. But nothing worked and I had to go back on the oral bc. If you're not seeing a doctor who is trying to treat your abnormal periods, you need to find a new doctor. A period every 15 days isn't good.

"Thank your nurses." YES!!! I've had a few hospital stays for some pretty serious cardio conditions, and no matter how uncomfortable the prescribed regimen of care is, it always makes it better for me when I not only thank the nurses but also remind the nurses of the importance of their work in saving and improving lives. I also recommend thanking the janitorial staff who clean your hospital room daily, and reminding them that they're an essential contributor to everyone who is treated in the hospital, as you have a much better chance of getting better in a clean room, both physically by removing unsanitary waste from the room, and psychologically by creating an environment that fosters a positive mindset conducive to healing.

To the stretching pulled muscles, THANK YOU!! This advice also goes for stuff like tendonitis and such. I had a cross country coach in high school that his solve for every problem was to stretch and ice. Not only did we all end up going to the doctor against the advice of the trainers, they got mad that we didn't trust them and injuries kept getting worse under their advice.

I think the big issue for most people is cold stretching. You want to get blood moving through your muscles before you stretch them. Training for greater flexibility is a different beast entirely. Maintaining your strength through a greater range of motion but it’s also a science unto itself. I was a gymnast when I was young & some of the stretching techniques we used were…questionable.

After the bypass I lost 80ibs and still working on losing more, no more high blood pressure and sleep apnea, so it is very worth it depending on the persons condition.

Yes PCOS is certainly underrated. I didn't get diagnosed with PCOS until late 20s - early 30s. I started my very first menstrual cycle late (around age of 16-17). I wish my parents showed more concern back then when I hadn't started yet, instead of just saying that it runs in the family for the oldest girl to be late with their period.

When I see around myself, 70% of my female friends have pcos and I realised how thankful I have to be. Its totally underrated and a lot of women have problems with pcos (and breast cancer) and men can be very unpleasant about it. But hey, we have to know about their prostate.

PCOS presents in very different ways. The polycystic part of PCOS is generally because of lack of regular ovulation, causing follicle cysts (ovum/eggs) to build up in the ovaries month after month until ovulation. At the same time, the lining of the uterus also does not shed. People with PCOS commonly can go 45 days to a year without a menstrual cycle (some even longer), and they can experience increased hair growth on face, chest, etc, as well as have difficulty losing weight and are often overweight or obese. Sometimes other types of cysts can develop on the ovaries and rupture, which can cause pain, but this can happen even to people who don't have PCOS.

Thank you for saying PCOS is underrated. I was so devastated when I was first diagnosed with PCOS. Unfortunately, I wasn’t diagnosed until after my teen years. I was on the Depo shot, don’t even get me started on that, and had a long road of that clearing out of my system. After I met my wonderful OBGYN, I was diagnosed and later put on birth control for about 14 months. After coming off the pill, I conceived my precious little boy. I was so scared that I would never have children, but I was proven so wrong.

Your point about Nurses always hits home for me. I had an extended stay in hospital due to a serious throat infection when I was 17. My doctor was great, but obviously very busy and always just showed up, did what he needed to do, and then vanished. The people who I actually felt cared for me and made my stay in hospital not only bearable, but actually pretty pleasant, all things considered, were the nursing team. They took care of a lot of the medical stuff, but they also took care of the little things you don't think about. Things like bringing me a snack outside of normal mealtimes, without me asking, because I'd not been very hungry when dinner was served up. Things like chatting with me about their day-to-day lives because I was obviously bored of being in bed all day, so it helped to hear about their day... Those little things meant a whole lot! Nurses are 100% certified heroes in my book.

Appreciate the shoutout for PCOS. It's far more than just a fertility issue - I never plan on becoming pregnant but PCOS still affects my life every day. Energy, mood, weight, hair loss/growth. It's emotionally and physically draining, and doctors' "solutions" are pathetic. There needs to be much more research and awareness about this condition - it's one of the most common problems affecting women but it's so painfully unrecognized, most people have never even heard of it before. I hadn't until I was suffering for years and did enough research to diagnose myself (I did get officially diagnosed btw, but no other doctor had caught it until I went in and said "I think I have PCOS, can you check"). It's horrible and I truly feel like it's at the root of my depression and anxiety and general suffering in life. I wish it would magically disappear.

I then run to get her tylenol 1000mg to calm her fever down because I know when temp reached 105 or above, it can hurt the brain cells. With that been said, do you think I did a good choice to give my mom tylenol or should I waited out for the fever to run it course since you said fever is good for our body? PLease let me know.
