I think you have it right. I'm American with Korean friends and their families. I have noticed the age ranking you mention. It's real. Twice has 2 main unnies, Jihyo (because of her leader status) and Nayeon. You can see them taking their duties towards the younger members. seriously.

I don't know who taught you about respect but what I know same age or not respect will be given. Because they're the same age and not a senior she feels she doesn't have to respect her who taught you that? I got siblings 7 years younger than me, and I have upmost respect for them.

@@DRA25dra i dont think they mean just respecting them as a human being, it's more of the age dynamics. for most asian countries we treat anyone who's older to be more wise and knowledgable, so we treat them like they're someone we can always rely on. as for anyone who's younger, we'd actively try to take care of them and take the "leader" role to guide them since society teaches us that younger people have less experience and therefore are usually not as wise as older people. it's not a matter of respect, but moreso of how we treat people of different age groups. personally even tho im asian i don't agree with this but it's what asian cultures are structured around. it's something drilled into most asian cultures - even i find myself unknowingly treating people that way based on their age, so i actively ask people not to tell me their ages to prevent this from happening.
