I just heard this artist's name from watching an old 1989 MTV show with the Pixies who requested his song, I'm surprised how many hits this video got in such a short time, he must still be popular

I really dug this song then & still do. A great performance by the whole band & the back up babe as Dave called them. Thank you Don.

Grebenshikov looks like an American who came to the USSR

Take a look at the year-end Billboard Hot 100 for 1989. A lot of power ballads, club music, Milli Vanilli… He wasn’t really wrong. Obviously there was good stuff out there, but you had to find it. In terms of where the money was going and the mainstream, he had a point.

Don I’ve got a very obscure question, in the early to mid years of Late Night there was someone with a very distinct, high pitched laugh that was very frequently heard. I’ve finally managed to determine it to be the drummer Steve Jordan’s laugh, but in the mid to late years of the Late Show, (probably around 2000 to his retirement.) There was another very distinct laugh heard on the show. It was lower pitched than Steve’s and came in short bursts. (Basically sound like “Ha!”) Would you happen to know who’s laugh this belonged to? If needed I can supply an example.

I'm Russian and though I'm not his personal fan I can be somehow biased... but after all you for the first time ever get real Soviet rock musician star on air, he speaks pretty well English, he is very charismatic and you just take 1 minute interview asking so common things...Sounds strange to me)

I remember seeing this on Letterman. The following year Germany got back together and the year after that the Soviet Union split up/fell apart into the original countries.

This would have been a hit single, imo. The version on the album did not sound like this.
